Great place for all your auto maintenance & repairs. Reasonably priced and affordable. They do honest work & they don't nickel & dime you for unnecessary work. We have taken all of our various cars (7+) that we own (73 Pinto) to newer model cars after the warranty expires. All of the repairs & maintenance have been done by A & J. We have never had issues either. The owner Jeff is super nice. His assistant, Hovey is cool and funny too! Marco is the main repair guy and he downright knows his stuff and clearly knows what he is doing. read more

The staff at A&J are knowledgeable and friendly. Along with that they do NOT do work that is not totally required. It seems that many mechanics these days work very hard to inflate the customers repair bill. Not A&J! read more

Thank you Miguel, Aaron and the team! I service all my cars here, they are really honest and knowledgeable! I took my Nissan there this week, Miguel did a thorough inspection, gave me his professional advices and even found the recall from the factory. They went above and beyond, I don't think I can go to a different mechanic. read more

Marco is the best! He's been the mechanic that's been doing all the maintenance on my car for 5 years. He is very knowledgeable! Explain your issues to Marco and he will fix it properly and efficiently for you. Never talk to Hovi about your car issues. This place needs a price menu for their services as well. You'll most likely get screwed over in labor cost if you're young. read more

Jeff, Hovey, and Marco are the magic trio of car repair. They've helped me out a couple of times now with different things on different cars. Hovey is great at part selection and suggestions and does not suggest over the top needs. Prices here are very fair, sometimes lower that name brand places. Work is guaranteed and I've never had a problem with them. They are on a first come first serve basis and it helps to catch them when opening if you are in an emergency. They are really good and it may take longer than promised sometimes. Some car problems are like an onion where you peel back a layer and find more problems underneath. Definitely recommend. They are in a small stall slightly off of Sherman Way and Canoga Ave on Deering St. read more

Honest. How many mechanic reviews start with that. Hovey and Jeff are really good. Been coming here for 14 years now. I was recommended back then. Hope to pass this on. Old adage states that with a business you can get two out of the three following possibilities. Price, quality, and time. At A&J you get price and quality. They do this by keeping the shop small and being involved. This means that it might take some time for them to get to your car. But, ask Hovey for the rental car hook up from the Hertz down the street. They have always upgraded me when Hovey makes the call and the daily rate is cheap. read more

Jeff Hang is one of the most awesome person I've ever met. My aunt and I came to this body shop even though we live 17 miles away because he was highly recommended by a friend of ours. Jeff exceeded all expectations, and went above and beyond. 哥哥您好棒！ read more

Excellent staff, and awesome work. Very affordable, and they don't overcharge or tell you to fix things that don't actually need it. Hovie is awesome! read more

I got the Cadillac converter replaced there. It had a year Warranty my check engine light come on went auto zone and they said it was the Cadillac converter went back to them they said the warranty expired two days ago and they do nothing read more

I've been coming to this place for about 15 years through a recommendation from my uncle who's been taking his cars over for years. I can tell you that this is an HONEST place. They will tell you exactly what you need and don't need to do. And the PRICES are fair. Very, very FAIR. Hovey is a friendly guy and the front man, Jeff is a lovely man and owner, who also does the smog checks in the back, and Marco is the mechanic extraordinaire. I've come here for emergencies and maintenance, and sometimes after an occasional oil change with a thorough check up by the dealership. Their prices are so reasonable, so much less than the dealership, and they are friendly, good people, doing good work. I keep coming back. They're not the fastest service, and sometimes they are swamped with cars, but that's true of most good mechanic places. They are not always 'on time', they might take a bit longer to open in the morning and get settled. Hovey is not the multi-tasker. He takes his time. If you have patience and want a place you can TRUST with a great mechanic (Marco), at AFFORDABLE prices, with advice and quality you can trust, and FRIENDLY people to help you, this is a great option. read more

These guys helped me out a HUGE jam! Thank God for Jeff and Hovey! My Benz C240 got stuck in Bakersfield coming down the Gravevine. I towed it to the dealership and they quoted me a new transmission, radiator, and transmission control module. Over $9500 in repairs!!! I was within 3 minutes of leaving my car on the side of the highway with the key. Jeff recommended I tow it into his shop so he could take a look at it. They got the work done within a week, had a guy rediagnose that I would not need a new transmission, replaced my module and only charged $1200 to boot! read more

Let me start by saying I've been to dozens of auto shops in sfv and sgv and finding an honest good mechanic after being put through the ringer at soo many other places was a godsend. I brought my car for a what I thought would be an expensive fix. Got a call the same day from Hovey (guy at the front desk) they could fix it for 75$. They could easily have convinced me it was some 300$ issue like so many others have because I just don't know enough about my car to know otherwise but they were honest and cheap. I honestly didn't think I'd ever say those two words in the same sentence about a mechanic but they really are. Plus Hovey could not have been more helpful and actually treated me like a person and not a number. Will definitely be back! read more

Been going here for several years now (and it's like a 30 minute drive from my place). Jeff is great, nice guy (and I think he might technically be a rocket scientist, haha). Nothing fancy or anything, but I trust them, and I don't feel that they would sell me anything I didn't need. read more

