if you're a trans woman don't ever go here if you have anything remotely approaching short or medium length hair. Twice i've been here and both times what i've asked for has essentially been ignored as they make my hair twice as short as the photos i show and what i ask for. This time i showed a photo of a haircut a little shorter than what i had with asymmetrical bangs that covered one eye and instead, i got symmetrical bangs that don't even cover my eyebrows and sides that are boxy and awful instead of tapering to a point like the photo i showed. I legitimately don't understand how you can ignore what i ask for almost entirely. I'd laugh if i didn't look in the mirror and cry. don't ever come here if u want ur wishes respected. don't ever come here if ur trans. i don't even feel safe and comfortable going outside anymore until i wait MONTHS for this to grow to the point i can get it cut by someone who actually listens to what i want. read more

I made a switch to this salon after living in Morristown and going to one of the typical over priced, stuffy salons for years. I thought I was getting the best treatment even though I never left completely satisfied. 46 W has a welcoming vibe. I never feel like I'm just a number and I always enjoy my time there- and as a natural dark brunette who insists on being blonde I'm there for a while lol. Everyone is super talented. Gabe is an absolute perfectionist and I left today loving my hair more than I ever thought I could. I can't believe it's me when I look in the mirror. Feeling like a bombshell goddess!!! After going to the same person for over ten years, I decided to let them have a go at my hair. I am so happy I did. Came here on recommendation from a friend. My hair was fried (a bit too much bleach) and wasn't cut properly (I had hard lines like steps going across my hair). Gabe and Mike feed off each other and their combined expertise resulted in the attached pics. Gabe listened to what I wanted, what I liked and didn't like and I now have this amazing subtle color indoor and pop of color for when I'm outside . They're def hair gods !! read more

Even though they moved their shop 15 minutes away with ample choices still in Rockaway I still drive to Boonton to see them because they are simply the best. My 3rd time here after good results previously. I asked for a lighter balayage for something different. After verbal description and showing inspiration pictures, THIS was the end result. Horrific. Not blended with my natural dark color, no dimension, and the white/platinum starting way too high up. And the yellow color in front close to the scalp that gave me a great "skunk" look when pulled up into a ponytail. At almost $300 plus tip, it looks like I tried to bleach my hair myself. Also nothing was mentioned about special products to purchase to maintain the look or future upkeep until the process was almost complete-- shouldn't this be discussed at the initial consultation?, especially for someone like me who does not get their hair done on a regular basis (which the stylist was aware of). *I will say, the cut was nice. If you're looking to lighten your hair for a trendy updated look...I cannot recommend this salon. Will not be returning. Thankfully I found another salon that was able to fix this mess! read more

I came to Gabe and Mike in need of some severe color correction. My old hair stylist left bleach on my hair for too long and my hair turned this horrific shade of burnt orange. I have had friends and family that have used Gabe and Mike and they swear by their knowledge and expertise and I am so happy that I listened! I have always had problems with hair dressers. Many reasons they didn't see my view of what I wanted but went overly glam and was not me. Or I was charged too much due to having thicker hair and a cochlear device under my scalp so places tried to charge me more. Michael and Gabe are just fabulous! I loved the little shop it was perfect cozy warm and very nice set up. Very relaxing atmosphere. Michael did my hair and I swear he was so perfect. He explained my hair type, explained his ideas, asked of my styling and how I do my hair. I work at a jewelry store, and first met the owners Mike and Gabe during work. They are very friendly, and we started talking and eventually told me that they own a hair salon. They gave me a card, and I decided to give them a call a few months later. I called their personal number on a sunday, and gabe told me they were closed but they could open up just for me. Got a men's haircut from mike. I told him I wanted to try a different style, and after talking he came up with a solution. I was very happy and it looked very good. His fade on the side was very impressive, and a good scissor cut on the top. He then waxed my eyebrows for me (btw the wax they use is great and honestly painless, it peels off instead of ripping), and I was happy with the wax. I explained I wanted clean eyebrows that essentially don't look like they get waxed the just look natural, and he did exactly that. All this, and they provided me a cold drink and a very friendly, talkative environment. After years of different barbers I don't plan on going anywhere else! These guys are great! read more
