My experience with the leadership and overall culture was much less positive. There appear to be clear favorites, and not every player seems to receive the same treatment, recognition, or opportunities. Player promotions can feel influenced by relationships rather than solely by performance, effort, and development. Team formation also raises questions. Many of the same players repeatedly end up together, creating a sense of established cliques and making it harder for players outside those groups to receive the same opportunities. I also did not feel that leadership advocated equally for players outside of their preferred club or circle. While having access to a nice indoor facility is a benefit, a facility alone does not develop a player. I have seen players with far fewer resources develop into amazing athletes through hard work, good coaching, and the right support. There is a lot of potential here, but greater fairness, transparency, and consistency from leadership would make a significant difference.

I attended a birthday pool party at night so all I can remember is the rectangular shape of it. The temperature control is a great enhancement! Location: Situated near Hanalani school. Nice size lot with an abundance of open stalls. Some stalls are not meant to be reversed in, there's a sign. Few vending machines for snacks and drinks. Lifeguard checks the chlorine level every so often. Pool toys seem to be allowed. I brought my sons pool rings and the lifeguard didn't say anything. Great pool overall. I'd come back on days I wouldn't want to risk the chance of swimming in an over crowded pool at the other recreation centers in the vicinity. Why I subtracted a star: Floaties aren't allowed. Including infant ones.. Lifeguard didn't even notice we were blowing it up because he was doing his job by watching those in the pool. I didn't see a sign either. A lady who clearly works at the rec center walked right past us and could have told me straight up. I won't bite.. But instead she told him and then the messenger came to us lol.

They're welcoming and always go over everything from rules to if you need help, etc. The boys always have fun paintballing. This last time, I paid $240 for 6 boys which included everything and 100 balls each. I bought them 2 cases of 2000 balls and they lasted about 3.5 hours. Stop! You had me at pool party…read more First time here and celebrating a birthday. This is a private community area so you need to be sponsored in. It's a decent size that consist of three covered lanais and four small cabanas. The largest lanai where we were at has a regular refrigerator and a sink. The counter top is large and has several power outlets. Also there's a countertop island where the host has placed all the food. The pool is great size. Not too big and not too small. It almost takes up half of the community area. The kids really enjoyed it and surrounding the north side of the pool are lounge chairs. There is a shower between the restroom entrances to wash off the pool chlorine. Security was visible the whole time. Well two guys wearing security labeled tee shirts and taking out the bagged trash people left after cleaning up. I think they are there to enforce the rules and make sure things don't get out of hand. Overall four stars. Great parking and reasonable seating. Not quite five due to long reservation time. and looking for someone to sponsor you in. Great place to celebrate with a small crowd or family. Now to get my feet wet. M

My husband and I signed up for membership with the Kaiser Permanente incentive. He goes to the Mililani location after work. I go to the Leeward location. The Waipahu Y has ample parking. The pool has a couple of lanes open for lap swim most of the day; some days allow for families to swim. There's always a lifeguard. There is a little room with equipment for those of us who are too shy to go to the top floor where all the other machines are. The locker room and shower area are clean. We appreciate the ease of membership giving us access to multiple locations and to classes and equipment and a pool. We didn't need a place to workout at 2am. We didn't need the complicated finance options of some other gyms. The Y is perfect for us.

We were able to…read moreget an introductory meeting with Phoebe who was very informative, understanding and answered all of our questions. This gym is conveniently located in latter half of Waipahu. It is on backstreet cul de sac - right hand side. One entrance and parking on the left side of the lot only. If there is no parking in the lot, then there is also street parking. The gym is spacious with flooring for tumbling, and different equipment to cater to the gymnastics classes. The coaches are so great too! My daughter has been going to private lessons with Coach Lawrence and Coach Kiana. She has been able to improve on her skills for her back handspring. They are very patient and willing to work with her at a progressive pace. They also help with her mental block, confidence and encourage her before, during and after practice. Even she notices the difference only after a few weeks of coming here. We truly appreciate the Coaches and team at Ohana Gymnastics. Highly recommened to anyone who is interested!

The only downside is that parking can suck depending if there's an event happening at the community center. The staff at Leahi is amazing. Ashley, who works the front desk almost always and helps with registration is amazing. She's so personable and treats everyone like family! She and the pool staff made accommodations to help my daughter feel comfortable during her first lessons without a parent. The staff in the pool has been amazing and accommodating. Kiki - who graduated HS and is no longer working there, really helped my daughter with her confidence and really helped her literally every step of the way. Sage was so fun and very enthusiastic! Ashley (in the pool) also helped my daughter gain confidence when my daughter was really swimming on her own. Koa is awesome and really makes you feel so welcomed too! I also do commend the owners as well. I was at the pool one day when there was a troubled parent/grand parent asking why her student couldn't move up levels. Even though this customer was clearly frustrated and maybe a little angry with the owner, the owner explained why so calmly that the requirements aren't just there just cause - it's for safety too!! Mismanaged Instruction & Staffing: Although the class was assigned two instructors, a single disruptive student monopolized the lead instructor's attention for the first several weeks. Consequently, the rest of the students were relegated to playing around with an assistant instructor rather than receiving structured instruction. Flawed & Missing Evaluations: The mid-session progress report evaluated students on deep-end skills during their very first couple weeks in deep water, making the assessment premature and inaccurate. Worse, no final progress report was ever provided at the end of the session, leaving us completely blindsided when told our son was recommended to repeat Beginner II. Moving Goalposts & Poor Administrative Support: When I called for clarification, the representative repeatedly backpedaled and changed their explanation. They ultimately claimed that opening eyes underwater without goggles was a mandatory passing requirement--a rule that was never communicated to parents, and one that contradicts what we observe in the next level up, where students routinely wear goggles. If promotion is strictly skill-based, the facility must ensure adequate staffing so high-need students do not drain instructional time from others. Parents deserve clear expectations, continuous updates, and actionable feedback--none of which were provided this session.

Every correction is done in a positive and encouraging way, which really motivates the players to keep getting better for themselves, their coaches, and their teammates. I'm very happy with the coaching my kids are receiving and the support they get not only from their coaches but from their teammates as well. Because many of the coaches are also parents, it's clear they genuinely want to see the kids succeed, and that really shows in the way they coach. When we decided to switch hockey programs on Oahu, my kids and I were welcomed with open arms. I'm incredibly grateful they had room for my kids and treated them as aspiring players from day one. He is always looking forward to practice and his games. HIHI does play on an outdoor rink and while they're working hard to get permitting for tiles and coverings, we are at the mercy of the elements (mainly rain / storms). The coaches and parents at HIHI are completely devoted to this program - they are there almost everyday coaching practice, coaching games and mentoring the keiki. They also offer pick up games throughout the different weeknights (and weekends after games) - open to anyone who wants to play.
