We've been coming here for many years. Great atmosphere. The shape of the interior doesn't distribute sound well, but it's a bar. The cocktails on tap are surprisingly good. Hot dogs are usually great, though sometimes they arrive cold. So why the 1 star? The bartender. You might know the one. He's unpredictable. He might even run the place. He sure acts like it. One day, he's giving us a demonstration on how he mixes drinks. The next day, he's a f***ing a**h*** out of nowhere because I didn't order my food and drink in the right order. Hey, treat me like sh** if I'm rude to you - go off. But if I'm polite? F*** off. He's an indispensable part of the place and he's not going anywhere, so this decision is easy. Never coming back. I love this bar. I love the atmosphere. I love the drinks. The food is great for bar food, but man, the service and the bartenders can really be hit or miss in terms of friendliness. It's kind of anxiety inducing to even approach them. There's probably one bartender there that's nice. I really wish that they would hire some better people because it's enough to make me and my friends not go there anymore. And I don't know if the same blonde manager is still there, but she is incredibly rude and unprofessional. read more

I love the drinks at the 5 & Dime. Am I crushed that they took deviled eggs off the menu? Absolutely. Will I still go? Yes. You know what I love, almost as much as the awesome interior and the portrait of Anthony Bourdain by Ben Hucke? How awesome the bartenders are. I will never again walk into a place and think, damn, I look good! I am a nerd who brings books to bars (and everywhere else for that matter). Never, from the busiest day to the slowest, do they not treat me well. One star off because when I asked for a drink that was less sweet and included vodka, the bartender seemed unable to improvise. Dropped by at the recent Foster festival. Great service and tasty slushie, perfect on a hot day! They were kind enough to let me sample the mushroom pate regularly served with the bahn mi hot dog, absolutely delicious! Will be back for the whole dog experience (and to try to talk them into making the pate into an appetizer). read more

We used to love this place. I think it's still cute, but unfortunately the cocktails are no longer balanced, the service is sub par and borderline rude and the environment seems to be going down hill quick. It's becoming more of a dive and less of a nice cocktail spot. If I accept it as a dive, I think I'll be more keen to return. read more

Grabbed some goodies with the family and they never disappoint. On point every time! We got the Clover Club, Mai Tai, Shirley Temple, Coney Dog, and another one that I of course can't remember but it had bacon, guacamole, garlic mayo, and lots of other delicious condiments. The place is amazing, super cute and comfortable inside and outside. Minors are allowed up to a certain time which is great since I have two littles. Staff is super nice, helpful and talented. Favorite bar in Portland! There's a reason we all make an excuse to stop here whenever we're cruising up Foster. Top tier cocktails and the food is ridiculously good. The chef (yes there is actual crafted and well thought out food here) makes a killer hotdog but the real show is on Sunday for their dinner series. Service is old school Portland, step right up and don't get salty if the bartender serves the regular their second drink first. Be cool and tip well and they'll treat you with the same love. read more

Happy to have this place renovate a once dilapidated building into an art deco inspired cocktail bar. The food was small, artisan style plates but absolutely delicious. We ended up ordering another round of plates to try more. We loved the wagyu skewers and the shrimp. Get em! The cocktail menu lists many classics with a few twists and unique creations. I loved the little touches like the leather menu holders that had pages like a notebook and the sketched portrait of Anthony Bourdain on the wall. Cushy bar stools around the bar, a few tables and a few horseshoe booths. I love the vibe and look.The bar staff was OK but could have been more personable. This place is awesome if you like muddy dogs jumping on you when you walk in the door, and bad reggae music played way too loud. Not sure why they are so set on violating my ears with the music and the health code with the dogs. To their credit they do make good hot dogs, which I think come from Atlas next door. read more

