I have over 116,000 miles on a 2019 Volvo XC90. It had been making a rattling noise for a few weeks and was hoping it wasn't what forums said was likely. The supercharger. After changing the oil trap, the noise persisted. I didn't want to take it to the dealership, I've had two unsatisfactory experiences at two different locations. I considered two shops and settled on A&D. I made an appointment with Alex and the car was in the shop for 6 days...It has now been 7 days since picking up the Volvo and the car runs like new. Replaced the supercharger, changed timing belt, spark plugs, upper engine mount, some items located below the supercharger and changed oil. All repairs, maintenance and pricing was expected, no surprises. Yes I did spend a bundle but it's a Volvo and hope to put another 100,000 miles on. Communication was excellent. I appreciate A & Ds professionalism and fair pricing. Alex is great at the front. I'll update if needed. For now, I would definitely recommend A&D Autowerks. read more

Very easy and pleasant experience. I called for a quote for brakes and rotors compared to other shops and dealerships. They were able to get me in ASAP to get my brakes changed. Alex was very upfront about pricing and how long they'd have my car over the phone. He made the point when I dropped off to let me know pricing was what we talked about over the phone and if they had to add anything he would let me know immediately. I dropped my car off at open and was ready by 3pm. Will definitely return for service in the future. read more

Quick turnaround , fair pricing and great customer service. I found A&D Autowerks through Yelp and noted they were recommended for service on Volvos. They replaced my AC compressor and used factory parts. I had a great experience with this shop. read more

I have used this shop multiple times and found their staff to be fair and transparent about timing and pricing. Sent my sister in law here and she had a good experience too. I have a Hyundai SUV she has a Mazda hatchback. read more

The staff was extremely friendly. They had my car for the day to work on brakes and a check engine light and stayed in constant communication the whole time to give me updates. Instead of upselling me on the brakes/rotors they inspected them, told me they were still good and let me know how much longer they should last. My check engine code was read on the spot and explained before I even had an appointment so I would know what to expect. I couldn't recommend the shop enough based on my experienced. What I ended up paying out the door was significantly less than most other quotes I had gotten. read more

I had a great experience at A&D Autowerks. I brought my car in for an oil change and the team was kind, professional, and easy to work with from start to finish. As a woman, I've often felt uncomfortable at auto shops, like I'm being upsold or talked into services I don't need, but that was not the case here. Everything was explained clearly, there was zero pressure, and I felt respected and informed throughout the process. They were honest, straightforward, and came across as genuine. I will definitely be going back! read more

I had my 2012 prius repaired here a few months ago. I had gotten a quote by another local mechanic for more than double what A&D quoted me. I went with A&D. It was a lengthy / difficult job from what they told me that took a few days longer than what they originally estimated, but that was fine with me for a job well done. In the months since, there was one instance where my car made a scary grumbling sound, but it resolved on its own and the car has been running smoothly since. Thank you for saving my car! read more

They were very helpful and well priced. I took both my cars here for an oil change and they had me in and out. Danny at the front was very friendly and informative, nice guy! read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but Alex and his team absolutely earned this one. I brought my car in for an oil pan reseal, oil change, and tire rotation, expecting the usual "here's the price, take it or leave it" experience. Instead, I got the complete opposite. Not only was the initial quote already very fair, but they went out of their way to find additional ways to save me money--without compromising quality work. That kind of honesty is rare. The quality of work was top-notch, everything was explained clearly, and I never felt pressured or upsold. You can tell they genuinely care about doing the job right and treating customers fairly, not just making a quick buck. It's hard to find a shop you can actually trust, but this is one of them. If you want great work, fair pricing, and people who have your back, go see Alex and his team. I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Customer service were great, Alex was timely and super helpful in explaining the services I needed. I'll definitely be coming back for anything my car needs! read more

These guys are great. Dealer told me my car needed a ton of work, including expensive diagnostic tests and replacements. I was skeptical and brought my car here for them to look. They fixed a couple of simple issues and said the car is fine. They were efficient, effective, and honest. They are my go to mechanics now. read more

