Loved, loved, loved, staying at this quaint, clean, and historic motel during a recent trip while visiting family members. Prices are so reasonable, location is perfect and overall value I'd rate as exceptional. We liked that the property adjoins a protected wetlands/bird sanctuary and even though the busy Rt 88 is just meters away from your front door, the units are so well insulated and the property is so lovingly maintained and upgraded that there almost zero road noise from inside the unit. Property is family run, going on three generations. Owner is a devout young Orthodox Christian lady who we found out actually graduated from the same high school I did (albeit years later). The entire experience here was top notch 5-stars! Units contain everything that you could ever want or need ... aside from the usuals, there's a small kitchenette with good sized refrigerator, cupboards complete with plates, glasses, silverware and cookware. Only slight downside is the rather small shower stall, but this does nothing to diminish the 5-star rating. We cannot wait to return again when our travels take us back here. Great clean rooms with kitchenette. The pool is very clean and a great size with picnic table, bbq grill and lounge chairs. The delight and surprise is the wetlands/ bird sanctuary behind the motel it was peaceful and beautiful. The location is close to many stores and a 12 minute /$16 Uber ride to the Pt Pleasant boardwalk. We booked this last minute and for just one night but have plans to stay longer and return. We were visiting family for Thanksgiving and my husband had to work (government job!), so I had to travel with my 6yr old and 4.5yr old daughters solo from Brooklyn, NY (we live in a highrise) to the Jersey Shore area. I couldn't have asked for a better home away from home. When we entered the two bedroom room, we were immediately greeted with a "Welcome" sign. We arrived late and past the girls bedtime, but they raced around opening cabinets to the fully stocked kitchenette, the full size refrigerator (that was bigger than some of my old NY apts) and then my 6yr old set the table for the morning at the dining room table with chairs. The girls then tried out each bed choosing the one by the bathroom. They ripped off the bedspread then squealed in delight at the navy blue, velvet blanket underneath (they're kinda obessessed with soft blankets). The next morning, they ate a continental breakfast in bed at 6:30am in my bed, watching some cartoon on the flat screen TV! We explored the backyard which had a full lake and felt very naturey to our urban city sensibilities. I asked Ken, the co-owner who was outside grilling bacon and eggs for breakfast what that tall stuff was in the middle of the lake. And he said..it's wheat grass or marsh grass, something like that (Hahaha...) Only in NJ! The girls ran around finding pinecones for an art project I keep promising will happen someday. Next they ran around playing hide and go seek with themselves and their babies (Disney princess dolls). All the rooms are ground level, so it felt like our own ranch style house they could go in and out of. While they did that, Liz, the other half of the co-owner and who's family has owned the 88 Motel for 50 years or something crazy like that, she snuck in and cleaned our room and replenished our towels (which there were SO MANY OF)! I say this b/c we just came from the girls first trip to Disneyland and at the VERY EXPENSIVE Disney hotel we stayed in...they didn't come in to clean or change our towels b/c of COVID! Ok great for precautions but I was saving the towels b/c we couldn't get them replaced. Anyway-sorry for the side tangent. The VIP service, the cleanliness and the little details in the room (there's a cute triangle corner shelf for your iPhone by my bed!) felt like we were staying in the penthouse suite of an expensive hotel in NYC. There was a quick snack break and then we checked out the beach which was minutes away. It was windy and chilly in November, but deserted and the girls had a blast b/c they love SAND! We came back and it was quiet time (b/c they've grown out of naps but Mommy needs a BREAK!) where they each were on their headphones watching some YouTube uneducational show b/c the room had free wifi! To close, we had an AMAZING time. It felt more like a Bed and Breakfast (without the weird, uncomfortable no space, no independence) because the service was so warm, welcoming and I felt like Liz and Ken were family. They treat each person who stays at the 88 Motel like family. That's what you get when you stay at a family owned and operated hidden secret in Brick, NJ aka the Jersey Shore. I plan to share the the 88 Motel with all my NYC, Brooklyn and CA friends and family so they can feel the warm hug and love too! read more

Recently spent 4 days at the Rt 88 motel and LOVED IT! Family owned and operated by a wonderful husband and wife who look out for your comfort and security at all times. Stayed in Unit #5 next to the pool and wetlands area. The room was spotless with modern conveniences of a kitchenette. Room service was timely and never intrusive. I grew up in the area and if you are looking to return to how it "used to be" or experience why so many yearn for the past, the is the place. Best value and best location close to everything without the crowds and high prices. All of my return trips to the area will include my stay here. Thanks Liz for being the best host!!! read more

Well I would not recommend this motel to anyone...it looks like they rent by the week not night. I am in town for s funeral, as I pulled in with my suit hanging in the back of a late model Jeep gathering my self because it looked pretty gloomy and vacant. I grab a quick picture for my yelp check in photo and rather large strong looking man cone up to me and gives me the third degree. I simply said I was using my phone and he said I was acting odd and very strange. He was a intimidating...finally he said he was the owner and things didn't get any more welcoming so I got out of there as soon as I could. read more

last week we returned to the 88 for our annual family NJ shore vacation. We had 8 of the 10 rooms the Motel has. We have done this for the last 17 years with multiple generations, our kids and grandkids now continue our tradition. This is a family run operation which is now under the care of Liz & Ken. They are the nicest motel owners you will ever meet. They do everything they can to make your stay as nice as possible. They just can't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. We return each year to be greeted as family not guests. They always leave a plate of fresh home baked cookies in the rooms for the kids, a sweet touch! This small 10 room motel is well maintained and has recently remodeled rooms. The rooms are more than adequate is size. The pool is crystal clear and an oasis to be enjoyed. It's only 15 min from Point Pleasant Beach a real plus. This is the Summer of Covid19 so we had to adjust our plans accordingly. We did not go to the Boardwalk or Beach so we could remain socially distant. We instead took full advantage of the pool while ordering food to be delivered as needed. We were unsure how this trip would play out with 21 people ages 75 to 3 years old but everyone enjoyed the laid back poolside vacation. We made many new memories this trip and we will return next year to make many more. Hopefully we will be able to go to all the shore spots next year and return to our shore normal. This is not a big chain hotel. This is a lovely, little Mom-N-Pop owned motel. The owners are friendly as can be, the rooms look newly remodeled and are very clean. Motel is close to beaches, grocery, liquor...whatever you might need. Highly recommend! read more

The owners are wonderful and accommodating. The pool was the cleanest I have ever seen. The kids really enjoyed using. The setting is gorgeous. The room was very clean and actually larger than it looks in the pictures. There was plenty of room for the 4 of us without stepping on one another. If you are traveling to the Jersey Shore, I highly highly recommend staying at the Rt. 88 Motel. First of all, this motel is CLEAN and the service is excellent. You'd be hard pressed to find another motel in the area that even comes close to the care you get here. Also, you have all the amenities of home on a slightly smaller scale: microwave that works, WiFi, flat screen TV, AC, stove. The beds are made daily and fresh towels are provided. Liz and Ken are the owners and are very friendly. They truly make you feel welcome. In the summertime, they have a beautiful crystal clear pool available that overlooks the picturesque Beaver Dam Creek. If I could give 6 stars, I would!! read more

This is a very old style motel. It is family owned and kept very nice. Nicely manicured landscaping and very clean rooms. The pool is also very nice. The rooms are clean, well maintained and have fridge, small stove top, coffee maker and microwave. Comfortable beds, firm pillows, great night's sleep. Clean but very small bathroom with tiny shower. Great location, too, in a quiet, not a crowded area. Disappointed that the WiFi in our room was spotty at best. We've stayed here two years in a row and will definitely be back.
