Babyyyy, if you're looking for a hidden gem, THIS IS IT! This was my first time in the area, and I…read moreonly came to try this place out. When I say I have no regrets, I mean just that! Well I must admit there is one regret...the regret that I didn't try them sooner! I've legit been missing out on bites of happiness! You walk in to a gorgeous sparking restaurant. It seems one side focuses on to go orders then there's a large sitting area for dine in. The restaurant is spotless, and so are the bathrooms! The older gentlemen that assisted our table was a complete seeetheart! Extremely personable and present...we definitely got the southern hospitality. The food! The food is spectacular! I didn't have to add anything additional to my food, which is surprising. The food is seasoned and cooked to perfection. We tried a little of everything. The hushpuppies were the best hushpuppies of my life! They're crispy on the outside yet melt in your mouth... it's not your typical cornbread hushpuppies; this stuff has FLAVOR! The fried shrimp was spectacular...I even ate the tail. The roasted sweet potatoes made me close my eyes and just hum. The jerk snapper- never had anything like it in my life, but I know I want some more! Also tried the fried snapper, oysters and and whiting- they didn't disappoint! You're not in the south if you don't have fried green tomatoes, right? We received complimentary fried green tomatoes...best I've ever had! They had sort of sauce on them that just took it to the next level. I also had to try the cake after I heard the owner's mom makes them personally. If you had the food, you understand why I had to try the dessert. I mean the chef had to get his skills from somewhere, right? Honeyyyyyy just like everything else, the taste of the cake corresponded with the rest of my experience! 10/10! Did I mention, the bathroom was also CLEAN! If you're in the area, try this place. If you're not in the area, try this place! I took the drive and boy I'm glad I did!

I've learned tonight that I DO NOT. It smelled so bad I could barely eat it. Eventually gave up. The hushpuppies were the best I've ever eaten!!!

Everything was absolutely delicious! Even though the place was packed, the service was friendly, efficient, and attentive. Visiting from Massachusetts, I expected the prices to be a little lower than what I'm used to, but they were even better than I anticipated. Definitely worth a visit--I can't wait to come back!

The dishes are packed with flavor, clearly made with quality local ingredients, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the level of creativity coming out of the kitchen. The staff is consistently warm and attentive, making you feel like you've been coming there for years. They do take reservations, which is great for bigger groups (anything over six), and even when there's a wait, it moves fast. Never long enough to be a hassle. One of the things I love most is their daily special. The rotating menu keeps things interesting, and you can tell the chefs put real thought into crafting something unique each day! If you're searching for a place that blends comfort with standout, big‑city flavors and quality food, Workshop Tavern is the spot! Truly the best restaurant in the area!

However, if you need to eat gluten-free due to a medical condition like Celiac disease, please be very, very cautious. Although this establishment claims to offer gluten-free options, there seems to be a concerning lack of understanding of what "gluten-free" actually requires. I asked detailed questions before ordering and was assured that my selection was safe. After the food arrived--and after I had already started eating--I was then informed that while the crepe itself was gluten-free, the filling was not. That kind of distinction should be clearly communicated upfront, especially when a customer specifically asks about gluten-free options. Unfortunately, the same situation happened with my daughter, who also has celiac. To make matters worse, we were charged for both the incorrect meals and the replacements. In hindsight, I should have asked for a manager, but we were there to visit with a friend and I didn't want to make a scene. Our total for three people ended up being over $80 with the tip I still left. I understand that eating out always carries risk when you have dietary restrictions, and I ALWAYS try to approach it with patience and kindness. We were traveling, so we didn't have much choice. But if a restaurant says they offer gluten-free items, there needs to be a basic understanding (by the wait staff AND the kitchen cooks) of ingredients and clear communication. What should have been a fun outing turned into a weekend of being very sick. Just something to be aware of if you have to eat gluten-free for health reasons - this is probably not the spot for you.

Talked a bit with another Employee and was suggested a new one he has never had. He loved it. I chose a new Cab Sav. to try, bought a bottle to bring home. Great atmosphere! Nice to know you can buy a bottle in the store & pop it open in the bar area. They have outdoor seating!!! I did skim through the Cab Sav aisle & was pleased to see some of my fav's at a cheaper price than my local grocery store! Plus, a few I've never seen and plan to try. It's an odd note to bring up, but I've got to mention that the locals at this location aren't all inviting to visitors. Just expect a different vibe than you expect in the Triangle, Southern Pines is a very country, small town place.
