After seeing all the great reviews about Al and his work, I decided to give him a call. In the end, due to 2 very valid reasons, he was unable to attend. He did however, spend about an hour on the phone with me to troubleshoot in order to provide information to present to another tech. He wanted me to get the best bank for my buck! I didn't know there still exists such honest SUPER NICE repairmen in the world. I basically had to INSIST I pay Al for diagnosing my dishwasher issue over two days via phone and text messages. He gave us guidance so we were able to fix it ourselves without having a stranger enter our house during the pandemic. He was so patient and never ghosted me. His fees seem to not have responded to inflation for five years - I was shocked they were so reasonable. I am going to recommend Al to everyone I know. Also, don't buy Maytag dishwashers. My mom was cleaning her gas stove and poured water in places that it didn't like because soon the smell of burned plastic and smoke was coming out. After a quick Google Map search of local appliance repairmen, I came across A & M Service, speaking to Al. By listening to happened and asking me the model number he immediately gave me a likely hypothesis as to what happened. Then he recommended a couple of trouble shooting and fixing tips over the PHONE which worked! He says if these fixes don't work, then he'll come out and look for himself, giving me a range in cost estimates. The best part? He only charges a super reasonable flat rate AND he says if there isn't anything he can do once he has a look, he usually doesn't charge! Can you imagine? A repairman who tries to resolve your issues over the phone, charges a flat rate but won't charge if there isn't anything that can't be done??? He says he is here to help and not just make money. I've actually used these guys before when I lived with my sister in Coquitlam as they were literally a few blocks from my house, however, now I live in Burnaby and searched them on Yelp and really wanted to use their service. I just barely made it within their service area, however, the good news is that I am getting a new fridge. When I had the repair done in Coquitlam for my dishwasher and sink, the technician was polite, professional and reasonable in his prices. My dishwasher at the time had no hope and instead of ripping me off by trying to do repairs on it, he just told me to call it a day and get a new one. His honesty was really appreciated. He was also good about the embarrassing situation of finding all the cutlery my sister kept dropping in the sink as well as the rice that was clogging the sink (my sister again). This time his communication was fast in regards to my fridge and even appropriately followed up by asking additional questions. read more

I called Al about our aging dishwasher.it was working, but not working well. Other large companies could not be bothered returning calls, or coming. Apparently we live in such a disposable world that you just buy a new dishwasher and send the old one to the dump! But not, Al, he was willing to look at my limping dishwasher. Al is the epitome of a good, honest man. He works on a fixed fee basis and because he had to make several trips to my house and try several things, he probably did not make any money out of my business. Still he was a man of his word! He gave me his first theory about what the problem was and offered me choices about how to go about it. Basically I could try and see if the cheapest method would work, or replace the whole motor, etc. I was a part of the decision and I learned from him! He offered advice about how to keep it running better in the future. All the while he was a kind and fun to talk to....and my dishwasher works great now! I never write reviews but I just felt so strongly that I want people to know what a great guy Al is and to confirm what others have written. I have recommended him to neighbours and everyone has thanked me and loved Al. I didn't get his whole life story but my meighbour did and said it was fascinating. We used Al to get our old 1970's wall oven back up and running. The oven has worked fine since we bought our home, and we were not ready to refit our entire kitchen cabinetry to replace it. We called Al on a Sunday, and he was here right on time later that same afternoon. It turned out to be a straghtforward wiring issue that was fixed in under one hour, at a very fair price. Not only was the service prompt, courteous and professional, Al took the time to explain every step he did, and he is honest and friendly. I can't say enough about Al. He is honest & trustworthy and has been servicing my Parents appliances for many years. Recently I called Al about a problem with my dryer. He diagnosed it right over the phone. I texted him the model number and he showed up at the agreed upon day a few days later. When Al showed up he was very respectful and appeared very knowledgeable. He put on booties before coming into the home and quickly confirmed his phone diagnosis (it was a switch). The whole job took about 30 minutes, and Al vacuumed out our dryer to make sure everything was safe (no lint near the element). The price was very reasonable and Al invited me to call him if ever decide to replace the appliances, as he would recommend certain brands/models. Found Al a few days ago on yelp while looking for someone to come repair our dishwasher. He had great reviews so I gave him a call. Already over the phone he asked for the model of the dishwasher and could already guess what the problem was simply from me trying to explain. We chatted a bit more and he came over the next day. He was super punctual, knew exactly what the issue was, explained to us while he worked and was just an amazing service overall. He's a great guy, shared some good life lessons while he worked and even told a few jokes. Highly recommend it to everyone looking for someone who is very good at what they do. The whole thing took less than an hour and not only does our dishwasher work like a dream now, but he gave good tips on how to keep it working longer. I called Al to repair my 6 year old Frigidaire Range. The part was going to be expensive, so he told me that a new range would actually make more sense - only a few hundred dollars more than a repair (which would only have a 90 day warranty). Found the new range for $839 all in (tax, delivery, removal of old range). Cost of repair could have been $600-700. Phoned him to offer some $$ for all the time he spent with me - and he refused. I called about ten Appliance repair places to get some help fixing my daughter's washing machine. I had the machine in my SUV and was looking for a place to drop it off for repair. It soon became very clear that there are very few repair shops left for appliances and that most of the businesses are a mobile service for repairs in the home. Fortunately I was able to reach Al by phone and he agreed to come to my place and take a look at the machine. We unloaded the machine on the street and Al had it fixed in five minutes. The was a small sock stuck in the pump. Al removed the sock and the machine is now working perfectly. What a wonderful person to come within the hour and repair the machine right there. Very few people are as caring and considerate as this person. I feel very lucky that I was able to help my daughter out and it didn't cost and arm and a leg for the repair. There are not many businesses that really want to go the extra mile for the customer these days, but Al is a true exception. A real gentleman and a very good repair man. While he was repairing my fridge he took the time to explain what was wrong and how he would fix it. He actually guaranteed his work and to call him if it wasn't fully fixed after he was done. I had an oven that wouldn't work, because of some electrical problem. I did enough research to know that it was likely one of two parts that had gone bad. I called A & M, and talked to Al on the phone. He was very generous with his time, had worked on this sort of oven many times before, so could tell me which part it was, and told me that I should go ahead and fix it myself, without needing to pay him to come out. From what I could tell, this is just the way he does business -- generous, helpful, right, and (more than) fair. I owe him at least a box of chocolate.
