The store feels brighter,…read morecleaner, more organized and modern while still maintaining the feel of a neighborhood grocery store. I've also had consistently good experiences with the staff. The cashiers and other employees have been friendly, welcoming and helpful whenever I've been there. Whether it's helping find an item, answering a question or just having a friendly interaction at checkout, the service has always been positive. It's great to see a longtime neighborhood market being modernized and improved while still keeping that personal, local feel. The selection is great, the produce is always a highlight, and the store seems to keep getting better.

That part I completely understand -- times change, and every business has to adapt. Prices are normal for today's grocery costs, and I don't expect bargains. What I do want to acknowledge is the old owners. They ran this store for decades and created a real neighborhood feel. You could sense their presence in the way the store operated, and I hope some of that legacy stays alive in the new version of the market. They deserve a proper goodbye. The part that has felt different lately is the cashier experience. The staff I've encountered often seem unhappy to be there. I've had food tossed across the counter, and today I watched a cashier search for a counterfeit‑checking pen with visible frustration. They also don't allow small credit‑card purchases, which is understandable, but the attitude around it made the interaction feel tense. The store itself is fine, and I know they're dealing with theft -- the big screen with video feeds makes that clear. But the welcoming neighborhood vibe at checkout isn't what it used to be. The old owners built something that felt personal; I hope the new team finds a way to bring some of that back.

The strawberries are delicious, they give out free samples, they sell three different varieties of strawberries, so you can find one that suits your taste. My favorite are the Albion strawberries, which are sweet and firm. The Mara des Bois strawberries are also great, they are softer and taste like strawberry jam. $15 for a three pack - Mr Dim Sum: The green onion pancakes are the only ones I've ever bought that taste like the ones my mother handmade with love on weekend mornings. They aren't these flat disks, there are layers and layers of green onion and dough. You absolutely must try them. $10 for 3. - Far West Fungi. Highly recommend the baby shiitake mushrooms, and if they don't have those, then the shiitake mushrooms. They also have button mushrooms, as well as a wide variety of more exotic mushrooms, but the shiitakes are my favorite. Saute in a bit of olive oil, add salt, a little garlic, totally delicious. $5 per basket - Rainbow Chard. I can't remember who I buy this from, but there was only one stand that sold rainbow chard anyway. $5 for two big bunches - Pea Sprouts. This market specializes in Asian vegetables, and you can usually get some pea sprouts here. Saute with a bit of salt and garlic. - Xian Cai / Shen Choy / Aramanth Leaves. Another delicious Asian vegetable. Saute with salt & garlic. - Winters Fruit Tree. Lots of cool, unusual flavors of nuts. My favorite are the Rosemary Maple Almonds & the Orange Honey Almonds. $5 for 1/4 lb, $9 for 1/2 lb, $16/lb. - Estrellita's Snacks: Really great pupusas.

Yes I seen all the hacks about certain fruits which should be ripe but end up not ready for consumption. Then there are some which are visible like green bananas and green mangoes. These are usually found inside the chainstore grocery stores. There is one place for decades in the Mission District which has been offering one of the freshest fruits around in SF. It's located on 24th street and it's called Casa Lucas. On a Mission District Summer stroll I landed at Casa Lucas. Growing up in the Mission Casa Lucas has had a good reputation on having great juicy fruits. Although our family shopped at Safeway for groceries but the fruits were usually bought at Casa Lucas. Inside Casa Lucas you will see lots of fruits and also some vegetables. You also find salty chips and cheese like some in SF. This is a good place to grab those sweet juicy strawberries and mangos on those sunny days. This place consistently has great prices and not just on a few items but most of the produce laid out (they showcase a bunch outside the store on the sidewalk). They have some of the cheapest produce at any grocery store hands down. Beats out those mom and pop grocery stores in Chinatown even and the Mexican grocery stores in the Mission which are known to have cheaper produce. Case in point: $1.00 a basket for ORGANIC blackberries. This is before the Cyclospora outbreak when there was a fire sale on berries everywhere. You can't even buy non-organic blackberries for that price. $1.00 per avocado and they were big ones. Most of the things we bought were what we saw on the sidewalk but when we walked in to pay the store looked nicely stocked and was organized and clean. Checkout experience was pleasant and quick. I have no idea how their sale prices are so good but I guess I won't question it and just be thankful deals can still be had in the city where prices have gone up so much. I only wished we lived closer otherwise we would shop here on the regular.
