The cost was a little pricey, but it wasn't a problem. It was a little confusing at first because the cashier made us use a QR code to sign in. Not a problem but there were no other instructions or guidelines besides him telling us to sign in. Kinda iffy but okay. We shoot at one bay and decide to move to another. When we get there, this RSO starts yelling at us that we weren't being safe which was odd because I literally just sat my things down. He told us that a "regular" was telling us the rules and we weren't listening. At no point and time was anyone yelling at us. Regardless, he tells our friend's kiddo to "shut up and listen to him and just say yes sir to him." That rubbed me the wrong way. He was of legal age and didn't know, and there were no rules posted or told to us. Another older RSO came and explained it to us in a much nicer tone. Nothing wrong with the facilities, would just be better if there were posted rules or some guidance before just letting us go out there. And if that RSO is reading this, please do better. You could have approached us better than that.

Personally, I am big fan of the back nine. My only real "knock" on this course is how busy it is. In June, when it was 112 degrees, there was still an hour and a half wait for a tee time at 4pm. Student membership is a good deal. $500 per season (or $125 per month) gets you access to the driving range every day of the week and unlimited golf with a $12 cart fee. I don't think the course is as difficult as others have described, I am a high handicapper and have no problem getting through a round. If you like golf and you're a Red Raider, you should play here at least once no matter your skill/experience level.

MacKenzie Park in the northeast area of Lubbock, TX, has a ton of recreational opportunities:…read more Baseball Fields, Canyon Run Dog Park, Crossroads in Time Sculpture Garden (dedication Oct 2004), Disc Golf Course, Equestrian Trail, Joyland Amusement Park, Meadowbrook Golf Course, Moonlight Musicals Amphitheatre, Mustangs-Sculpture by Steve Teeters, Prairie Dog Town, Santa Land, and softball fields. This area is also home to MacKenzie Park Lake. Watching the water birds on the partially frozen water was both soothing and amusing on Christmas Day (2022). There were multiple benches, picnic areas, a playground, reserved picnic pavilions, restrooms, and a seasonal snack concession area. Entry was free at least during the winter. There was close access to Interstate 27. On the days my daughters & I visited, it was hard to tell if RVs & truck drivers would find this to be an easy pit stop to access as there were road closures due to a sewer renovation project.
