Ok,so this is the second year my kid is in this school. When…read morewe we're looking for a preschool for our toddler we initially wanted a Montessori as it was highly recommended by few friends.Anyway the school was already booked for the next year. We did a tour and liked a school, and we were pretty satisfied with a year our two year old completed here. We decided to continue, but this year is a different story. Actually a friend of mine whose kid was in different class, pulled her kid before this school year, pointing out that school has some issues. I don't know if that's because the director changed or the school run out of money, but activities became so limited. Most of the days kids just doing coloring and painting, not much of diverse materials are used even though you pay for it.Last year was much better regarding this.Curriculum missing some creativity. This year there have been zero field trips even though they were promised. Instead of taking kids to a museum tour as a field trip, they invite you(it's optional activity)to bring your kids on the weekend for a museum tour and charge you like 60$ per ticket.Ridiculous. Christmas party that was planned for a while was basically a bounce house. Other important thing, they are short on staff. The pictures of daily kids activities are posted on the app not very often. For that I don't blame the teacher(my kid teacher is great by the way, knowledgeable, passionate and caring and we really like her),but she is by herself most of the times so obviously can't do everything. On the good note, the school is very clean, super safe, everyone is friendly, the atmosphere is great, front desk ladies are amazing, very communicative and always there for any questions, ready to help you out with a smile. My kid's teacher is amazing as well, she pours all of her heart in care for the children. So to conclude they should invest more (financially and academically)to make a better experience for the children.

If you want the best for your kid, then this is the daycare for you…read more We have a 4 year old and a 2 year old at Champs, so we have become familiar with their different classrooms and teachers in the year or so we've been there. I don't want to knock the other daycares in Brickell because they are fine, we toured them all and even had the 4 year old in one for a while, but Champs is absolutely on a league of its own. The first thing I'd like to mention is that Champs will give your little one the most important thing they need in their lives at an early age, lots of love and affection. The teachers at Champs have become family to us, at this point it feels like I'm dropping off my kids at grandma's house where a team of loving aunts are waiting to pour affection on them while my wife and I are at work. Ms. Isabel does a fantastic job running the school, she's on top of absolutely everything, she's kind, thoughtful, prepared, hands-on, and intimately familiar with every child like they are her own. She's also constantly updating us and sharing pictures through the Dojo app. Ms. Cuca has been amazing at showering the girls with love and distraction those tough mornings when they are sad to stay at school. Ms. Ana, Ms. Yeni, Ms. Carmen, Ms. Lisandra, and Ms. Maria are spoken about in our home the way we speak about family, we are incredibly grateful to this fantastic team for taking care of the two most important things in our lives all day, we drop off our girls every morning with peace of mind that they are in the best possible place they can be outside our home. Both our girls have also thrived in their development, regularly my wife and I notice and are impressed with the new skills they are learning and we give all the credit to this wonderful team. Our four year old has been able to write her own name for almost a year now, she can identify the first letter of any word she's given, as well as write any word we spell for her. Our two year old is communicating at least 6 months ahead of her age, and both girls have developed wonderful social skills and manners, showing lots of care for others, sharing, and love being helpful and kind to others. We also love that Champs doesn't use screens to distract your children, instead they play music, read, go to the playground, do Yoga, and other activities all day. One thing you might find off-putting is that they have one (and sometimes two) teacher planning days a month on average, while this may seem inconvenient at first for us working parents because we have to find care for our kids that day, they are actually a blessing. They use these days really well, our kids are constantly doing really fun, educational activities, they decorate for the different seasons and holidays, and a lot of the activities are holiday-themed. The teachers all seem very happy as well, one of the biggest issues we had with other daycares is that our daughter kept getting new teachers every 4-6 months because the turnover was ridiculous. At Champs, all but one of the teachers has been there for years and years, that speaks volumes about about how they are treated, and I cannot stress enough how important this stability is for children. There is nothing worse than when your kid bonds with a teacher and they are suddenly gone from their lives because they switched jobs. We also have become good friends with some of the parents at Champs, we'll sometimes have dinner together after picking up our kids, or we'll hang out on the weekends. Miami is not great at promoting a sense of community like you get in smaller towns, but Champs has provided that for us. I really cannot recommend Champs enough to every parent, our kids are there because friends we trusted recommended it, and in the year+ we've been there two other friends have also put their kids there on our recommendation. It's one of those places that you know is a loving, welcoming, special place as soon as you walk in.

