Those are pretty far if traveling from Monroe to shop. There are a ton of empty stores or spaces for companies to come in. Very clean and bright, many of the same brands I see at Belk in South Park Mall. The only non-food court restaurant attached to the mall at this point is Red Bowl. Red Bowl is a chain and is very good - offering sushi and curry dishes. At Christmas time they have fake snow they shoot out into the main crossroads where Santa sits for pictures. So fun for the kids! The current anchor stores are Belk, JC Penneys and Sears. Inside there are not the big names you see at other malls but there are some very cute shops. There are nail salons and all the necessities you will need in a mall (including a fun shutterbooth to embarrass yourself and friends!!)

Moreover, the ease of getting in and out of the area is easy considering the two main streets it resides on within a stones throw from the highway. Obviously the anchor store or interest point is Stone Theatres Sun Valley Cinema. This facility is clean and most of the auditoriums have very up to date audio and video equipment. The movie theatre is immediately flanked by restaurants on the right and left, catering to those families that may want to grab a bite to eat after the flix. As for the kids, there's a frozen yogurt shop and moving further out, a "lego" type of store and a pet groomer. There are more restaurants of a few different cuisines as well as a tabacco shop, hotworx, bridal ware, nails, you name it. Further out, a CVS is there, more nails and restaurants including live music at a few places, fast food, spa, salon and so on. SunValley has a lot of what most families need in a very small area. The one at the southeast corner has a Target, PetSmart and some other stores. I was on the southwest corner today. This phase of the shopping center is anchored by a Harris Teeter, YMCA, Wells Fargo bank and a number of restaurants plus an animal hospital. There is a lot of real estate here making for an open plan parking area that is very well maintained and the landscaping is properly trimmed. Lots of parking. Easy access to Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road if you want to go south and Weddington Road from the west. There is a traffic light at the intersection for u-turns. Back when it was first built, I remember my parents saying it would never last. Now the whole area has been built up and my parents just love it. Most of the original stores have left or changed some how, but it basically looks the same as it did. Strip mall, broken up into different sections. Major clothing stores, knick knack places, restaurants, hotel in the middle. The faces and names have changed, some things have gotten a facelift. But it all somehow remains the same.

I was here on a Saturday morning for Costco, which in hindsight was a tactical error because on a sunny weekend this parking lot turns into pure chaos. It was the kind of morning where every lane felt like a slow‑motion near miss, and I'm honestly surprised I didn't hear at least one honk or the unmistakable crunch of someone misjudging a turn. The layout doesn't do drivers any favors. The whole plaza sits on uneven grading, so you're constantly moving between slightly higher and lower sections, and the internal lanes twist and narrow in ways that probably help keep speeds down but also make it harder to get your bearings. Finding an exit becomes its own little quest, especially when you're trying to thread your way around people circling for spots or pausing mid‑lane to decide whether they're committing to a turn. It's a classic big‑box cluster, with plenty of major anchors pulling in heavy traffic, and thankfully there are directional signs scattered around to point you toward the right corner of the property. Even so, the combination of volume, terrain, and design means you have to stay alert the entire time you're here. Once you're actually inside the stores it's fine, but navigating the exterior feels like the price of admission, and on a bright Saturday morning that price is definitely higher than you'd expect. Please note this is in a very safe part of town and relatively close to the main highway, schools and other shopping needs. The anchor tenants is obviously Harris Teeter, the southern grocery store that can service pretty much all a family needs. Along with them are long stays in terms of Jersey Mikes whom have the best subs around. There's a Chinese restaurant which is average and I'd advise finding a different option unless you don't have time to look. The corner restaurant has flipped many time as it used to be Highway 55 and is now Tickle My Ribs BBQ. I've never been to either so I can't help you there. I used to go to Integrative Chiropractic and the people there are really good. My Xwife loved Pampered Nails so ladies, go ahead and get your appointments now! Disconnected from the main complex are a few other noteworthy places. First up there's a decent Bojangles restaurant with great biscuits and a Shell gas station. The newer places that were built before I moved are Mod Pizza which does good business but I've never been, and a Shell gas station. Please note there's a Pizza Hut within the gas station, for pick up or delivery. There's also a postal store to handle your mailing needs. The other "non restaurant mainstays" are Benchmark physical therapy, Great Clips, Dr Scott's weight loss. There's also a dentist, Palm Beach Tan and Well's Fargo. Again, I never went to any of these places but they look to have regular clients. Overall, this mini shopping area is food forward area with a few ancillary shops to fill in some gaps. The important thing is it's a safe place to frequent and there's high quality in a few of the places - Harris Teeter, Integrated Chiropractic and Jersey Mikes.