Beat shop around! These guys are legit. I took my 2013 Prius in for an expectation/alignment. They never tried to upsell me. They juas told me what was needed and how to fix it. I will absolutely send everyone to this shop! read more

Caring, quick and responsive team that gave me a fair price for a long overdue tuneup. They clearly didn't try to charge me for anything unnecessary, and seemed to want to cultivate longterm customers instead of just going after short term profits. They finished work faster than expected and charged way less than I estimated. I will definitely be back next year to have them service my Volvo again read more

I am so grateful I found A&D Autowerks when I needed to replace my front and rear struts. The dealership quoted over $2000 just for the front struts, but A&D replaced both front and rear for under $2000. The customer service was great. Alex was very helpful, from communicating through Yelp to provide a quote and book the appointment, to checking in the day of to confirm the service and pricing before starting the work. I never felt pressured to do more than what I came in for. I trust A&D Autowerks for quality, fair, and affordable car maintenance. I highly recommend! read more

My breaks were making a weird noise when I started it up. My usual mechanic is first come first serve and wasn't able to take me. I looked online and saw that A&D Autowerks had great reviews so I decided to call them. They were able to squeeze me in last minute because they cared about my safety on the road despite the fact they are appointment only. They checked my breaks and noted that the noise is probably from the material and gave me a report on the status of my current breaks . Eric reassured me that there is no damage to my car. I was so surprised when they gave me a print out of everything they checked and the price was $0! Eric was absolutely wonderful and helpful. A&D has earned a new customer and I will definitely be back. He said that they were booked out usually 2 weeks so make sure to make an appointment 2 weeks prior to my services if I can. I'll definitely be back!!! read more

I'm not sure when I first started coming to A & D Auowerks, but five cars later I am still their biggest fan. They do great work at such reasonable rates. I recommend them to anyone who has a car. The whole staff is really friendly. Thanks Dave for running such a great shop read more

Eric and Dave are class. As long as I live in San Diego, I'll be coming here. I thought I'd have to leave my car there for a while because there were a bunch of things wrong with my car. They got it done within 2 days and were communicating with me the whole time. read more

I came in to replace a transmission seal. Months later I noticed a leak in my car. It was the color of a transmission leak. I went back to the shop suspecting that one of the seals just wasn't put on correctly or a bad part. They then diagnosed that my car had a separate leak and that it was an oil leak instead....oil and transmission fluid have different colors. So, I did maintenance to fix the oil leak at another shop because of A & D's lazy inspection. Yesterday, was the last straw. I came back to push for one more inspection on the transmission leak, yet they made an excuse that the oil leak was not fixed properly because it was done at another shop. They didn't even bother checking the bottom of my car. The "oil leak" he showed me was the pre-existing one. The fluid is completely dry. There's nothing dripping. Super frustrating having to deal with them. Please just take my car on a lift and inspect the bottom of my car lol. read more

A&D was recommended to us by a friend of ours that has a used car business and brings all of his "non-super cars" to A&D. One of the most important requirements we asked for when was someone that we could trust. I think this is one of the most common concerns when finding a new mechanic. My partner had taken her car in a few months ago for normal maintenance, and had great things to say about them. Today was my first personal experience with A&D, and I will say that they deserve all the hype! I was told by my partner to take the car in to have them investigate the service light & get the oil change. When I arrived, they looked up the service history, and informed me that it was too soon to have the oil changed. We then were able to diagnose why the light had come on. (We had changed the battery which turned the light off, but didn't actually reset it.) They reset the service light for me, and sent me on my way... no charge. They just said they would see me next time, which they definitely will. Any business that turns away business will always get my trust & respect. I came in at least expecting to get an oil change, so they could have easily performed the maintenance and sent me on my way as a still happy customer. The fact that they sacrificed a bit of profits to build a solid ongoing relationship means they are the type of business that I will consistently give my business to. read more