The historic marker was erected by the Class of 1964 in cooperation with the Historical Association of Southern Florida. Dr. Laura Cushman moved from Iowa to Miami in the early 1900s. After becoming an accomplished teacher in the county school system, she decided to open The Cushman School on the front porch of her home in 1924 with just 12 students. In 1926 the school moved into the Mediterranean Revival building designed by Russell Skipton that is still used today. The classrooms were arranged to ger the breeze from Biscayne Bay. Windows were added to the school that came from the Royal Palm Hotel in downtown Miami. The school bell on the roof of the main building is the same plantation bell that was used to call the construction workers to Villa Vizcaya. Today the campus is a mixture of the historic buildings and new ones and the high school building is a few blocks south on Biscayne Boulevard. Dr. Cushman served as principal of the school for 52 years. She wanted the children who attended the school to not only be good scholars but also good citizens with the character traits of industry, responsibility, reliability, courtesy, honesty and integrity. In 1992 the United States Department of Education named The Cushman School as a National School of Excellence. Today, the school consists of a mix of historic and new buildings spread across a beautifully landscaped campus in a historic pocket of Miami. The high school building is a few blocks south on Biscayne Boulevard. As a fellow educator I loved learning about Dr. Cushman's educational philosophy which positively influences the development of the child but with all of the data input and test taking that goes on in schools today, is not emphasized enough in the public school system. How refreshing to see that there is a school developing tools and educational programs that help children reach their highest potential while still promoting social responsibility. All of that comes at a steep price however as tuition ranges from $33,000 to $43,000 a year at The Cushman School.

Miami was definitely missing an Amber Antonelli (the wonderful chef)!! If you're looking to escape your every day life in a home that has the best energy, relaxing ambiance, and AMAZING fresh food, definitely try out one of her classes. I swear I don't even feel like I'm in Miami when I am at her house (where the classes are held). From the moment you walk in through the door, you are greeted as if you have been friends forever. Amber definitely has the personality to teach these classes - she makes you feel comfortable, very personable, and she's EXTREMELY knowledgeable about everything she makes and all the ingredients she uses. She will take the time to explain why she is using a specific ingredient and will list the health benefits (i.e. coconut oil). Everyone is given the menu for the evening along with the recipes to every dish & the upcoming class schedule. You are also provided a pen to write down any notes and/or tips that will help you out when making the dish on your own. With around 10 people per class, the conversation flows very well & you learn so much from your new friends! Some of my favorite classes are the "Healthy Mexicana Flair, Ole!" and both "Thai Food Demystified" and "Thai 2" but she has classes that fit any palette: Italian, Vegan & Gluten Free, Kids Classes, Weeknight Meals, Vitamix Classes, the list goes on!! I would highly recommend The Naked Bite to both beginners (those who don't know how to cook at all) and experienced chefs. This is usually the range of people that surround the table at the classes & it's definitely nice to see both extremes learning so much from Amber. If you're not interested in the cooking classes but are in need of a "stay-cation", she has an underground dinner club where everything about the dinner is kept a secret until the day before! If that's not your thing and you just want to eat healthy, amazing food, look into her catering! Whatever you choose, I promise that any experience at The Naked Bite will be an unforgettable one. Definitely five stars!

I've been thinking of taking the WSET exam to get some more solid knowledge of wine, and after comparing different places offering the course as well as online options, I decide to take the class here. Located in the SunTrust building, the academy is easily accessible and there's garage as well as street parking around. The class is a small in size so it's good for sharing experience and opinions. Alessandra is readily available to answer questions during and after class, and she gives useful tips in preparing for the exam. The course really helped me in calibrating my palate to the WSET standard, as well as broadening my horizon and introducing me to less common wines, such as Hungarian tokaji and Australian riesling. In the end, I felt that regardless of whether I pass the exam or not, the course was totally worthwhile, because it has given me a lot of knowledge and the tool to better appreciate wine.

What an incredible time I had yesterday at the Florida Wine Academy for my Wine Class…read more I have so many reasons to go back, from the impeccable place, inside and outside, to the wonderful and well-prepared class, directed by Ms. Nicole. She emailed us, two days before, and asked us if we have any food allergies since they will provide some snacks to pair with the wines. She also gave us the address and explained to us how to get there and where to park. I parked in a public garage for $5.00, this was not my best choice, because I'm not used to walking alone downtown, but it wasn't that bad after all. I went into the Sun-trust building, a beautiful tall building. The academy is on the 22nd floor as Nicole told us in her email. Once I got there, we went to this room where she had everything set up as you can see in my pictures, so pretty and organized. That's one of the most important things for me, how well organized and neat everything was. I need all those, in order for me to learn and enjoy myself the way I did. She started the class as a Professor will, telling us about herself and that, made me happy, such a prepared person is teaching me about wine...wow. The way she directed the class, with all the details, from guiding us where to buy wines, to open up our senses. Smell, Taste, and Body, were words we used during the whole class since we learned from her how to categorize each different wine, from all the six we had. As we were learning, smelling, and trying the wines, she also told us how to pair them with food and gave us tips on which wine will go good or better with the food we choose. With the wines we tried, we had some nuts, cheese and crackers, grapes, and dark chocolate...Yummy! They also offer all the 4 levels of WSET classes, plus labs like the one I went and more. You can always call or check their website for more information. Honestly, after trying this class yesterday, I don't feel so embarrassed to try the leveled classes and get my certification, because they way they teach you, you can actually learn and move forward.
