Nice Mom and Pa shop with a surprise. Old school comfort food, a place where old famers hang out in the morning. Service is friendly and always moving. I have had omelets here twice and both time I got too much to finish. Decent prices. The surprise is the have game nights 4 times a week. This is a great out of the way breakfast place. Friendly staff family run, very very inexpensive good food. At night they open up the place as a gameboard place for kids to come to and hang out and stay out of trouble. Could use new chairs, but at these prices I would sit on a crate. read more

We came here on Monday morning and I could tell right off it's a small town diner where all the locals go. Breakfast was what we came for and what we got! It was delicious and tasted just like I made it myself I always say that every restaurant has its good and bad days, this was a good one for us. I will return to see what's for dinner. S. L. O. W. I came in at 7:25 AM with two colleagues. It took 45 minutes to get: Cheese Omelette with hash browns 4 eggs over medium with bacon and sausage Two eggs over medium with ham and hash browns The omelette was runny. The potatoes were cold. Eggs were cold. Ham was good (hence the one star) The service was atrocious. When I checked on the extended delay, the kind server said they cook food one table at a time. Yet, locals who came in after us got their food before us. There is a round table where local men gather to talk. They were surprisingly rude. (We were in town for business and were dressed in suits.) They scoffed, "you ought to give up your PHD and get to work" "Somebody must be carry guns" "You must be FBI" and the ugliest was "travel safely once you get to the city limits." We acknowledged the men when we entered. We didn't speak otherwise, yet, they were unkind without provocation. Skip this place at all costs. The other four star reviews can in no way reflect the restaurant I visited. I will NEVER darken the door of this horrible place. You should just go to the nearby McDonalds. read more

This place is so interesting. Diner for breakfast & lunch, then game shop in the evening. The food and service are both great. Prices very reasonable. The chef is a rare one who knows exactly how to cook eggs (order them medium & actually get them medium!) and makes hash browns by shredding fresh potatoes over the grill. Yum!! They make you feel welcome, whether a local or just passing through. Highly recommended. read more

Check the dates of the previous reviews as it sounds like this USED to be a great place to eat. The food was beyond terrible, the place was dirty, and the waitress was eating and licking her fingers behind the counter. I like food! But I could not get past the first couple of bites and left feeling like I needed a shower. Just wanted to save someone else from losing their money...and appetite. The positive? My father would have called this place a "joint". I call it an "experience". The menu changes hourly, and is written on a sheet of paper torn out of a three-hole notebook. I had their homemade salmon patties (nice), American fries (good), corn (out of a can), and a piece of their fruit cocktail cake (excellent) - all for less than 7 bucks. read more

The only diner within a hundred miles that's worth it's weight. The food is excellent here, particularly the breakfast menu. I always get the Harold and am always impressed with the rich taste and simplified menu. Nothing spells disaster quite like a diner with a ten page menu. They know what they make well and they execute it perfectly every time. It's not expensive to dine here either, and the food is better than the price they charge you for it. Decor is a little strange, varied to say the least. Posters of eagles decorate the walls and I believe they also dabble in skateboard sale now. Honestly though, if you're dining for the aesthetics, then I don't quite understand your mentality on food. Seriously, eat here. This is a little "hole in the wall" near the freeway. I was given a recommendation by the gas station attendant. We were so impressed! The corn beef hash is wonderful! The ham is hand cut and so tasty. It's a small little place with great food. The waitress was very friendly and helpful with our questions about travel. I would definitely stop here again, if I'm in the area again. We're from CA and thought the food was great! read more

Don't judge this book by its cover There's not much in between St Louis and Cedar Rapids. That's including Keokuk. But we thought we would try this place out. Pulled up and we thought we had made a mistake. The outside looks a little sad. One of the guys with us came in after us and couldn't find it. He didn't realize but he was standing right in front. The inside of the restaurant was a little run down and quiet...just like the town. Our waitress comes confidently walking from the back. She's not your typical small town waitress. She's got an attitude, but it's really charming. She gives us menus and we start to order. First thing she says is "Please don't get the full stack of pancakes. You can't finish it." Sounded like a challenge but she seemed like she knew what she was talking about. We all ordered. The coffee was good diner coffee. Exactly what I wanted that morning. I ordered a pretty regular breakfast plate. I added the ham because she said it was really good. It was really good ham! Almost like a ham steak. Thick and juicy and salty but not too salty. Cale and Max got the pancakes. She was right. There's no way a normal human could finish 3 of them. They are huge! As big as the plate. And dense too. I tasted a bite and it was delicious. Almost had a vanilla taste to it. Surprisingly good for being that big. We ended up loving this place. read more