A&D is super reliable and honest. My friend recommended A&D Autowerks. I called and explained what was going on with my car, and they provided me with a quote and turnaround that was significantly less than what the dealership quoted. Dave helped me out and was really patient. They didn't try to upsell me. I highly recommend this shop! read more

Very disappointed with this place. I had called months prior to get a price check on how much a basic oil change would be if I provided my own oil. They said $25 for labor + $5-6 for filter, called two weeks ago to schedule my oil change appt and got same exact price response in phone call so I proceeded to book my appt. Came to my appt and first of all, they claimed my oil housing filter had to be replaced because it was tightened too much from my last oil change so they had to use a prybar to open it and it punctured a hole. That ended up costing me an extra $50 to replace... The cherry on top is when I got my bill it was $35 for oil change labor and $9 for filter. Not only was I charged more than told but also that whole filter replacement ordeal was frustrating. Really disappointed in the dishonesty that I received, really tried to like the place. Had I known this was the actual price then I wouldn't have booked in the first place. Will be taking my business elsewhere next time. read more

They have saved me so much money! They're so great. They're honest and their prices are the best. I always regret it when I make the mistake of going somewhere else because of a coupon or because another place can get me in right away. It's better to wait a little longer and go here. read more

I'm not from SD and am also a bit low on money.. Eric and his team at A&D reattached my engine splash guard for FREE! They jacked up my car, rewatched it, and didn't charge a dime... Phenomenon people at A&D! Highly highly recommend. Honest people that actually care are HARD TO FIND! Don't pass these guys up, they really care about their customers! read more

I recently switched from another pretty reputable mechanic that I had been going to for years. This place is everything that the other place was starting to lack. In a mechanic I'm looking for someone who is able to break car terms down into things I can understand. I'm looking for clear communication, responsive, and reliable. A&D autowerks is exactly that. I have two used cars, a 2007 Camry and a 2014 Nissan Versa note. They know exactly what to do and how to handle both. They offer advice, give their honest opinion, and they're not trying to "sell" because they don't have to. Their work speaks for itself. I will NEVER EVER go anywhere else. read more

I had a great experience here with my 2000 Volvo a couple of years ago. They were very knowledgeable as to the common issues with these cars and fair and fast in diagnosis and repairing. They were also prompt and well priced. I would go back for sure. read more

I was referred to this place for their work on Volvos. I wasn't able to get an appt for 2 weeks but luckily the issue wasn't critical. They did say if for whatever reason my car could not be driven that I could tow it there before my appointment. They took my car in timely & were able to pressure test for a coolant leak. I asked to see the leak and they were happy to let me into their work station. I didn't see an active leak but did see dried coolant everywhere. They suspected a hose needed replacing which is similar to what other mechanics had told me. The others had also told me the thermostat was leaking which they did not initially notice. When I made mention of that, I guess they reassessed and came back stating that also had a leak. They gave me a fair quote (I looked up the price of the parts myself) and they were willing to have it done by the next morning and delivered on that. I was actually able to pick my car up that afternoon! Overall I had a good experience. They were friendly and kind. The only thing I would complain about was that I was told over the phone they would diagnose my car for free with no stipulations on having the work done there. After the diagnosis, they were charging me for 30 mins of labor (~$58) unless I decided to leave my car with them that day to be repaired. If I drove away, I would have had to pay. It would have been nice for this to be communicated prior. They did, however, allow me time to make a decision and weren't pushy about it. Other than that, I would say they were very nice, professional and punctual. They seemed genuine in their responses when I asked questions which put me at ease. Car issues always stress me out. All in all, I would return and be sure to confirm what I will be charged for so no surprises! Thanks A&D! read more

