I had an unfortunate series of events earlier this year. I found myself at 49 years of age (a month away to 50) being charged with reckless driving. Since it was my first offense, I was allowed a no-contest (nolo) and one of the provisions of my sentence was to take a Risk Reduction Class. My "offense" was in Florida, however I live in Georgia. This made it cumbersome to find a class that met both needs, especially with both states having different views on their return from COVID-19 guidelines, all provided online. Now, Florida would allow an online course, while Georgia required an in-person attendance. Luckily, Zoom participation was allowed to serve for in-person criteria. I called several training centers. They had either stopped teaching the course, or had closed their doors to a lack of business. I left a voice mail message for "! ! 0 1 Atlanta Area DUI and Driving School, LLC, and Eugene Nchinda promptly returned my call. He was both professional and personal. He made sure I felt confident that I could take his class soon and that it did meet the standards that I needed. We made an appointment to talk further after he encouraged me to look online for the dates that were of interest to me. Eugene was confident and caring. He made sure I was at ease and never asked me for details on my case or anything that had happened to me that brought me to his company. I can only imagine the stories he has heard from students, during his instructor trainings, and what I found out later from his personal experience. He had heart and demonstrated this in his teaching demeanor. Now, I have had 20+ years of experience being an American Heart Association Instructor for Community and Healthcare education. I have attended an instructor training class every 5 years, dozens of conferences, and trained thousands of people in my career, life-saving techniques. I pride myself on being a good student no matter what type of course it is, and I am especially critical of the teachers. I'm not afraid to offer constructive criticism in my after-course evaluations. Eugene had character and possessed class. He made me laugh on many occasions. He made sure each participant was included in discussions and was clear and concise with his delivery and management of time. Three days of training, back-to-back, is a lot to manage. Keeping us interested, engaged, enlightened and informed is a difficult feat. Eugene did this poignantly. I looked forward to our next sessions. He made us all feel human again, when a system had once made us monsters. He also was humble and open to learning from his students. That's a genuine trait of a great instructor-to be able to put ego aside and receive knowledge when it's their stage or show. I highly recommend Eugene Nchinda for your training needs. He's bright and a positive role model who's proud of his heritage from Cameroon, Africa. He would be a great presenter at conferences and as a representative of the curriculum and content he learns and masters. I pray-to all those who are reading this-that you never have to take this course or ever have to face a conviction of DUI (guilty or not). It knocks the wind out of you and depletes all joy and honor. I am a very strong, resilient survivor of a long-term, lifelong compromised immune system...my experience, as lucky as I was, almost broke me. I have witnessed how easy our hearts harden when faced with gloom and doom from a system that's designed to protect us all. I commend Eugene Nchinda in his commitment to providing necessary trainings that are mandated with a flair to engage each student, keep them focused, and remind us how easy it is to slip-up and a prayer that they never are charged with another DUI or reckless driving charge. In fact, his final words are "I hope that I never see you again, as a student of mine...that he hopes we meet again under different circumstances". That's a quality guy.

I called and set an appointment over a week and a half in advance. The man tells me that I was ok to attend the 7-10pm 2 day course and provided the location. He explained that it was at 383 Marietta street which was 3-4 min from my home. When I got there, they told me that the class would be in Union City. Almost 35 min from me! I had to take the course at that time as it was already planned out on my schedule. He told me it would take 15 min to get there and to follow him. I followed this man who was speeding down the highway and when I got there, he said we would have made it sooner if I didn't drive so slow... Umm hello??? I drove the speed limit of 65 and was not trying to get a ticket going to defensive driving school!! He was combative and told me that I had a choice to take the class or go home. The actual instructor was nice but it was extremely painful to sit there and listen to him read the whole manual. He literally...Read the pages and it was far from being an interactive course. And his voice was not pleasant to listen too. The video materials used had examples and statistics from 1998 and out of date procedures. On the second day of training, he arrived late while we were all there on time. I was even able to make it on time with the President being in ATL and causing havoc to the traffic. Once again, I had to come down there from the location that I initially signed up for. He arrived, with no apologies, opened up the office and began to start reading the book again after a video. While we were in class, the guy that initially had me drive out there came into the office and started playing music. Regardless of how low it was, it was distracting. After we finished over an hour early, they put on a movie to watch. The put on the un-edited version of "Friday", with all of the curse words and racial terms being used. I found that to be ironic being that the entire office and classroom is covered in religious verses. I felt uncomfortable hearing the "N" word and curses while we waited to be allowed to leave. Most of the teachers were patient, respectful, and trying to do the best they could with the situation they were working in. My issue was not with the instructors -- it was with the overall management, organization, and condition of the equipment. From my first week on the yard, there were constant problems with trucks not functioning properly. Students spent a huge amount of time waiting around for a working truck instead of actually learning and driving. At times, it felt like we spent more time standing around than receiving real behind-the-wheel training. The condition of some of the equipment was concerning, especially for a school that is supposed to be teaching safety and preparing students for CDL driving. Instead of feeling supported as students investing hard-earned money into a career, many of us felt like the focus was mainly on keeping enrollment numbers high and collecting payments rather than making sure students were actually getting quality training and enough seat time. A lot of students attending this school are working hard and stretching themselves financially to be there. The owner is fully aware of that, yet when concerns were raised about the lack of functioning trucks, downtime, and reduced training opportunities, the response was dismissive and focused more on refund policies and money than resolving the issues. Several students in my class had similar complaints regarding excessive downtime and limited access to operational trucks. I personally raised my concerns early during training because I genuinely wanted the experience to improve, but the issues continued. If you are considering CDL school, please do your research carefully. I would strongly recommend visiting the yard in person first, asking how many operational trucks they currently have available, and asking current students how much actual driving time they receive daily. In my experience, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience and not worth the money I paid. Save your money and seriously consider other schools before enrolling here.
