The rate was super reasonable for what was done, as well. They also went above and beyond, IMO; a scraping noise started after the repair. I waited two weeks to see if it would go away. It didn't. So, I went back and explained the situation. They said to bring the car over ASAP and tbey would look at it. I did. The mechanic stopped what they were doing immediately, attended to the car, and resolved the issue. No extra fee. Beyond pleased! Thank you Thank you Thank you

The "rude lady that answers the phone" that a previous Yelp reviewer was referring to is their front desk staff. Her name is Renee and her customer service skills are horrible. She always seems stressed and overwhelmed, making her difficult to work with as she tends to become upset with customers over things that are out of their control. I witnessed her become agitated by a customer who had just been in an accident and got their car towed there all because they didn't call first. You would think the front desk staff would have empathy for someone who just experienced an unwanted, possibly traumatic event. She makes customers feel as though they are bothering her and gossips about others as soon as they leave her office space. Also the repair staff laughs off inquiries as a way to avoid genuinely addressing customer's concerns. I went there for auto-body repairs, however the upholstery on my seat was worst when I picked it up versus when I dropped it off. I hate to leave bad reviews, but I really don't want others in the community to experience/ witness what I did. I went their twice for repairs and figured that my first experience might have been a one time ordeal, but after my second experience there, I most definitely see this is just how business is done here and will no longer support this establishment.

I was parked in Oakland and someone smashed my car window completely. I took my car to this…read morelocation only because it was one of the options through Statefarm. I really did not like the service here, for three different reasons: 1. My boyfriend dropped off my car on a Monday morning and they were supposed to have me sign paperwork ASAP through email so that they could get started. I called the store several times because I had not received the email. Then finally they sent me the email with the authorizations. That whole day they did not give me any updates or estimates. Next day, same thing. I had no idea what to expect with my car. Finally in the afternoon, the lady connects me to the technician and he tells me he will call the supplier right away and call me right back to let me know when they'll have my window in stock. And of course, he never called me back. Then Wednesday I call them again several times and they tell me my car will be ready that afternoon. The issue here is not the timeliness. It's the fact that I had to call them at least 6 times over several days to demand some updates from them. All I wanted to know was: how long will this take? And it's also the fact that almost every time I called they were either too busy to pick up or they made me wait a long time or said they would call me back. 1. There was still glass in my seat when they handed the car back to me and I cut my finger on the glass! Then when I emailed them with photos, they did not even apologize. They just said to come by and they would clean it. I will not be coming by because I work the same hours they are open and I'm also not about to take time out of my Saturday morning to stop by at the auto shop. Next time just do a better job. Especially when you are dealing with glass. 3. The last thing I don't like is that they cleaned my whole car but left stubborn white streaks on parts of my interior, including one of the speakers.

The front desk person (there 28 years!) checked my Carfax and caught that the dealership had already done most of the work - something they never told me while quoting $1900. At Engine Works, I got only what I needed for $190, with no pressure, no upselling, and full transparency. He even declined a tip, saying, "I've been here 28 years - I'm not going to change my honest ways now." They gave me a roadmap for future maintenance, the estimate matched the final invoice, and online booking was easy. I dropped off at 10am, and it was done by noon - much faster than expected. The staff was friendly, they welcomed my two trained dogs, and my car is running better than ever. I commuted from Oakland and it was absolutely worth it. I will definitely be back.

Scheduling service is straightforward, especially online, and the overall process is efficient and predictable, which I really appreciate. I usually drop my car off early in the morning, and it's ready by the end of the day, or drop it early enough and then hang around for less than an hour before it is done. This makes it easy to work service appointments into a normal work schedule. That reliability goes a long way. What really stands out, though, is the service staff. The advisors I've worked with have been professional, courteous, and clear about what's being done and why. I've never felt rushed or talked down to, and communication has been solid from drop-off through pickup. Over time, this place has earned my trust. If you're looking for a Toyota service center in San Francisco that's organized, dependable, and staffed by people who know what they're doing, this one has treated me well.
