I had the Philly burrito and husband had a smash burger. Both were excellent. Honestly, it was some of the best food I'd had in a while. We sat in the indoor patio room and it was nice and toasty with a fire in the fireplace. Great selection of beers. Service was friendly and prompt. I don't know why this place has such poor reviews. We stopped here once we arrived in town after a long 13 hour drive we were starving. I enjoyed being thrown back in time with the old western feel of this area. We walked in and wondered if it was even open. There were lights on but no one around. We walked over to the restaurant area there was one girl standing there. She didn't really acknowledge us at first. I wasn't sure if it was a seat yourself place or wait to be seated. After sitting about 10 min I was starting to wonder if the zombie apocalypse happened here. Luckily a few more people came in and sat down. It was just awkward. The girl finally came over and took our drink order. It took her forever to come back with some water. After ordering our food it took about 30 min to get it. I ordered the burnt end Mac n cheese per the waitresses recommendation. The burnt ends were decent. I did not care for the Mac n cheese much though. My husband and daughter both ordered burgers and really enjoyed them. The fries were really good too. My husband and daughter really liked this place , I wasn't too crazy about it but maybe it was just what I ordered. The prices were a bit on the higher side. The portions were average. I liked the large fire place in the center. It's a very nice place to eat if you arent in a hurry and just want to relax and enjoy some time with friends or family. read more

Look it's Darby, not Hollywood. When I order a caesar drink with well vodka, I dont want to pay $12 for garbage. That's the bottom line. Stop in and check out their food but skip the drinks. Overpriced and not the best bartenders in the valley. I said what I meant. read more

We came to this bar because the one across the street we usually go to was closed. We came across the street and what a wonderful surprise! It is actually 2 separate buildings joined by an open air patio. They have concerts through the summer by some really talent bands! They have a huge selection of beers, and our "chubby blond waitress" (a description from a poorly written review) could not have been friendlier or knowledgeable. We asked about a couple of options and she steered us towards the beefy burrito (be sure to get extra sauce). My wife had the BLT with tater tots and it was easily one of the best she's had. The beefy burrito is HUGE! And it is so good. I was surprised to find a fantastic burrito in Montana, but here it is! Great selection of beers, and they have a great selection of cocktails! This is a great place to ignore the poor reviews. I highly recommend this place. read more

Be aware. This is the only bar in MT that Ive ever been to that charges you extra for mixers in a drink. Your club soda comes out of the fountain. It's nothing special. It's not out of a bottle. Do you also charge for Coke in a Jack and Coke? I don't know, I don't drink that. We ordered vodka sodas with a splash of lemonade got charged for the lemonade and the soda water extra. The only place I've ever seen that done is in Europe when we travel there. Been all over America and have never seen it. The food is not good. We've had two meals too many, here in 2 days and not one is great (will not be back).... Shorten your menu and do a few things great instead of having three pages of options and none are great. This is a small town true but there are better options than this. Go somewhere else. read more

Was In Town visiting and we wanted a meal and enjoy the sunny weather! Place is nice in getting sun and sitting outside with a large bar area. Menu was limited but I believe that's because they were reopening! We got the pulled pork Philly and the shrimp tacos. The pulled pork is more pulled pork and no Philly. But overall taste was good but would of liked to see onions and peppers with it. The shrimp tacos were ok! They were heavy on the slaw part and missing the shrimp. The corn tortilla was excellent. Service was excellent and friendly! I'd go back and get the burgers next! read more

Worst bar in the Bitterroot Valley! Avoid at all costs! - Grossly mismanaged - Rude, inattentive staff. I don't think I've ever seen a barmaid smile once. The chubby blonde is rude and needs to be fired. I sat there once for something like 10 minutes, and nobody even acknowledged my presence. They weren't even busy, and the barmaids were just pacing back and forth behind the bar and didn't even appear to be doing anything. I finally got up and left, and went to the bar across the street. - Expensive- I think a plate of cheese fries is something like $17? - Slow service- By the time you get your food, it's cold - Terrible music- I don't understand why a cowboy bar in Montana insists on playing gangster rap? - Barmaids are clearly inexperienced and don't know the basics. Draft beer is almost always flat, and has no head on it. (pro tip, most of the flavor comes from the head) - They are so desperate for business, that they actually host a "Penny Beer Night" where they basically give away free beer. Sad... - Most patrons don't look like they've had a shower in awhile. - If I had to find something good about this place, i'd say that at least the restrooms are clean. This might be the worst bar i've ever seen and I've actually been to many bars that eventually ended up on the Bar Rescue TV show. That's saying a lot! read more

Outstanding atmosphere and excellent food! If your looking for a warm beautiful place to eat some excellent food and have a well crafted beer...this is the place. The clear roofing that allows just the right amount of natural light with the fireplace in the center was so well thought out. Love it!!! read more

Wish Yelp would offer a negative star option, but only for the 406 saloon. Imagine having the audacity to confront the bride and groom on their wedding day moments after the reception dinner - then up and leaving moments later because "not enough people are buying drinks." The definition of unprofessional, reprehensible and rude all while charging $9 for a single at a make shift bar providing bottom shelf liquor. If you have an important event coming up and want to make a mockery of yourself while insulting the pocket books of your guests-I highly suggest hiring 406 saloon. I hope they respond to this review and do their best to make amends after causing a scene on someone's best day of their life. read more

I would rather burn my money than give it to 406 Saloon. Born and raised in the Bitterroot and I've never seen more unprofessional business in my life. As they were hired as a caterer for my friend's wedding. They caused an absolute scene towards the bride. The groom had to get involved and it impacted their wedding way. It's crazy to see the impact an out of state morals this low value business has. As they are new to Montana, they will not last long. The food is already know to be nasty and poor. 406 Saloon needs to leave our great valley. read more

Ordered the Fish & Chips. When the breading fell off it was slimy, wet & gooey on the inside. Manager insisted it was alright & did not offer to replace it with something else. She only offered to credit me for the untouched piece .Totally unacceptable. I will never eat there again. read more

We drove from Missoula just so my partner could eat and drink here. I'd been into the restaurant once before and was blown away. To start out, let me be clear that the restaurant next door is INCREDIBLE. The service is top notch, with servers who know the menu well and are happy to relay their specials and drink selections to patrons. Savannah was particularly amazing and we are so thrilled to have gotten to be her table for the night. On the other hand, the bartender next door was one of the angriest people I've ever been served by. Twice the age of our server with half the manners. She made it very clear when we came next door after our dinner that she was annoyed we were at her bar. As my partner and I are both in the service industry, we assumed she was just having a rough day. After two drinks, sitting quietly while I read a book and my partner scrolled on his phone, she informed us she was refusing us future service on the basis of being from out of town. I asked and she confirmed we didn't seem intoxicated and we're not exhibiting any poor behavior. She just didn't want to serve us anymore. An incredibly disappointing end to our out of town adventure and excitement to bring money to somewhere other than Missoula. Highly recommend eating next door but cannot recommend the bar itself until she's trained better. The saloon across the street is very friendly ;) read more

18 of us have been on a 10 day road trip on Motorcycles through Idaho and Montana. And the service and bar tender was THE WORST! We had Al the way through! Next year we WILL NOT stay in Darby we will continue on and find a FRIENDLY place that likes tourists like the rest of the places we stayed. read more

The food here is on the lower end of the spectrum. The establishment is very nice with great seating. I am just disappointed with the food quality and quantity. They do not use local beef. They skimp on the sides. The place across the street is much better. read more
