Dave and his team went above and beyond loading up the truck to move my best friend from Roanoke in the blistering cold/snow last weekend. I have to say that their friendly nature and willing to bear the harsh weather puts them in a rank above other moving companies. We were packed and ready to go in less than 2 hours and overall pleased that when we arrived at the final destination 550 miles away, nothing in the truck had shifted/damaged. Absolutely terrible experience! Ripped off $175 and they did not even move the items listed (line by line in an e-mail, sent in advance). I was warned about this company but foolishly did not heed the advice. It was just a man and his teenage son and they didn't even pack the small dresser that -I- have lifted and packed on my own during previous moves. I needed to move my son from Virginia Tech to Purdue and after researching moving companies, quickly became horrified by how many scammers are out there giving a lowball price and holding you hostage by not moving you without a last minute upcharge. The owner of A1 was honest, professional and was able to do the work quickly at a great price. They were on time, friendly and my son said they 'killed it'. The price paid was exactly what was quoted. Everything arrived in perfect condition. I am very happy to have found them and even happier to get the good word out. First they called me 2 days before my move that had been set up for weeks to try to push back the time of my move. Which was rude considering I had to drive 4+hours to get to my new location. However, I agreed to let them push back the time of my move by an hour. Then the morning of my move 20mins before they were supposed to arrive called to make sure I still wanted to move because it was raining, and I said I had to move because it was literally the only day I could do it. I already had the uhaul there, basically going in the front door of my home. Plus I had movers on the other end who were coming to help move me in the next day. So they said okay we will be there. Then they texted me 20mins after they were supposed to arrive and cancelled on me. I tried calling them and they didn't answer. So my father tried calling them and left them a voicemail. I just had knee surgery and my father recently had a heart surgery which is why I hired movers. So we then had to quickly try to find moving help elsewhere and get my money back from uhaul since A1 movers decided they didn't care. Thankfully we were able to get Brandon Lilly to come out and help us. When Brandon showed up it had completely stopped raining. So why A1 movers couldn't come out is beyond me. I would not reccomend A1 movers to anyone. They were very unprofessional, rude over the phone, and lazy. They don't care about helping others, they probably only care about themselves. read more

Zero stars. Did not show up and then refused to answer my numerous calls/voicemails throughout the day. When I finally was able to reach them 8 hours later, the woman who initially booked me informed me I was scheduled for a different week (even though I was only in town for 2 specific days to move out). When I suggested this was definitely a mistake, she screeched "I DONT MAKE MISTAKES" (sorry monacka, but everyone makes mistakes, and I would have been very understanding if you were the slightest bit understanding, apologetic, and professional). Unfortunately for them, I've already informed half the population to not use them. On another note -- MILLENNIAL MOVERS LLC came to my rescue and the people there are EXTREMELY professional, courteous, accommodating, and hardworking!!! I highly recommend you use them over A-1. Things started out fine. Communications on phone businesslike and clear-cut. The actual move needed my direction to encourage movers to stack things better to fit more things into the truck. The movers themselves were polite. There was someone damage to the plaster of one foorway and my sliding screen door. When I called to inquire about compensation for the screen, the office woman responded in an aggressive manner throwing blame on me for waiting three business days to report the damage. I asked to speak to the gentleman, a Mr. Marshall who listened and then said he'd lose money on the job if he replaced it but he'd come out and look at the damage next time he was out my way. A classy company, very professional, well-priced, very conscientious, went above and beyond, and very thorough! They came in at the last minute when I fired A1 Movers, as they called me the day of the move to ask me if I was aware that I was making them move on a Friday night for 4 hours, that I was going to have them moving til 9 pm in the dark( it's not dark at 9 in the summer), that they would not get home until almost 11pm, and questioned why i could not start any earlier than 5 pm., and that i better be ready when they got there! A-1 movers did a great job moving all of my things from a storage unit into two U-Haul pods to be shipped across the country. I was a little uncomfortable driving the big U-Haul truck that I rented for the move, so the owner drove the truck for me and helped me put gas into it after the move. The owner and his employee did a great job puzzle-piecing all of my furniture and other belongings into two pod containers. It was a miracle that they got everything to fit into the two containers! Had a great experience with this company. They kept true to word about cost for move ($60/hour; minimum two hours + $15 fee). I paid $135 for move + tip. Moved me out of a one bedroom and had no issues navigating tough stairwell @ apartment building. Would recommend for anyone trying to make a quick, affordable, and timely move. read more

This moving company was absolutely horrible. We were scheduled a time and they were 6hrs late (and could have been longer but we decided to finally not wait and do it ourselves). They kept on telling us it would be another "45mins-1 hr" about 5 or 6 different times. We called the movers and company MULTIPLE times and maybe answered once or twice. The lady I spoke with was very rude and unprofessional. The lady basically said "they will get to you" but couldn't give me a time or anything. I don't ever do reviews but I without a doubt had to on this one because it was just a horrible experience. We had used them one other time and they were great and that was why we used them again. But I definitely don't recommend them to anyone now. Never had I had to wait that long on movers, and their apologies were pretty pathetic if you ask me. read more

Moving process was good enough, but neither the owner nor his wife would provide a receipt. We had discussed needing a receipt months in advance when we scheduled the move so that we could get company reimbursement. Now we're unable to get reimbursement for our move and potentially have to eat the cost. When I called the owner of A-1, his response was "We're a small business, we don't do receipts". Calling back at a different time, the owner's wife made it seem like a big imposition to get a receipt but promised to mail it to us. We still haven't received it after 6 weeks of waiting. Unless you have the time and energy to supervise every part of the moving, I'd recommend staying far away from this business. read more

A-1 movers did an excellent job! They began in a timely manner and worked very hard to ensure that they completed the job within the allotted time frame. This was a difficult move involving four flights of stairs, but the men remained positive and went above and beyond to ensure that we were pleased with the results. I called A-1 Movers Christiansburg, VA claiming to be a 5 star moving service ( absolutely not true) to get a quote of what their rates would be to do a move for me. The office girl told me 2 men for $60 and that was for a 2 hour minimum and after that it was $30 per hour for the two men. I asked her to please clarify that it was $30 per hour for both guys and not just one of them and she said yes. So I scheduled a job with them. The job should have cost me $180 given the time it took these two guys but instead they told me it was going to cost $370.00 The bait and switch done by their boss shocked me as I was not prepared to spend this kind of money for a local move. I never would have hired guys at $30 per hour each, that is way too high for this area for a small local move. I did not want to pay them this high rate but the owner screamed at me over the phone and intimidated me and said they were calling the police. When the very unprofessional owner arrived at the Kroger parking lot, he was screaming at me and very aggressive with me. He charged at me more than once and I am a retired senior citizen. Had the police officer not been there I am certain I could have come to some serious physical harm. The police officer had to tell him to step back at least 4 times and he was still trying to charge at me even after the warnings calling me a liar. The Christiansburg police officer who could see that I had been a victim of a bait and switch and gave me advice on what to do. BUYER BEWARE A-1 MOVING SERVICE IN CHRISTIANSBURG VA IS NOT HONEST!!! NOT PROFESSIONAL. DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE REVIEWS, MOST LIKELY FILTERED BY THEM SO THEY LOOK GOOD WHEN THEY ARE NOT. WANTS CASH ONLY!
