I actually liked this 99 cents store! I like the selection, although depleted from Christmas rush, still had something for everyone and for being a busy Saturday afternoon the lines were moving. I didn't encounter rude manager the last two reviews mentioned, I will try to avoid that. It's smaller & bit narrow filled with lots of good stuff, but you'll just have to muster courage to get through it. And patience for all "kinds" people you'll encounter here (yes any cheaper priced store attracts all the weirdos & not the lower end, also the higher end of the "human food chain" - just don't act surprised, just deal with it. Their other competitor which I won't mention is also in same shopping center- spread the wealth and shop both!! read more

So today I would give them 0 stars if I could. I had the most unpleasant experience of running into the most rudest person I have ever met. Her name is Jessica and she claimed to be the manager. I highly doubt it. I purchased a few glass items and asked if they had paper to wrap them. She stated in an angry voice she doesn't wrap anything. I said I would wrap it myself if they had paper. There was a roll of paper behind her and I asked if I could use some of that paper. It was used for wiping the counter. She said if I wanted to purchase some. I asked if I could speak to a manager and she said she was.and then I read her name tag and she canceled my transaction and refused to sell me the items. I took the items to the next register where the nice cashier wrung me up and wrapped my items and apologized profusely for the rude behavior of Jessica. For years 99 cents store has been so kind to poor people as well as those who are not really poor. What I meant for "not really poor people" is that even those who are driving expensive cars are shopping to these stores. I'm thinking maybe these kind of shoppers are just spending their hard earned money wisely. However, these 99 cents stores has increased their prices tremendously. Covid-19 understandably has brought high prices of practically everything, however, these stores shouldn't be called "99 cents" anymore. read more

Oh, how I love the 99 Cents Only store. I missed it when I left California for years. I dragged the bf here knowing that he might not love it like I do. But he did. BIG containers of salad mix or organic arugula. Method mop refills ($4.99 at the Lowe's nearby--guess how much for them here?). A little rug that was the perfect size for what I needed. Huge bottles of rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide for the first-aid kit. You never know what cool finds lurk in these aisles. (Ask me about my candy dish shaped like NJ--the only state they had in stock. Or the Live Aid t-shirts from the first one that they had on a visit to an LA location.) This chain is the granddaddy of dollar stores, and it is so much better than the rest. read more

First time at this .99 store and I love it! They have a huge selection of items I can use for arts and crafts. They also, to my surprise, carry gluten free items! One of which is my favorite GF brand - GLUTINO! :) It's very clean, cashiers are friendly and there is always a helpful customer service rep on the floor to help locate items needed. read more

Great deals. Great selection. Customer service unpredictable. More than once, I've seen a line back up, the next line gets opened (in no hurry), and customers are allowed to rush the line, losing the order of the lines they were previously in. Invariably, someone gets shifted from the head of the line to the end. Checkers either don't appreciate the concept or don't care. read more

Pretty cool surprise to find out this 99 Cent carry fresh fruits and vegetables . Just stopped by to get a pencil and ended it up to buy young fresh coconuts Na banana . Store was clean and organized, will be back! read more

DON'T EVER shop at this location. The general manager is a rude, condescending woman who is on a power trip. I bought a 99 cent frame. It broke when I tried to put a picture in the frame. The next day I went back to the store to EXCHANGE the frame. I did not have my receipt. The cashier looked at me and told me, "Good luck! Our new manager is horrible to customers about returns." Sure enough the manager walked up to me looked at the broken frame and said, "We don't sell items like this in this condition" I replied, " I don't purchase items in this condition. I tried to put a picture in it and the frame broke at the corner. I would like to exchange it for another frame please." Manager asked for my receipt and I told her I did not have one, I just want to exchange it. Long story short, the rude manager refused a 99 cent exchange, lost a long time customer for this location and earned a 1 star review on Yelp. I told her I will no longer spend my money at her store, but instead go 5 doors down to the Dollar Tree. Her response, "I really don't care. That is your choice." Way too much competition to take a crappy attitude for 99 cents. And to top it off, the sweet cashier kept apologizing for the manager's rudeness and then said she is even worse to the employees. I have been here quite a few times now and continue to come here when in need of items that I don't care too much about quality haha like decorations for an ugly Christmas sweater party! They always have a few aisles dedicated solely for holiday decorations which is awesome and convenient! They have a pretty good auto section that carries handy items. This store also sells fruits and vegetables, as well as other food. They're always busy with a vast amount of customers, but have enough cashiers to handle the volume. Located by the Home Depot and parking is vast. They have carts and baskets to help you carry items. Their employees are very knowledgeable in what they carry. Overall, 5 stars for a dollar store! No negatives that I can find at this time. read more

