After working with general contractor Mason Carroll continuously for the last 6 months I have…read moreconcluded that he represents excellence and integrity in every aspect of job performance. I recommend him with enthusiasm and confidence. In spite of wintry weather, he has now concluded four home improvement projects which have included diverse taskings: construction of a 100 foot concrete retaining wall to include stabilization of a fence threatened by slope erosion, removal of concrete dog run and cracked concrete sidewalk, replacement and sealing of that concrete sidewalk, cleaning, repair and sealing/finishing a decorative stone porch, detection of origin of rainwater entry into the home with correction of the leakage fault, establishment of a roof/gutter water runoff drain field, surface grading and gravelling of a parking area, repair of a fractured roof truss, external door replacement, garage storage shelf installation, installation/wiring of internal and external lighting fixtures, installation of stairstep grab bars. These jobs were performed not just satisfactorily, but well beyond my expectations. I will engage him for other repairs as funds allow. I find Mr. Carroll to be a prompt and able communicator by text and phone, a good judge of whether a contemplated project could go forward, a good planner who generates conceptual drawings for load considerations, a highly detailed job estimator and calculator of volume, slope and grade, a standard good-practice contract writer, a facile and skilled workman over a broad scope of demand, a possessor/operator of required machinery and laser levelers, an engineer-artisan with a good eye for a finished appearance, a person responsible to correct inadvertent collateral damage, and a workman who is highly ordered and remarkably fastidious in cleanup. His invoices are detailed and consistent with the initial contract. I think that his pay/compensation rates for labor performed and materials utilized are fair. He is licensed and bonded. I know by now that Mr. Carroll is an honest, fair, responsible, kind, well-trained and thoughtful man with high moral standards. He represents American ideals at their finest and walks the talk. His additional helpers are also people warranting trust. He has worked very hard in my behalf, and I believe that he does the same for everybody else.

R&M General Contractor - Flooring

R&M General Contractor

Marc started our bathroom remodel in June 2022. He said it would take 2 weeks. We know things often…read moretake a little longer, but it eventually became ridiculous. We put 50% down to start and everything seemed ok at first. My husband works from home, so was the contact for the first few months. Marc's schedule varied without notice - Sometimes he was still working when I got home around 7pm, other times he wouldn't show up for a few days or even a few weeks. He kept needing advances on the balance. In October he texted to say "ok I'll be done tomorrow so I'd like to be paid the balance tomorrow" (it was just a few hundred dollars at that point). But... the bathroom was clearly a long ways from being done. There was still a big hole where the toilet pipes go into the wall, the trim was unfinished, and even where the trim was "done", it didn't cover the splintery gaps where the flooring was poorly cut. I spent a few hours cleaning the super thick sanded paint dust out of the window and off the cupboards and floor so I could see the actual condition of the bathroom. The trim was even worse than I had realized - most of it was not flush, and he filled the 1/4" or so gaps with bumpy brown goo. The (new) sink in the new countertop had the roughest sealant I've ever seen - it is going to be terrible to clean unless we scrape it out and replace it with a smoother finish (maybe using some type of tool to smooth it). I hear that a lot of contractors just use their finger to smooth it, but the back is a narrow spot to reach. The (new) cupboards had a lot of scratches that I don't think they had when they were delivered. The poorly cut metal transition piece between the flooring and the carpet outside was already bent the day after he installed it. It also wasn't wide enough to fit - I think he just used a scrap left over from another job. The new outlets weren't squared - and the walls around them were very rough; their texture didn't come close to matching the rest of the walls. The outlets were also partially plugged with mud or spray texture. The tiles above the sink were chipped and rough. I thought there was paint splattered all over the cupboards, but it turns out it was just spray texture that he hadn't yet cleaned up (remember "I'm going to be done tomorrow so expect to be paid in full"...). So after I did my scrubbing, I post-it'd the worst issues, and because my husband was so annoyed at the condition after 4+ months of work, I took over as the contact. This apparently made Marc angry because it limited him to working on my days off (Thursdays, Fridays and if he wanted, Saturdays). Sometimes his girlfriend came over to help, and she did a much better job cutting the trim - I wish she had measured and cut the flooring at the beginning of the job, too. I think she's the "R" in the "R&M" so if we'd known that to begin with, we might have been able to just hire her instead. Sometimes we unexpectedly had to babysit his kid, both before and after I took over, so he could work on a day that his school district had off. Starting Thanksgiving, I had mandatory OT at work and only had Saturdays off. When I took over in October I didn't expect this to be a problem because after all, he originally said it was only a 2 week job and in October when I took over, he was going "to be done tomorrow". But sadly, he was still a long ways away from being done at this point. I mean, the bathroom had a functional sink and toilet, so that was a plus, but one cupboard door had a stripped screw that he never fixed, the walls weren't yet painted or fully textured (it's super thick spray texture from a can, which I've never heard of before), and we had a mish-mash of trim colors and styles. And weird thick brown goo to help the trim corners (sorta) mesh. Around the 1st of the year he said he'd be back after the current round of spray texture dried... and he packed his tools and never came back. We're left with unfinished trim, weird irregularly textured walls, and the messiest sealant around a sink that I've ever seen. I'm fine with painting (I can do that) but it would be nice if he'd finished the other stuff that I don't know how to do, and don't have the tools for. He never insisted on the last few hundred dollars but there is a lot more than a few hundred dollars worth of work left to do. We actually want him to come back and finish it right, using his theoretical 20+ years of skills and tools, but he stopped replying to our requests regarding when he'd be back, and sadly, I don't think he has the tools or skills to decently finish the job.

