A little while back I noticed Leduc was getting a Planet Fitness, and they've recently opened. I…read moreknow I need to start working out, and I'm not the kind of person to work out at home or outside. But I also get intimidated by going to the gym. Actually I haven't been to the gym for several years (even with the pandemic). Still I was interested in joining Planet Fitness because their membership rates are pretty cheap. I actually signed up online, because I didn't want a sales pitch. I got the basic membership ($15/month, plus a $40/year fee and a one-time $1 sign up fee). The membership is only good my this gym, and doesn't some perks (like there's a spa you can use at the higher level), but for what a need the basic is good. So I popped into Planet Fitness today. There were several staff members working and a few people signing. Since I already got my membership I was told by a staff member to just use the app to check in. Apparently, the used to have key tags but with Covid it's easier with the app. It loads a barcode that scan super easy. They I was asked if I wanted tour, which I did. I was shown around and given information about the equipment. I don't how large this Planet Fitness is compared to other locations, but it's a good size gym. There's lots of cardio machines, and I like with the weight machines there are photos on the machine to show you how to use it. The staff made to sure to share that Planet Fitness is a judge-free zone, and if I have any questions about anything to just ask. They also have a 30-minute circuit, and I was told when they get a personal that they'll be offering an abs and a yoga class. Not sure if that's drop in or if you need to sign up. I only stayed for about 30 minutes. I did a few minutes on an elliptical. I like that the cardio machines have a headphone jack so you can watch the tvs the have or listen to your own music. There's also a usb port to charge your phone. And I did a few of the weight machines and was able to figure things out. Each machine also has a QR code and you can scan it on the app and see a video on using each machine. And I didn't use the showers, but the locker room is very nice. Everything was super clean (obviously you're asked to wipe down machines before and after use). And when I was there maybe there was 4 other people working out. The app will tell you if the club is busy, so if you want to avoid working out when it's busy that's a nice feature. I've only been once, but I had a good first impression. And I appreciate on the tour that I wasn't being upsold on the other membership (which I think is about $25/month, so not unreasonable). Downside is that the location is in Leduc Common and this area of town isn't my favourite to drive in. But to go to the gym a few times a week it's not that bad. And if you go make sure to bring a lock for the lockers (day use only) because if you want to buy one it's $12 (which is almost the price of the monthly membership). That was my bad, but still that's a huge markup, so save yourself some cash and bring a lock. But overall I like the atmosphere, the staff, and there's certainly a lot of equipment to get good work out.