I love this store, couldn't do without it...BUT! the low stars are for one of the most disgusting ladies room I have ever been in. No locks for the restroom stalls, just toilet tissue stuffed in the hole where the lock used to be. Obviously never cleaned properly, it is stinky, dirty, just plain disgusting...makes me wonder just how bad the men's room might be. A lot of seniors enjoy shopping here, I'm one of them and a lot of us have bathroom issues...one of the gifts of aging. Then what about the young'uns in here shopping with Mom and their need to go? It is a very disrespectful way to treat people who come to the store and then have a need... Instead of perhaps having 3 or 4 men all running around collecting carts at the same time one could have a screwdriver for fixing things that need fixing and cleaner and such to make the place clean and smelling good so people don't have to hold their breath when they go in. I imagine you would have no problem at all knowing where to get the stuff for clean-up from. I cannot apologize for this I was totally disgusted but I do sympathize with any and all of your customers who have had the need to use this facility. This is my opinion and I am entitled to have an opinion and that opinion of mine and a dime will get you nothing at all. That said I LOVE THIS STORE. read more

Besides the regular year round shopping, I have made very large purchases three times a year for the last 7--8 years as we support the Oasis School in Thermal at Start of School, Christmas and Year end ... I had over purchased one particular item by 5 and had come in for a refund or exchange and apparently they have a no refund or exchange policy after 9 days. I've never seen it posted and the manager could care less. He didn't bother explaining he just went on to the next customer. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!! Manager Alva is rude and so are the employees. Just a few of my complaints are, they never have the same thing from day to day, shelves are constantly empty. About 2 months ago I was in there when freezer doors were left open, the food in it thawed, and when I brought it to their attention they did nothing about it. The lines are long, bc they only keep 2 people up there checking people out. You have to tell them to open up more lines. The kicker though was this past Saturday Melissa flat out refused to bag my groceries. The male manager intentionally gave me the wrong number to the corporate office. They just lost my business forever over a .99¢ bag I had to buy last week, bc they were OUT of plastic bags. The woman stuffed it to the brim, and by the time I got home, it ripped. All I wanted was a bag that wasn't, and bc I didn't have my receipt for a bag that has the store name on it Alva refused to exchange it. You've lost my business forever. read more

Working with a tight budget has no better friend in the world than the 99 Cent Only chain of markets. I usually find EVERYTHING on my list here in the Indian Wells branch. I go to this store and the one on Monterey in Palm Desert to buy fresh fruits and bagels. They have Western Bagels at 4 for only 99 cents - these are New York style bagels and I think they are excellent and no way can you beat the price. They usually have blackberries at 99 cents and often have blueberries and strawberries at 99 cents as well. read more

I love the items here BUT the cash register tonight was completely inappropriate. She should have been fired for the way she treated me. She was extremely over friendly to all the customers in front of me in the line and was taking extra time to the couple checking out in front of me asking questions about their baby, the baby's name, when it was born, saying oo happy late Mother's Day happy early Father's Day, etc. Basically pulling words out of her ass to make sure I had to keep waiting. It was an obvious racial move or she thought I was "better looking" than her. She was very very rude to me once it was my turn to check out. Her voice completely changed and she wasn't even going to bag my items until I gave her a wtf are you doing look. This woman needs to be spoken with on not treating people differently just because of how they look. Thanks read more

99 cent stores as a whole are in the midst of a complete company restructuring. Changing everything from corporate practice to most impactful to its consumers, the store operations. They are doing this as a necessary reaction to years of previous mis management and years of huge losses. They (corporate leaders) are doing this with an immediate expectation and no reasonable time line. The cost for this is the treatment of its employees or more accurately the mistreatment. As a previous store manager with the company and ultimately forced out due to refusal to continue to endure mistreatment and employee rights violations, i witnessed/experienced acts such as unreasonable expectations, unfair accountability and threats of employment loss if non compliance to their unreasonable demands. I am in agreement 99 cent stores need fixing and are getting there but when its at the cost of its employees treatment and rights, that is the most egregious form of unethical business practices. Remember, if you patron this company you are condoning and even supporting this behavior. Conservative estimates claims 110 million americans work in the service industry. Chances are very high that each of us knows someone in this field and therefore would not condone this kind of treatment of our loved ones. Do NOT condone this or support this behavior from 99. Patron another retailer. Send the message that they cannot treat human being as disposable to their end means. read more
