I spent abut 2 hours here on a Sunday, arrived around 10am and found parking to be a breeze. Maybe I got lucky though, as usual and found a front spot. There are about 6 covered buildings where you can find mostly new goods and foods. The perimeters along the freeway, sides and back are where individuals pull up in their vehicles, unload and sell anything and everything. I did not see a great deal of antiques, collectibles and such like that, so i was a tad bit disappointed. But this place is huge and you are bound to find something if you are looking for it. Best part of all, there is no fee to get in, no car fee, nothing! as other yelpers indicated, it does get dusty in the parking lot. read more

WOW! This place is crazy! Part junkyard, part thrift store, part Dollar Store, part...... Didn't get to try any of the food or snacks since we had just eaten a huge meal but there were a lot of stuff that looked very tasty. It's fun walking around and seeing bunch of junk, potential treasures, and semi-new stuff. I love browsing so it was super fun. It does get really hot so dress accordingly. Comfy footwear is a must! read more

The Brownsville flea market is amazing. One of the first places I went to in Brownsville when I moved here and it is like nothing I've ever seen anywhere else in the US. It has some vintage clothes and accessories and some antique furniture, but these are not really the most common vendors, as they are at flea markets in other areas. This is a place to get food, rummage through junk for cool pieces of machines and car parts, buy a pet turtle or a chicken, find some traditional Mexican herbal remedies, and just plain experience the amazing culture of the Rio Grande Valley. It's outdoors and involves a lot of walking (because it's so big and there are many vendors!), so wear light clothing in the summer. If you can stand the heat, get some tacos, corn, or freshly fried chips (that come seasoned and on a long stick) at one of the trucks/stands, and definitely an agua fresca (the carts for these have large clear containers filled with fruit juices, and often fruit salads). Aguas frescas are like a mix between juice and a smoothie and I highly recommend the melon (not watermelon, but cantaloupe) flavor. Do not under any circumstances leave the Valley without trying one. Unless you are diabetic, because I'm guessing these things have, like, a half cup of sugar in them. read more

Rule #1- wear comfortable shoes! In this place you have to walk! EVERYWHERE and OVER anything. Lol! You can find just about anything from video games to chickens and roosters. Some of the vendors just have plain junk, but others have interesting artifacts. Parking is a pain in the rear end if you don't arrive early! Don't wash your car before coming here sense the lot is all dirt and sand. They do have officers in golf carts "patrolling" the area of the lot, but that doesn't mean to leave your car unlocked. Feel free to shop around for prices. At times the vendors sell the same things at different prices, so it is advised to look around a bit before deciding to buy. The place we always take out of state visitors. So huge you can't walk the entire place in one day. We take a break at one of the small food courts. It helps to speak Spanish, but you can get by. Plants, flowers, trees.....the absolute best prices on these. You will find everything there including great, fresh produce and unbelievable prices. read more

It's a fun diversion. You can get clothes, pets, produce, furniture, CDs, and a million other things. The parking area is huge.

Best Flea Market/Swap Meet south of San Antonio-I have visit the ones in San Antonio, they do not even come close. Next time you are in South Texas, visit the 77 Flea Market (also known as "La Pulga" in Spanish) on a Saturday or a Sunday. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring cash, ones and fives is best. (ATM is available near the manager's office on the first row). The only thing that they no longer are allowed to sell is DOGS, the city banned this a few years ago; otherwise you will find just about everything; some stuff is new, some is goods returned to the stores; other stuff is just plain junk. Plan on walking a lot; and be prepared for dust and heat, sun block and a hat or umbrella is highly recommended; however you can always purchase some non alcoholic refreshesments-thus the need for cash, pretty cheap drinks, 1.50 to 2 dollars for waters, juices, sodas (I have not seen anyone sell alcohol-in the 10 years I have been going to the Pulga). They are open from early in the morning to around 2 or 3 in the pm. Parking is free, but sometimes you have to look for it, sometimes you park near the techitos (Spanish for rows) and sometimes you park near the expressway-do not park outside the chain link fence, this is state property (do a Goggle map if you are not familiar with Brownsville and search for 77 Flee Market). Every vendor will haggle with the price, so be wise and negotiate the price before buying. Also the city has banned plastic bags-so it might be wise to bring a recyclable bag (for la Pulga and other stores in Brownsville since plastic bags are not allowed). Sometimes is extremely crowded, sometimes is not; just be prepared, this is a nice experience if you like been around people, loud music, different smells of food, and lots and lots of people, heat, dust and walking (there are a few rest areas with benches you can sit an recoup-near the restrooms). read more
