Seared tuna and scallops/artichoke

Fantastic food, ambiance, and friendly staff. Recommend to anyone in Brighton! The scallops and pork shoulder were my favorite. Open kitchen and friendly chefs so definitely recommend sitting at the bar area

Chef cooking the miso glaze onto our scollops.

This restaurant didn't appear on yelp when using the "around me" feature and it's rare we'll try somewhere without checking reviews first so after going in blind here, both my partner and I were pleasantly surprised with our find. Dishes are a good size, we were recommended 3-4 dishes, I ordered 4 and she ordered 3, 7 dishes total. Leaving us both completely stuffed. Our favourites were the scallops with miso and the potato knödel / cabbage dish, we were both taken aback with what the chef did with only cabbage and potato. This place only seats 24 and we were lucky to get a booking on the same day. We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen and had our plates served by the chef dishing up. Over all the night was missing something although I couldn't tell you what, possibly the fact we were slightly rushed as our booking ended at 7:30 (sat down at 6, so make sure you have a good 2 hours). Pictures speak a thousand words so you can take a look for yourselves.

Great ambience in a small setting where you can see and smell the dishes being prepared. There were 12 items on the menu so we decided to try all 12 for our party of four. We were not disappointed at all. Enjoyed every dish which were full of flavor, contrast, and many layers of yumminess! If I lived in Brighton, I would eat here everyday! It's that good! Service was great as well.

10 courses between 4, great way to eat

This place is right in the middle of the lanes of Brighton. It's small and intimate, with only a few tables and a good bar. For the 4 of us they suggested 10-12 dishes to share that they bring out steadily. Each dish was fantastic and full of flavour-our favourites were the pigeon and leek dishes. Fantastic environment and sharing makes it so much fun-perfect for couples or a close group! Would come again!

The crispy and a bit spicy scallops root as starter. Not bad. Chicken with peanut source was the day special, cod soft and tasty. Creative food served by nice staff. Recommend the dessert lemon soba

Very hit and miss. Had 6 truly brilliant dishes one evening, then went twice more and it was poor to average.

Small, cool, unassuming, and a little tucked away. Definitely one of those IYKYK restaurants. Sat at the bar and immediately knew I was in the right place. The natural wine selection is fantastic. The wine program is on point. We ordered a few things to share. The oysters were excellent, super fresh, and they had Porthilly Rocks, which is always a good sign if you know oysters. Everything that came out was just simple food done properly. Nothing overcomplicated, just really good ingredients and a kitchen that clearly knows how to cook. You can also tell this is a real culinary crowd kind of place. Not a tourist trap. The place felt abuzz with aficionados. Brighton has a number of good restaurants, but Plateau stands out. If I lived here, I'd be in this place all the time. Strong recommendation.

So many great restaurants having an affordable menu which you may not always get a chance to dine at. We dined from Plateau's autumn set menu. For starters, I opted for the cured salmon, apple, fennel and lemon. It was so delicate and fresh. The salmon, slightly salted REALLY really played with the flavours of the fennel and apple. A great light starter, my dining partners opted for the pigs head croquette, and though they said delicious, it was a lot going on. For mains, I had pumpkin risotto with walnuts and my favourite Barkham blue cheese. It was so creamy! I always feel a little miffed when the veg option is a risotto but this was very very tasty. Onto more cheese.. dessert! I went for the Spenwood and quince. Spenwood is a pressed sheep's cheese. We also ended up getting a cheeky little blackberry cheesecake as well. This was a cheesecake from heaven! Definitely recommend.

