The BEST freshly cut tropical flowers in Honolulu, Hawaii!
For Ching Ming (Chinese Memorial Day), I was looking for something to take to the cemetery for the ancestors...
96744 Tropic Flowers was located at the very beginning of the Kaka'ako Farmers' Market, so it was easy to notice. When I took a closer look, this vendor had some unusual Torch Gingers and other Heliconia. The prices were also very reasonable! I took a chance and bought a bunch of flowers and a stem of the Torch Ginger so my mom could look at it.
My mom's yard had pink and red Torch Gingers, but not like these! (I think that it's a Malay Rose Torch Ginger.) Mom asked if I had a plant... I laughed and said, "No..."
That was April 4, 2020. I went to check on the flowers on Easter, April 12, 2020. The flowers from 96744 Tropic Flowers were still good! Wow!
I went back to Kaka'ako Farmers' Market on April 18 to let the owner, Kevin, know how hardy his flowers are and how happy I am! He was very humble and grateful for the feedback! There were other customers who seemed to be repeat patrons because they called Kevin by name.
I got a new bouquet of Red Ginger, yellow Heliconia, green pinecone ginger, and variegated hala leaf to bring to my dad again. Most of the flowers from April 4th are still healthy! Yes! I tell you... tropical flowers are meant for our weather... not like mainland flowers that wilt quickly!
So - if you need durable, colorful, beautiful flowers, come to Kaka'ako Farmers' Market on Saturdays from 8am to noon or Mililani Farmers' Market on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. If you need suggestions, Kevin will surely help you! read more
