Here's a story for you. I'm a new rider and bought an 18 year old Harley Fat Boy from a local…read moredealership. It has a Twin Cam 88 and I've read just enough to be nervous about the engine exploding from cruddy chain tensioners. So, rather than ask the dealership that sold me the bike to tell me what's up, I began to look for an independent. So I dropped by C&T to chat, not on my bike. It turns out Brad not only knew the bike from my description, but he also worked on it in the past. Then, without me asking, he contacted the previous owner, found out the bike already had an upgrade and then called me to let me know I had zero worries. This before I spent one dollar with him yet. I think I just found my trusted mechanic. Thanks, Brad.

He tried to tell me I was past my 18 month warranty when in fact I still had 29 days left on it. Then he had to test the battery just to make sure it was dead. Dude, why would I bring the battery here if it still had juice in it? Then I tried to ask about any additional warranties for the new battery and his response to that was abrasive and rude. Never gave me eye contact and when I said Thank you and I hope you have a nice day the asshole didn't even say anything back. The first and more prevalent is the national chain store…read moreinside an instafab building staffed with indifferent employees trained to look up parts in the computer and deliver them from the back room. They do not have scarred knuckles or dirty finger nails and they most certainly do not know the difference between a limited slip differential and a Knutson valve. These places are endlessly frustrating for customers who know what they're doing. Then there are the other kinds of auto parts stores. The rare business run by competent professionals who have seen everything, turned many a wrench in anger and know exactly how to fix the rotted kickdown mechanism on your beaten-up clunkbucket. This is Hastings. Walking in, the store is large and open with a the right mix of tools, fluids, consumables and floor stock to get easier jobs done, no barrage of frou-frou garbage to shine your car tires, no tweety-bird floor mats, no bullet-hole decals. As you walk to the prominent service counter you notice a comforting odor of WD40 and engine oil, think of it as a sign. These guys get straight to the point, provide insight and help on questions you have, often everything you need in stock by a quality brand and at competitive pricing. What sends this place over the top is in the back though. There you'll find one of the most competent and speedy machine shops you'll ever have need of. Swap out some bushings? Ten minutes. New wheel bearings pressed in? Overnight. The machine shop alone is reason enough to frequent Hastings.

Just before COVID-19 hit, my husband and I traded my truck in for a JL (Jeep Wrangler Rubicon)…read more Then my husband said any girl's favorite word: accessories! So like a good wife, I made a wish list. At the top was some kind of rail mainly for our girls ages 5 and 6 to help them climb on up... The only problem was that all of my husband's searches on various aftermarket Jeep parts websites were telling him that the factory rock rails had to be removed permanently. My JL's stock rock rails are pretty bad ass. I *really* did not want to lose them to some lousy side steps. So like the determined person I am, I scoured some online Jeep forums. One in particular led me to ACE Engineering & Fab. Of course, I went straight to their website: https://aceengineeringandfab.com/ When I saw the price tag ($535 per pair), I knew my husband would be a bit taken aback, but he came around after he did his own research. The "side steps" we bought aren't actually just that. They are "Rock Sliders." They look handmade. Stout. Solid welds. PROS (some per their website) + mostly simple bolt-on installation*** + works with or without factory "Rubi Rails" + 2" steel tubing + 0.134 wall thickness + black textured powdercoat + lifetime structural warranty + well-protected during shipping + they text you the FedEx shipment number + and... Made in the USA! CONS - It takes a while for shipping. Overall, it was a very simple task for the husband to install these rock sliders. It definitely helped to have a lever bar and an air ratchet. The only hiccup was when two of the fasteners or whatever holds the nuts in place broke off as he removed the Loctited bolts. He cussed up a storm. "But you said you wanted more time in the garage," I retorted. ;)
