Amaya Indian Room - Chicken Tikka

We got into Barrie a bit later than expected, and we're very hungry. This place was right next to…read morethe hotel, open and still serving. And I love Indian food, so if course there was little reason to not try them. The service was a little scattered, but that's okay, it late on a Friday night. It took a little longer than I would have liked, but again I was very hungry and it was late. The food. Okay, I had the chicken Seekh kebabs. They were alright, but much sweeter than I am used to. It was kind of a surprise, and not an entirely welcome one. I also had chili paneer, because I'm a sucker for a good fusion dish. The paneer was great, but I ordered it extra spicy and it was really not. At all. It wasn't even medium. Kind of sweet, and rather passive on the heat. The biryani rice wasn't bad. But it wasn't great either. Overall it was a mid experience. I would have rated them a little higher, but the price was a bit heftier then the food that was provided. I didn't hate it, I'm glad they were open, but I won't exactly be back next time I'm in Barrie

One of the few Indian restaurants that are not closed by 9:00 pm here in Barrie…read more It's located very close to the exit 96-A of Highway 400 N. The restaurant has a pretty large seating space to avoid unintentional eavesdropping. There's adequate lighting that doesn't force the patrons to guess what is it that they are eating. Our server, forgot his name, was very welcoming and made some interesting recommendations as well. When it comes to the food, at least on the menu there are a lot of options, vegetarian and non-vegetarian, to choose from. We tried the Chicken Tikka for starters and absolutely loved it. For the mains, we ordered the Butter Chicken but felt the curry was a tad too sweet to our liking. I did feel that they were understaffed for the night and with the surge in patrons our server was overwhelmed and forgot to provide serving spoons. That being said, I am definitely gonna revisit this place to try some of the other options they offer on the menu.

Of course wasn't expecting it to be authentic but was expecting a bit of an Indian flavour Meal - butter chicken dinner Some weird yellow rice defiantly not Indian rice Butter chicken was red lacked butter or flavour Channa was ... interesting Raita - just plain yogurt Chutney - was literally just red hot sauce THIS IS MADE FOR A CANADIAN PALET defiantly not someone that enjoys flavour 17$ waste of money The naan wasn't even naan or even a pita Samosas we're ok - chutney is still so laughable no wonder the reviews aren't by Indian people :( should have gone with my gut when I saw the bad reviews from them saying it wasn't even close For a fusion place it's not even good didn't even touch on Indian food

On the highway we observed advertisement for twisted indian and so thought of trying it . Our first restaurant at Barrie was twisted Indian. We ordered veggie wrap and it's like indian burrito with lentils, yellow rice , yogurt , Chutney, Fresh veggies. They have different sauce like coconut lime, Sriacha etc which goes good with wrap and tastes really good. It's a good twist to indian food and loved the wrap. Filling and healthy.
