Wonderful place for breakfast! Warmly greeted by the quintessential diner waitress and pointed to 2 seats. Nephew and I both ordered omelets that were delicious and coffee. Everything was delicious. Huge fan of the coffee. We also snagged the last 2 cinnamon rolls that will be breakfast tomorrow. They look epic! We are not from Montana. I guess it shows. Waitress was super friendly to others, but not us. VERY slow. Food was okay. Nothing exciting prices were reasonable. Likely would not go again . Just a MEH experience. They should treat ALL customers kinder. Montana people are known for their kindness- just not here. read more

We were seated quickly and ordered right away. About 40 minutes later we were informed that our order was not sent to kitchen. No effort was made to expedite our order after the restaraunts mistake. After another 30 minutes waitress came by with another tables order to waive around in front of us. After another 10 minutes (well over an hour since we ordered) we left a few bucks on the table to cover our coffee and left hungry. Don't waste your time! read more

I was visiting from Dallas and decided to try this place for breakfast. We had the chicken fried steak special. It was amazing. Huge portion, tasty crust and premium beef. The small town "Mom & Pop" experience was horrible, limited foods for children, meats on ordered items way over done, the tall tables are not family friendly, the best thing about our visit were the fresh fries. Was really looking forward to a new place to eat in Lewistown and we were all very disappointed. We might try to get in before they stop serving breakfast and give it one more try not positive on that yet, we are still trying to get the bad taste and experience out of our mouths. Lets start by saying the food was very good. The ham and cheese omelet was yummy and large chunks of ham throughout. The sausage gravy for my husband's biscuits and gravy also very good. The biscuits need to be thicker or fluffier. The Texas toast is a great addition and way better than just regular white bread. They serve coffee, water, OJ and sodas(coke products). Overall very good food, reasonable pricing and the atmosphere is quaint. Its a local joint in downtown so many people know each other. There were 45 seats inside and a few tables large and small outside. The tables inside are way too large. They are 6 people tables except for 3 tables that seat 4. So if you know people you can share or just ask to sit with others if seats are open. My opinion would be to place smaller tables inside that seat two and four people. And have a few 6 seater tables. Ok, now onto the efficiency of the cafe. Two words...not good. We entered around 0845 on a Sunday morning. Crowded but not overwhelming. Three wait staff and what I believe was the owner- male. Walked up to the counter, they said seat yourself. We had to sit a six person table with only two people to occupy the space. Young guy took our drink order, good start. Thats where it fell apart. Waited....waited....saw other people who sat at the bar get waited before us-came in after us but was at the bar so in their face. Finally got up walked up to the counter, no one helped me. They were too busy figuring out coffee and drinks and looking very unorganized. Walked back to my table menu in hand and the male-possible owner asked if their was something i needed. I just asked if we could place our order. I heard him tell the wait staff we had been seated and waiting a while... a very friendly waitress came over took our order and food process began. I do not mind waiting for good food as long as I know its in the process somewhere in the back. While waiting we watched one waitress-older lady with dark long brown hair run off three families due to her abrasiveness about having to wait for the their food and her not taking their order right away. Three families-8 customers total. She scrambled around the cafe talking to herself and looking very crass and her tone very unfriendly. Got our food and it was good. And the two wait staff that had helped us was very friendly and the male in the cafe who made them take notice of us was also friendly. Overall, good food, not great efficient service but friendly-depending on wait staff. The cafe is cute and just a good local breakfast cafe. Only three stars because of the inefficiency of the cafe but still glad we went there while staying in Lewistown. read more

This is a very cute little cafe right in the heart of Lewistown. we came in late and they still served us breakfast almost an hour after they stopped. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is great. I had the French toast which was very good. I also got to try a bite of their omelets which were also really good. My only compliant is the coffee tasted a bit watery but this is without a doubt the best breakfast you can get in Lewistown. I almost forgot the portion sizes are huge so come hungry! read more

My husband and I were traveling from Livingston to Havre and passed through Lewistown on a Sunday. Quite a few restaurants were closed and we happened upon 406 Cafe. They have indoor and outdoor seating (summertime). We sat indoors. Our server was Shelby and let me just say, she was WONDERFUL! Bright, cheerful, helpful, efficient... the entire package. So... a HUGE shout out to her. They serve from the breakfast menu (only) on Sunday. We were looking for lunch since it was around noon, but ordered breakfast from a nice selection of items. Everything on our plates was delicious... cooked just right... and despite the crowd, the wait time was not an issue at all. I give the 406 Cafe a standing ovation for providing great food and friendly service in a central location. OH, and we also got to meet some of the locals and visit for a bit. read more

The waitress was great but i was not impressed with the restaurant itself. The prices were outrageous for the small amount of food you get (which wasn't even that great). The cook couldn't make small substitutions in the food which most restaurants would be happy to do. Not impressed. Will not be back. read more