I am so glad my friend Debbie recommended these guys! Friendly, no BS and great value. It's such an important thing to find a mechanic you can trust and I have done that with these guys. read more

I've been bringing my cars here for years and theyve saved me so much money. Honestly, reliable service and great prices what's not to like? Hovey at the front is the best, he's friendly, knowledgeable, and professional and treats the customers like they're his friends. I would definitely recommend them. read more

Hovey and Marco are the absolute best. Awesome business very trustworthy. They are very nice and super friendly. Anybody trying to find the best mechanic please do give A&J a try. They are the most genuine people ever. Although the place is very hidden, but once you find them you are going to be a loyal customer for a long time. Best automotive in the valley! read more

had work done when we had an old car. At first everything was fine, Jovi or Hovi got tired of repeat business and gave up on us(avoiding warranties) and putting us at the bottom of the list so we gave up and not going back. read more

A&J came highly recommended to us by a friend, and we have come in twice to have work done on our car. Both times, we were dreading high repair costs like we seem to normally see at so many places, and Hovey fixed both for much less than we thought. These guys are honest and fair, and I wish we could keep going to them (we've since moved to Utah). Definitely check them out. read more

My Kia was running great one second and engine light came on followed by tractor sound from engine. I immediately brought to Auto Zone for free diagnostic (they found nothing). So I called my friend and he said "call A&J" so I did! Upon calling a nice guy named "hovey" answered the phone and said they were kinda busy but to come in. When I got there they were totally professional, ran 3 diagnostic checks and pinpointed the problems. After a couple hours I was back on the road and running better than ever. I will go there again and recommend to friends. read more

We've been going to Jeff at A & J for probably 16 years and I've got to say, he is the best and the most knowledgeable around - nice guy, too. We started just using them for smog checks, etc., but now we use them for everything for our cars, our kids' cars, and even my mom's car. They can always diagnose our vehicles' problems, tell us the actual, honest truth about what is wrong and how to fix it plus they have the best pricing. It's not always about who is cheapest but rather more about who does the best work and who is the most trustworthy. Jeff is all of these things rolled in to one! Parking is somewhat bad on the street and in the driveway (they share it) but just drive in and you will be so glad you did. I almost don't want to give such a glowing review because I don't want to share him but hey... business is business and Jeff deserves your business, too! THANKS! read more

Jeff and his team are honest mechanics. Service was great and Jeff was able to explain the service in detail for my car. Another car repair shop wanted to charge me $450 for new spark plugs and a fuel flush due to valve gasket leaks. But only the valve gasket seals need to be replaced and not the spark plugs and fuel flush. Thanks Jeff! read more

Hovey, Hobie, Halfsmart. Same difference...Don't go here unless you like terrible service. Held my car for two whole days to make a minor repair. Never called me, I had to call 're-introduce myself each time because Hovey can't TASK much less multi-task. Told him I would be picking up my car first thing in the morning(they open at 8:00 but not really cause Halfsmart needs his breakfast) took 15 minutes to find my work order, 10 minutes for Halfsmart to figure out the credit card machine-Now I am late. Of course someone else parked my car next to the homeless encampment1/4 mile away and no one knew where it was . Asked Jeffrey, the owner, is this how you do business? He told me to wait, I asked him to simply point me to my $%@&?!ing car and I will walk to it. He cursed me, I told Halfsmart I blamed him as he's the one I talked to, why is my car parked far away? Over the sound of his knuckles dragging, I heard him tell me not to come back. No problem there...Oh, the car didn't even get fixed, so there's that, too. I only came here for the crooked smog check place that Jeffrey also owns. Guess I should have gone legit from the get go. read more

We've been coming here for years! Hovey and the team always do a great job and the prices are very fair. We would definitely recommend them. They are an honest shop and make sure your car is running great before you leave. read more

I will never go anywhere else! I went in to to Hovey and Jeff wondering how I was ever going to come up with the $800 I had to pay last time to get brakes on my ML-300 (that's just front OR back). I almost fell over when they said they could do it, and did it, for under $300. And it's not like it was a discount job. They have decades of experience in the industry and do everything with expertise (and dare I say love). They changed a headlight for peanuts (very hard to do in these cars). They fit me in last minute. They always create an atmosphere of calm. *And* they have cinnamon candies on the desk. Couldn't recommend them more highly. read more

I've been coming here since 2000. Jeff and Hovey are beyond amazing and their prices keep me coming back even after I've moved to the Westside. They do all my regular maintenance at a fraction of what the Lexus dealer charges. Love them so much that my family and friends now come here! read more

It is so nice to know an honest mechanic when your car needs to be serviced. My brother started with A & J and slowly the entire family started going to them. Everyone is very friendly and the service is excellent. They also have a great smog service when your car needs it. I almost hate to give them such a good review because they might get too busy for me but they really deserve the praise for what they do and how they do it. read more

These guys are the best. I moved out of the valley but still drive 60 miles to come take my car here. They are smart and VERY ethical with cheap and fair pricing. Honesty is key. I have never felt pressured or swindled at all and I'm always amazed how cheap my bills are. The main office guy is the human embodiment of the sloth from Zootopia, but you will come to appreciate him. Take your car there, walk to starbucks on Canoga and chill till they're done! read more
