This was the case for all three local locksmiths I called on a Saturday. My mom had a doorknob fail on a kitchen door between her back door and the main part of the house. This locked her out entirely. She is injured and preparing for surgery Monday, so it was particularly concerning to have her stuck outside. Ultimately, a friend was able to come by to remove the trim and get it open with a credit card for her. I moved to the state of Oregon 20 years ago, so my number is no longer a local area code. Despite calling for (and clearly noting) I needed help for a home in Toledo, perhaps this played a role? Or they could not come anytime soon and couldn't be bothered to just call to say as much? No idea. All I know is they not only did not have a prompt response, but I got no response whatsoever. Certainly, can't get behind that. Hope you do better than we did if you're ever in a bind. ------------------ Updated 5/8/22 to provide phone log photo as requested. Detailed message was left. Not sure what happened with their messages. Sometimes phones are just weird, it does totally happen in life. It sounds like it was a busy day for them. Of the locksmith options I found, I would still try calling them again - I didn't get ANY responses. So bizzarre. But based on my experience trying 3 local providers, all with good reviews; If you need someone ASAP - and especially if you have to leave messages - definitely call multiple companies to be sure someone calls back. And it sounds like calling again is smart if you are ever stuck waiting around without any responses. I haven't needed an emergency locksmith for 15 years, so this was certainly a reacquaintance/learning experience. I've learned something useful about how to best get in contact with one! Don't avoid this company because of this; just cast yourself a wide net of inquiries and then don't worry about calling them (or anyone else) again if you are in a more urgent situation and need help.

So, I go back to look at the messages and I notice a picture of the same guy for 2 different companies. Like, what type of scam is this? He was able to diagnose the issue in just a few minutes, and it's working better than ever. Absolutely the most inept repairman that I have ever seen in my 76-year lifespan. He made my…read moreornate, expensive, front-door handle inoperable, then left with the inside knob hanging on. It came off in my hand the minute I tried to turn it. He didn't have the nerve to ask for any kind of payment. The part on my outside, front door handle meant to be pressed by the thumb would not move. Seems to me like it needed proper, internal lubrication. He immediately said an internal part was broken and needed to be replaced. First thing he did, after he had difficulty removing the inside door knob, was to strip a screw when he tried to take the mechanism apart. Soon after, it started to work properly, because it needed, as I suspected, some lube. Now, it just needed to be put back together. He tried for more than an hour, but could not figure out how to put it back together. He jerry-rigged it so the handle looked like it would stay on. It did not. A follow-up call to another locksmith turned out that a spring was somehow lost in the disassembly of the door knob. In any event, a complete replacement will be necessary at the cost of several hundred dollars. I should have known the fellow from Speedy was dicey when he immediately decided without much looking that a part replacement was needed. After he failed to get the knob back on, he hemmed and hawed when I asked if he could replace the entire thing. Clearly, he did not want to tackle that project. In his defense, he's a nice guy. Speedy may be just fine for unlocking car doors, but for anything more involved, I would look elsewhere.

The local Ace hardware was unable to make keys as they didn't have a comparable blank. They even checked Lowe's to see if they carried them. No such luck. I searched on line thinking I could take a key to their shop which was one of the few near me at 40 miles away. After explaining my dilemma the gentleman (Forgive me for not getting names) asked that I send him photos to see what we were dealing with. I took pics with key along side a ruler for more detail. After he looked the pictures over, he said he didn't have that size. Said he would call back after checking some things. Soon got a callback from a woman this time (could hear him in background) who told me that the lock and key were from Great Britain which uses a different measure a bit larger than ours. They had kindly looked up the website for the name on the key. Although not knowing the translation of pounds to dollars the prices were not cheap. Since the key number written on the key had been smudged when trying to make copy at Ace, they suggested I might find the number I needed inside the lockset. I could take it apart or I could have the gent drive here and do it for around $300. The assured me that it was a simple thing and led me through the process over the phone. That was the best could could do other than suggestions on what to ask from my contractor or what I might want to order from the key company. I bet I spent 45 minutes or more on the phone with them. All the while the man needing to leave for a job, but we were using his cell phone. Thanks for being so patient. I tried to give them my mailing address for a bill, but I was waved off as just customer service. Are you kidding me? They were so helpful and kind I would have gladly paid. Kevin came the next day, although it had snowed that night, a ninja two he made it came on time programmed the key fob.