I got a Groupon for this gym and wanted to try them out…read more First let's talk about the space. There's a small waiting area/reception desk and boot/shoe removal space (that's packed with kids shoes all the time, but they offer child care services during some of the afternoon classes so that's probably why). There's a hallway with a bathroom and the gym area is on the right side. The gym space is large, but it's not fancy or high tech looking like some other places. It does however have equipment to use, weights, free weights, resistance bands, those weird crossfit rope things, artificial turf/foam turf for running/cardio stuff, gym mats, and foam rollers. There's probably other stuff too. Gone Strong is about Group classes. They have a youth class, but for adults there is a general Group class or a strength class. I haven't done the strength one, but I've done the general one (led by Kelly) a few times. The classes differ each time. Sometimes you do upper body stuff, other times you do lower body. There's a mix of cardio, strength, and flexibility exercises. Anyway yes, group classes. If you prefer to workout on your own (not in a group) this might not be the place for you. Some of the classes offer childcare services (I think mostly the afternoon ones). I don't have kids so I don't know how it works, but it's a good idea if you're a parent who wants to get a workout. I think there's a play area in the back for the kids. They also have a hockey rink outside in the winter. This gym doesn't seem very fancy, but this is a good gym, especially if you are not a gym person like I am. I mean I'm not planning to run a marathon, and at traditional gyms I can feel very overwhelmed. The classes here are small, usually less than 10 people. Yesterday my friend and I were the only ones. I've only worked with Kelly, but she's been really great. If there's something you can't do or if you have an injury she has ways to help you work around that, or modify different exercises. The classes are very encouraging, and you do work out. So far it's been all women at the classes I've tried, but I don't think it's just women only. I've only gone to the afternoon classes, so the morning ones might be different. Small negatives. - The website is a little outdated, but it's got the information that you need on there. It's not really mobile friendly, so best to check it on a desktop or laptop. They do have a Facebook page. - After you give them your info you sign up for classes with the MindBody app (for Android or IOS). So hopefully you have smartphone/tablet. - The location is on 47 Street, right across from the Grain Elevator. There isn't a lot of parking in front of the building, but there is parking around the corner. In the afternoon it can be tight for parking, but it might be different during the day. - I like the variety of exercises you try, but I really hate doing exercises where I have to count. If you tell me to do 100 jumping jacks at some point I'm going to mess up counting and get myself confused. I'd rather do as many jumping jacks as I can in a set period of time (1 minute, 2 minutes, etc). That's just me. - The price is a little high (at least for me). I have a Groupon for Gone Strong Athletics ($40 unlimited for a month), but the regular rate works out to be about $12/class. That's probably not a bad rate, but I'm working a minimum wage job and I don't know if I can afford $100/month on the gym. The fact the classes are really small though, and you're getting close to personalized training makes this a pretty good deal for what you pay, but I might have to wait a bit and save up some money before I can come back here for another month. Anyway I like this place, if for the service and attention to detail. It's not fancy. You're not going to be using the SuperFitnessMachine 3000, but you'll get a good workout in an encouraging environment. That's what really counts.

I live in Beaumont and take the time to drive to Leduc just to go to the 9 rounds gym. I have to…read moreadmit it's not your typical gym. They don't just sell you a package and then that's it... all the staff are awesome! What I appreciate the most is that you can have 0 skill set or fitness level or be at a 10/10 and this is a perfect fit! The reason being, your only competition is yourself. If you're just easing into it, or you're in the best shape of your life... you would just increase intensity all while still getting an amazing workout in. Each day, is different exercises and reps so you don't get bored with the workout. Except the 1st station, which is warm up and is skipping. As a kid I used to be able to skip for hours, so I thought... hey, this will be easy. Lol 3 minutes of jumping rope when you're outta shape kicks my ass. But it gives me incentive to keep going and keep building to what I know I'm capable of. What's great is at each station when you switch... theres a trainer there to explain/show you what to do. They are there to show you as well as motivate you and keep you going. I can't say enough about how great they are. Instead of just buying a gym pass and hitting the fitness walls and issues of typical gyms, why not check out 9 rounds and get the most bang for your buck when it comes to you improving your fitness :) and better yet, they clean everything for you!

A couple of weeks ago I won a free week at 9Round Leduc through a Facebook contest. Yesterday was…read moremy first workout for the week and it was absolutely amazing!! Upon entering the facility, the trainers as well as the members were very welcoming. After getting changed into workout gear, Sam took the time to explain how everything works at 9Round. Once that was done, we were able to start our workout. There are 9 stations total (pretty obvious considering the name of the place!). Rounds 1-2 are strength based where you will do exercises with dumb bells, kettle bells, medicine balls, jump ropes and other equipment. Rounds 3-8 are where you will do your Kickbox exercises with different types of moves (ie punching and kicking) on different bags. Round 9 is the ab and core station. You are at each station for 3 minutes with a 30 second break in-between each for a total 30 Minute workout. There are trainers there that help you through out each exercise. They will also help you wrap your hands and put your gloves on. Once your gloves are on, they will help you with anything - and I mean ANYTHING! Shoe is untied? Trainer will tie it for you. Need your shirt tucked in? Trainer will be there to help with that as well. And the best part? You don't need to clean up the equipment or wipe anything down after each exercise - the trainers do that too!! I found the trainers to be very knowledgeable, helpful, welcoming and kind. I had an absolute blast and I'm already looking forward to my next workout! I can't wait to see what my future holds at 9Round Leduc and reaching my fitness goals.