Dave is a Volvo expert, taking my XC60 T6 R-design (the fancy one), is like taking it to Volvo yet getting the top mechanic/supevisor every time. Brought my 2012 Honda civic in to get her checked out. She was making high pitched/grinding noises when I drove her and let the shop know. Took her in on a Monday and got her back on Tuesday (could've gotten her on Monday but my schedule didn't allow me to pick her up). Let me preface that my car is about to hit 100k miles and only has had regular maintenance done. I'm already expecting to have to pay a lot for things to be replaced. They originally quoted me for about 1.7k worth of repairs but I walked away with paying 1k. I had to have my rotors, break pads, air filters, fluids and some plugs repaired. Their service was awesome. I've taken my past car (Volkswagen beetle) here and they've been nothing but amazing. Straight up, honest and nice people at this business. The only downside is how packed they get. I was told to call 1 week in advance to get in their books. I did do that, but they were already booked 2 weeks out! Totally fine because I understand that they are high in demand and must mean so many other people trust A&D. Eric, you the MVP. read more

Honest and friendly mechanic. So hard to find these days. Grateful for this shop and the employees that work here.

Whenever you're in the market for a new auto repair shop, it can be a stressful process. It's hard to know if they are genuine - especially if you aren't a car whiz yourself. Luckily I was referred to A & D and they have been awesome to work with so far. I never feel like they are trying to sell me anything I don't need. Dave & Arnie are just really nice people who want to help! Pick up & drop off is always flexible and easy.. And the most important part - they do great work on your car! I've been here a few times for standard things (oil change etc.) but one time my car was making an odd noise and so they did a full check up on my car, identified the problem and fixed it. They communicated with me every step of the way and made a somewhat stressful process very easy. I cannot recommend A&D enough! They are the best place to go to in San Diego! read more

Have you wished you could find a auto repair shop where you feel valued and taken care of without breaking your bank? Do you enjoy working with honest mechanics who are upfront on what needs repair and what can wait? This is your local honest mechanic shop! Luckily found this shop on Yelp. Recently my wife's Acura started sounding like there was a suspension issue...noisy, rattling, sounded horrible on Balboa driving over the streams of potholes). I called a few places and felt like the mechanics wanted to talk about everything else other than the suspension. Called A&D Autowerks, I explained what was going on and he agreed it sounded like the suspension (struts) were going out so he set up time to inspect the car. From the moment we walked in we were treated like long term customers, I mean we felt truly valued the moment we stepped foot in the lobby. It was such a difference from other shops in the area. Lobby is super clean and there is a door open to the shop highlighting that the work area is well organized and clean which is a big deal to me. This place is pretty busy but we never felt rushed. Long story short, got our car back same day, had the struts replaced, oil change and alignment for several hundred dollars ($500) less than the other shops quoted for the struts alone. Plus, when I asked about the rear shocks and he advised to wait until the next oil change and reevaluate as they are going out but still have life left! This is a win every day to me! Stoked to have a shop that I trust to work on my wife's car without the worry they will upsell or convince her to do work that is unnecessary. And most importantly, my wife is super happy with the quiet ride again! Thanks A&D Autowerks! Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. Other pros: early mornings or late night drop off with security box Lots of parking in street and lot Clean professional staff Clean and organized shop Fantastic value for the quality of work Responsive and easy to communicate with staff They call before performing nice to have maintenance read more

A & D Autowerks is great! I called, they didn't pick up, but called back right away which was so unexpected. I told them I wanted to come in for a few things I got quoted for over at Valvoline, made an appointment for a few days later, and got everything sorted out. They checked up everything, turns out everything I was told I needed to replace/add/etc. was not true, and I had one thing that I need to fix that wasn't even mentioned on my list. It's affordable, quick and A & D are super responsive and helpful. They definitely know what they are doing. Also, they are located on Convoy so there are a lot of places to go to (coffee shops, places to eat, run errands) in the area if you want to kill time while your car gets worked on. read more

Arne and Dave knocked it out of the park! I got stuck buying a lemon, got a good deal for a reason. Anyways found an engine for my cx-9 and a couple of places wanted nothing to do with it.... Long story short, they put it in and revived the car, back from the dead! They are a busy bunch, but will always make time for you! And it's worth the wait... I have 5 other cars that all are in good shape, for now but I know where I'll be going in the future! Thanks for being awesome mr. A and mr d. read more
