In March of 2014, I went to Dr. Busch for debilitating TMD symptoms. Someone had given me a list of dentists to consult, and seeing that Dr. Busch had such wonderful reviews, I thought I had struck gold, and the chronic, debilitating pain I had been enduring would be a thing of the past. In fact, I thought finding her was too good to be true. Sadly, my intuitive cliché was the only thing that was true.
For ten months I went on a painful, expensive journey with Dr. Busch, which finally came to an end when I showed up for an appointment with her, to be informed by one of her office staff that "Dr. Busch is too busy to see you, and she said to go to Strickland(physical therapy)".
Really? Too busy to see someone that has an appointment with you???
I would have left her dental care sooner if she hadn't told me that she was the only dentist in Austin that could help me. I'm sorry I believed that lie, mainly because I lived with a lot of pain and went to over 50 (!) physical therapy appointments at Strickland physical therapy to try to get my muscles to succumb to the new bite she created.
That's not even the worst of it. For two months prior to my appointment I had been left without a bite; unable to chew, much less speak without having painful muscle spasms in my masseters, pterygoids, and temporalis muscles. If you don't know what TMD feels like, please go have a horse kick you in the face. Then go have said horse kick you in the face again. That's what TMD feels like.
When I expressed to Dr. Busch the pain I was experiencing, she really didn't seem to care, instead, she said ridiculous things to me such as: "everyone has pain. Those who don't have pain are living on an island". Huh. I thought I came to you to fix my bite and get me out of pain? She also began charging more than what was initially quoted.
To me, something wasn't right. I was still having so much pain and new symptoms with her treatment, when I was supposed to have a "good bite". Not once did Dr. Busch try to figure out what was going on with my mouth. Her attitude was : I gave you a good bite, aren't I amazing?
Thankfully, she rudely dismissed me from my scheduled appointment, otherwise I am 100% certain I would still be suffering; i.e. Unable to function; chew, speak or work.
Thankfully her rude behavior was what led me to a new dentist; who immediately determined that the deprogrammer (mouth appliance) Dr. Busch made me was entirely wrong. It was bringing my lower jaw forward, causing me massive pain. Even though my jaw wasn't in the right place, Dr. Busch went ahead and added composite to my teeth.
The new dentist I went to fixed my deprogrammer in one quick visit, he also made molds of my teeth to see exactly what needed to be done.(Dr. Busch didn't do that either) . Once my muscles were fully relaxed from a properly fitting deprogrammer, my jaw joints could seat properly. Once this took place ( this process took about a month because my muscles were such a mess), it was determined that all of the composite that Dr. Busch added to my teeth was unnecessary. (??!!!)
Obviously, I have very mixed feelings about all of this. On the one hand, I am beyond elated to be out of the pain that had RUINED my life, and on the other hand I was shocked and angry to learn that Dr. Busch's dental "care" had caused me so much pain. Maybe you should have tried to figure out what was going on Dr. Busch, instead of thinking you are so amazing? Or least refer me to Dr. Sonnier, who knows what he is doing and is kind.
Now, I am pain free, but NOT because of Dr. Busch. Dr. Sonnier had me out of pain very quickly and for a fraction of the cost of what Dr. Busch charged me.
Thanks for being too busy for my appointment, Dr. Busch. Otherwise, I would still be paying you to ruin my jaw. read more
