BEWARE of Making Moves, in Cleveland, Tennessee.
We…read morestrongly suggest not using this company for any of your moving needs. We originally hired a moving company to move us into pods after selling our home. The company did a good job, but we could not get them to show up on time for work and would often be waiting until lunchtime or later for them to arrive.
We decided to choose a different moving company this time. Making Moves, located in Cleveland Tennessee, had a few good reviews online. We did not do an extensive online search of the company because of our busy schedules. The owner, Paul Ridgeway, assured us from the very beginning that his company was different because his employees worked full-time. He said the job was their livelihood and they were dependable. We scheduled several weeks in advance to ensure we were on the company's calendar.
Yesterday was the first day the moving company arrived. Although three employees showed up, only one truly worked hard. His name was Desmond. The other two worked extremely slow and would often stand around until we worked with them. Several times we had to actually start unpacking things ourselves and telling them what to do. One employee said he didn't go to bed until 3 o'clock the night before. He appeared physically worn out and was holding his shoulder.
The owner told us the movers would unload three of our pods that day and would work until the evening if necessary to get it done. The movers said they do not take lunch but did take breaks. We ended up providing drinks and pizza for them because it was so hot outside and felt they needed to have plenty of things to drink and food to eat.
The mover said they would probably only do two pods that day and unload the other four pods the next day, which was not what was discussed with the Owner. After checking with the Owner, they proceeded to unload all three pods.
The next morning, Desmond, who is a wonderful mover, arrived on time. He told us he had some bad news that one of the employees (whose second day was yesterday) called out. He said there was no one else to help us until later during the day and that he would be working by himself. We knew he could not move the furniture and things by himself.
My husband called the owner, who had changed his disposition and was now rude. He said he could not help it that people did not show up (after assuring us that his group of people showed up because it was their full-time job and livelihood).
He said that Desmond could work alone and that the others would show up several hours later or whenever they finish their other job. Again, we scheduled this move several weeks in advance to ensure everything was scheduled, and the employees were available for our move.
The owner was rude to us and has an "I don't care attitude". He went as far as to say he would pull his one employee off the job. We told him that one of his employees told us the previous day that he worked two jobs. His other job was as an LPN and 12 hour shifts. The owner became a smart aleck said that his employees only work for him and called the employee on the phone while speaking with us. The employee said that the moving job was his full-time job, but he also did the other job. The employee did not say he was PRN, but that he had another job. It was unprofessional for the owner to call his employee in an attempt to prove he was correct (which he wasn't).
After listening to the owner's " take it or leave it attitude", we chose to leave it and find another moving company. After we got off of the phone with the Owner, he called back, trying to get us to let Desmond start alone and work for several hours, possibly longer by himself. We told him that was not our agreement and that because of his terrible attitude, we would find someone else.
We praised the work of his employee Desmond and told him he needed to treat him very well.
I went online and did an overall research of this company and Paul Ridgeway, the owner, has some terrible reviews. Please use caution and avoid this moving company. I wish people still had moral integrity and a willingness to go the extra mile.