I also like to be surprised by a Creme Brûlée with a birthday candle in. The lighting is nice and low-lit, and at the end of it all the price was right (though I didn't foot the bill, thanks mate), I left feeling very happy and giggling from the sparkly stuff and Sangria. I've had my foodie little eye on Graze for some time now, and I finally got to try it out last…read morenight for my Brother's birthday. The interior is plush and apparently influenced by the Brighton Pavilion. It's quite a small restaurant and the tables can appear quite cramped. For the first half hour, we were the only customers and I could hear the staff chatting away to each other which was a bit uncomfortable, however, the restaurant quickly filled up and was soon buzzing with atmosphere. Graze offer an al la carte or tasting menu. The birthday boy had his eye on the tasting menu and as we had to order for the whole table we didn't want to disappoint. I also decided to accompany him with the wine pairing - what a kind sister I am!! The tasting menu included 7 courses, two of which included an option of two which is a nice touch. Homemade bread in four flavours was offered around repeatedly but I was conscious not to fill up too much! The first course was Jerusalem artichoke soup with smoked hazelnut creme fraiche and hazelnuts crisps. This was paired with a very dry sherry, a little unpalatable on its own, but great in combination with the soup. Second course was a chicken liver parfait with pear and star anise jelly, served with a slice of sweet brioche - rich and delicious. This was served with a sweet Hungarian Tokaji. The others went for a butternut squash option but found it was lacking a little in taste and needed added seasoning. Third up was cauliflower and truffle risotto with chestnuts and Parmesan crisp. Matched with this was a crisp viognier. Next was one of my favourite dishes - beetroot cured salmon, pickled beetroot and beetroot puree, creme fraiche and what tasted like amaretti crumbs. The salmon was so fresh and light and the flavour combinations were exquisite. This was paired with a pinot blanc. For the next course we were offered a choice between halibut and venison. We all went with the venison which was served with polenta, grey chantelles and greens. A very tasty dish served with a light pinot noir. The pre-dessert was a chilled mandarin soup with clove sorbet. Such a fantastic dish I was half way through before I realised I had forgotten to take a picture! This came with a fabulous Pedro Ximenez sherry from the Jerez region of Spain. A much sweeter and nicer sherry than the first, at least for my tastes. The final course was a pear parfait with star anise ice cream and almond crumble, this was served with a sweet dessert wine and was a fine finish to a great meal. The Chef here has Spanish roots and you can certainly feel the Mediterranean influence shining through here. The flavour combinations were great and the presentation was exquisite (somebody has been watching Masterchef!). The service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was nice. So close to a five star review, but nothing took my breath away, and a few extras such as amuse bouche would have been appreciated*. *Am I really saying there wasn't enough food here, I certainly didn't leave hungry!!

They also sell scooners (3/4 pint) of a great draft. It went down a storms and is now my new fave draft. Service was perfect. Nice and chatty but not too so, and the cream of the crop was when we had to wait a bit for desert they gave us free beers while we waited (it wasn't even that long). Only slight moan was that it did start to get very hot in there. Easy on the heating there chaps. ;0) Check it out, u won't be disappointed! Best meal I've had in years

Sometimes authenticity can get in the way of contemporary thinking but the Giggling Squid has managed to achieve an effective balance of these things. The food provides you with genuine Thai flavours whereas the décor has the relaxed vibe of a top-notch coffee house. The rustic interior enables them to diversify into Tapas without it seeming out of place. This makes for a good lunchtime deal, as you can get a set of 4 Tapas dishes for £7. However, if you'd rather stick with the Thai theme, I'd recommend the two for £5 lunch deal, which is great value for the quality. All the dishes are perfectly seasoned and the choice is such that you could visit regularly and not get bored. I'd recommend booking on weekends as it can get quite busy but for better service I'd go during the week when the fulltime staff are working. Whilst not mind blowing, this is definitely a solid restaurant. Somewhere you needn't worry about taking your family.

The 'Thai Tapas' dishes are exactly what you would expect - the same concept as Spanish tapas, with small portions that you can combine to make a meal. There is a lot more to this place than that though - main dishes are also good. I went for the standard green curry, and it would certainly give any other Thai place in this city a run for its money. They also do a lunch deal for around a fiver for 2 courses. Service could have been faster when I visited, but that might just have been bad luck.

The quality of the food is excellent, but big prices for little meals means this Thai restaurant falls a little short. Mai Ped Ped Ped (meaning Quite Hot, Very Hot) certainly lives up to its name: the food is tangy, more often falling on the overly-spicy rather than the pleasantly-hot side of the palate. Unfortunately, this is a splinter in the side of their main concept. Lots of small plates that border on too-spicy-to-eat mean that the food can't be enjoyed quickly, nor that the multitude of flavours sit well on a burning tongue. However, it's not like the whole thing falls apart: if the tapas-angle is ignored, the conventional main menu certainly has a lot going for it. I particularly recommend the Drunken Duck (duck cooked in spirits): absolutely top nosh. Everything else I've tried is very tasty, but not particularly memorable: generally, spiciness is the all-pervading flavour. If that sounds overly negative, I certainly don't mean it to: if you're a fan a spicy Thai, Mai Ped Ped Ped certainly has a lot to offer, and could not be more centrally located. It doesn't jostle too heavily with any of the other Market Square/Lanes offerings, and is a great place to start an evening: spicy often leads to much beer consumption on my part! A quick final comment: make sure you get seated upstairs. The restructured town-house ambiance of Mai Ped Ped Ped, while suitably jovial, means that the downstairs area, next to the kitchen, often gets a little humid. Be warned! UPDATE: My fiancee wanted me to add that the Thai Green Curry is the best she's ever had, and well worth the price!