Let me start out by saying that my encounter with this company started out a little rocky. Lol, …read more After meeting with Robert about getting some stones placed he was very accommodating. He doesn't usually do this type of work according to his wife, but since the location was so close to his yard they agreed to place 4 stones to accent/border my yard. I picked um out and marked them. He showed up promptly Saturday morning and put them right where I wanted them even micro adjusting them to my specific liking, . Fantastic service. Not many people do that anymore, it's a good trait. Good pricing also. Keep up the great work bro. If I need bigger ones, I'll call you again. I highly recommend this company. ****6/20/23****MAD!!! UPDATE. Let me start out by saying my experience with the owner was fantastic easily likable guy with a great attitude. Took care of business professionally the way it should be done. Over the course of this job I've called them 7 times according to my phone call logs. Marcella has actually CALLED ME BACK 1 TIME OUT OF 7, THAT'S 14%. Not very good. This last time i called and spoke with her June 10th@2:53pm. She said I'll call you back Monday the 12th. At about 430pm I called and after not being called back and she said sorry I didn't get a chance to talk with him, I'll call you at noon Tuesday the 13th. It's now Tuesday the 20th and of course still nothing. I messaged her on Facebook and she had the never to say I never gave you a time id call you back. I write everything down so I don't make mistakes. I also don't like people who are dishonest. Just say your sorry and do better. Don't keep blowing me off. My word is my bond. I'm old school. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY DUE TO LACK OF COMMUNICATION. The guy is fantastic but his wife's communication skills are terrible.

If there were negative stars I would give them all. This is…read moreby far the WORST experience I have ever had with a "contractor ". Paid him to remove some structures on my property. I told him only rock, concrete and wood ash is allowed to be buried. "Oh yes of course we would never put anything else in the ground, we will take it all out to the recycling and transfer station". At first I thought he only did a terrible job cleaning up the job site!... until we started excavating for the foundation for our new house a few months later... My contractor called me and was very upset! He sent me pictures of all the garbage they found while excavating! It was horrific, seems like Brownscape just bulldozed the structures and pushed them in the existing hole where the foundation of the old house was. They just took a minimal amount to the transfer station and left insulation, plastic tarps, house wiring, wood structures, carpet, hoses, parts of the fridge and concrete and in the hole and covered it up with a few inches of dirt. After confronting him on the phone, he insulted me and called my ever name under the sun and told me that it was my fault that I wanted to build the new house in the same location as the old house.... I have talked to a few contractors about the incident and everybody agrees that what Brownscape did, is not common practice. If you need stuff done around your property and want a complete disaster and extra cost to clean up the mess, hire Brownscape, if you want it done right, then please don't.