Lol this place is just hilarious. My boyfriend and I came to eat at Atlas Pizza. We got a table here so we could have drinks with the pizza. Table was never wiped down prior to us sitting there. Waitress takes our drink order and comes back with our drinks. We ask for water and she tells us there is a water station and then goes and talks to her friends table. Tf does a place have a waitress for if they can't get you water? Because of this we didn't tip. Sorry but like tf did you do OTHER THAN YOUR JOB that you get paid hourly for??? It would be one thing if she was swamped but she went and chatted with her friends. Then as we were leaving she told her friends we didn't leave a tip and they flipped us off on the way out. My favorite outdoor seating area in SE Portland, and also a great place to see local bands like The Wild Jumps play events like the Valentine's Day Bang-a-thon, whenever live music exists. They have a nice variety of beers on the menu, but going off-menu can be hit or miss because when I ordered a Schlitz cocktail they said they did not have Schlitz or whipped cream. I'm a local FoPo resident and I am super excited about this place! The decor inside is really nice, it has a swanky almost clubby vibe. This leads me to some feedback for the owners: We came in yesterday around 5 for HH. Our group was 26-29 year olds, and the music was too loud for us to talk, reminded me of club music. Maybe don't start playing that loud until 8-9? I also think you should have staff on the floor and not just bar service, as the line to get a drink was kind of long. Good prices for great cocktails! Although the internet was down in the store (ie, can't run credit/debit cards) when my group arrived, the bartender was extremely apologetic and mentioned the option to get cash from the Plaid Pantry across the street, since he could not be sure when the internet connection issue would be resolved. Not his fault; he was earnestly sorry and the issue was out of his control, so we got cash and came back. The issue was fixed shortly after we returned anyways, but whatever! We tried the margarita, old fashioned, tap rose, scallop skewer, shrimp skewer and the beet and orange salad. All items were delicious and relatively inexpensive; I'll definitely be back to sample more drinks and try some of the cheese and meat boards they have. Also, the decor on the inside is gorgeous; dark with pops of emerald green and gold and beautiful chairs at the bar. Plus, it seems like a solid place to watch a Blazer game and get a little tipsy or to have happy hour with friends. Something is wrong with this place.... Some context: I am not an out-and-out hipster, but I dress pretty well, have gauges / tattoos, and an ok haircut. The friend I met here runs a garage and is NOT a hipster in any way. He does not dress poorly, but regular jeans, jacket (both clean this night) and haircut..normal blue collar guy who works for a living and looks like it. This will become relevant, I promise. Read about this place on Eater, wanted to check it out. Decided to meet my aforementioned friend there for a drink after work. I got there first and did not have an issue walking up to the bar and getting a drink and food order in. Was not very crowded at the time and the bar was not full. Liquor selection is fine, not great. The bartender was a little standoffish, but whatever. Liquor in hand and food order in, I was happy enough. Sat down and waited for my friend, food came (meat board with cheese) and it was...fine, also not great. Friend arrived, rolled his eyes at how "hipster" the place was because that is just how he is, but went on his way to order a drink at the bar. Comes back ~5 minutes later and says he was ignored by the staff! They looked him in the eyes a few times, moved on to do menial things like break 20s for someone else, and, apparently, refuse to serve him. We end up leaving and rolling down to BarCarlo instead and had a great time. Server there mentioned that they have been hearing similar stories about this place since it opened, and their business has been up because of it. May just be new place jitters, may just be surly first round of staff...not sure. But this plus the meh liquor selection and food means two stars for now. Bummer, was hoping for more. read more

Drinks were fine, but this place has an underperforming sound system, poor acoustics, and an awkward layout. Which is to say, they turn the music up loud and it sounds bad no matter where you sit. The bartenders started inattentive and evolved into downright rude. This one bartender literally made a joke out of how to pronounce my last name--what a muppet. Would be a great place to take someone you want to get a poor impression of Portland. read more

They ARE open! Drove by and was surprised to see it was quite busy, loud music... it's quite a happening place. Lots of outdoor seating, too. Excellent old fashioned. The 5 & Dime is an awesome new bar! I really love how bright and open the space is, while still feeling cozy. Drinks are always killer - how could anyone say no to a slushee? And the food is awesome - small bites so you can order a few things or get pizza from next door. A really great option if you are hosting a large group, they have a few standing tables and a few big booths. read more

Great place to add to the neighborhood. My neighbor and I swung in and had drinks while we waited for our to-go order at atlas. I got the LowKey cocktail and it was divine. Really, will be thinking about that honey elixir for nights to come. The bar itself is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship and I'm thrilled they didn't tear the place down and instead worked with what they had. I was worried about the clientele being too hipster or too clubby or whatever - I was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt (granted it was 5:30) and I didn't feel like I didn't belong. read more

I really was so excited for a fancy cocktail bar in FOPO but drinks are not good- they are way too sweet! I have been a few times and I just don't like how they make drinks. Last time I went I ordered a Mai Thai and it literally was a milky brown color and tasted like straight sugar water and the bartenders do not come off that friendly so I left the drink and haven't been back. Cute place. Me with a friend here. Some things to note: if you plan to talk, don't expect to sit inside the music was too loud for conversation. With face masks, I couldn't hear anyone, even with raised voice. The drinks were very good and they had a community water station outside the front door. It sort of sucks there's nowhere to sit outside where people aren't smoking. Between car exhaust on the main road and chain smoking groups, my throat was pretty sore. Also, not sure what the deal was but between sirens and insanely loud mufflers on cars and motorcycles, outside was almost at noisy as inside. In all, while the vibe and drinks were good, the inability to hold conversation inside and the inability to breathe (and often, inability to hear) outside, make this not a place for me. It would be super nice if they made the small side street sitting area non-smoking for those who don't want to be inundated with smoke. read more
