I stopped in for the 1st time, decided on 2 entrees and 1 side. Thought food looked decent however, when I sat down took a bite of the low mein noodles and they didn't have any flavor, then I tried the Mushroom beef and the Chicken Lo mein and both had so much salt that I basically picked at it, took like 10 bites and threw it all in the trash. We visited the restaurant on Saturday evening; there were three in our dinner party. We ordered two waters and a Sprite along with buffets. While we were all at the buffet line getting our plates, the server delivered our drinks: two waters and an iced tea. I scooted the tea to the edge of the table in the hopes of getting our server's attention in the matter. The other two shared one water and finished their plates, returning to the food bar and I excused myself to the restroom after eating only a small amount from my plate. When I returned to the table, I found the server had taken my food away and already brought the check ...and the tea was still balanced near the edge of the table. We just decided it was hopeless to get the server's attention in the matter of this wrong drink, and would tell the cashier when we checked out. When I told the cashier that one drink needed to be removed (She obviously did not have a good grasp of the English language), she left us standing there while she went to speak to the server who was already busing our table. The server must have told the hostess that she had brought us a refill of iced tea as well as the Sprite and water. I asked the lady if she would check the two waters on the table because they were in fact only water... no Sprite and no refill had ever been brought to us. No one in our dinner party drinks tea so it had sat there untouched throughout the meal. They refused to take the tea off of our bill even though they knew the server's response did not match the items on our table. We have eaten here several times and I will absolutely not return. I do not appreciate being penalized because an incompetent server cannot get three drinks correct. After all, it was a buffet line and all she had to do was deliver our beverages. How difficult can that be? Also, not once was I asked, "how was your meal?" "Is everything okay?" or "Will there be anything else?" NEVER returning and WILL NOT recommend to others. You would be much better off to visit Colton's Steak House, Applebee's, Tios or another local restaurant with a better reputation. read more

Perhaps the worst sushi I've ever had - the rest of the buffet is decent and pretty standard for a Chinese buffet. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired. You NEVER gonna find REAL chinese food in Poplar Bluff. Its not that there are no asians here... cause there are... its just that there's no market here for the REAL stuff. They have a pretty good sized buffet and the staff are friendly. Unfortunately the food quality leaves a lot to be desired. The General Tso's chicken was sweet with little/no seasoning. General Tso's should be spicy. Not sweet. And a lot of the food was cold. Not even warm. More like room temperature. If the health department had visited this place, the entire buffet would likely have been closed. It wasn't cheap either. Overall, I can get much better elsewhere. Can I give a negative star. We used to eat this place regular. They recently remodeled and reopened. First I don't usually complain but their food is now awful. It all tastes bland. They took away orange chicken which was one of their best dishes. I also wonder how a Chinese restaurant messes up egg drop soup it was bad too. This is a fairly typical Chinese style buffet but they do have a menu that present more dishes than what you see on the buffet. The buffet has a lot of variety but I think the more authentic dishes are on the menu. From the buffet, I really like the crab Rangoon, pot stickers, egg and spring rolls and hot & sour soup. The noodles and fried rice are also good. The rest of the buffet contains popular selection that are batter fried but the also have some good stir fries that have actual fresh vegetables so you can make healthy choices. On the menu we like to order the mo shu pork which I probably spelled wrong but is really excellent. Prices are good and take out portions are generous enough to make two meals which makes it even more economical. Wish they delivered to Ellsinore! read more

Have eaten most of their buffet and not bad, but in all my years of fried rice theirs with out a doubt in my mind hands down is absolutely the worst I have ever tasted. Horrible white with no color or flavor. Not fit for a dog. If you love the rice save your taste buds go some where else, but if you dont plan on consuming rice then by all means visit. Ok, well I've been to 38 states and 13 countries during my life. I'm a semi-plump person and like good food. Although yes some of the dishes at 5-star are perhaps a bit too sweet when they should be a bit hotter or more spicy, the overall food buffet is appealing with 80 or so choices not including the side bar of fruits, puddings, etc. I've eaten there probably 30 to 40 times and have tried every other place in Poplar Bluff and Dexter. There are no other places even close to as good overall, so I don't understand where people say there are, because there simply are not. This is your best choice in town for the selection, the seating, and for what you pay which is low; so once again any comments on here saying "it's too high"..I guess they want free food because you cant get this size and variety of buffet for less anywhere. I've lived in St. Louis, Memphis, and a few other places in this country. There will always be people wanting more product and service for less money; but honestly the food here is tasty for the most part. They generally keep the bar full if its anywhere near normal meal times; so yeah if you show up at 3:45pm then no you won't get a full lunch bar or a full dinner bar because you showed up in the middle time frame, but I've even eaten here during that time frame and it was acceptable. No, not all the staff is completely English fluent but overall if you need a refill you can get it. You might hafta wave your hand..oh I hope you don't hurt yourself lifting your arm (no they dont rub your feet and kiss your heiney for a 10 dollar buffet, so get over yourselves). Anyhow, I'll keep going there and as a matter of fact I intend to take my family from out of town there tomorrow. They've all been there before and all love to go there when they visit. I know my parents liked to go there and generally they have a fairly full restaurant during most of my visits..........sooooo I guess they'll be around a while since a large number of people seem to keep filling up their seats. Someone mentioned the "China Garden", which i find hilarious, because that place is one of the worst i've been to and doesn't even come close to the overall value you get at 5-Star. This was the absolute worst part of my trip from Jackson to poplar bluff, and there was a point where my cousin accidentally shoved 47 dildos up my but, and this was worse. If you're looking for a place to eat in poplar bluff, don't eat here. It's kinda shitty that you have to leave a tip before you eat because I left a pretty good tip and the service was shit. I honestly wish I could leave zero stars. It's pretty bad when the best part of a Chinese restaurant is the ice cream, wich I had to have vanilla because the chocolate was "broken" my waitress dropped my food on the flirt as she was cleaning it so I smirked and then when she brought us our fortune cookies she acted pissed and practically threw the fortune cookies at us. The buffet was terrible, and we asked them to put out new food, the did, but it ended up just being a whole new bunch of shit. Please don't give this place your money. read more
