He helped me get rid of the pieces that wouldn't mesh well together and created nice balance of color and complexity. It I were to ever visit Florida and lose my arm in a fight with a gator, but the gator was radioactive, thus giving me the reptilian ability to regrow my arm, sans tattoo, I would go right back to him and 3rd generation ink fit the exact same tattoo. read more

I went back for my 2nd (and Last!) tattoo just last weekend with Eric. He also made the whole process comfortable. I've used the Shaw family since 1987. I only have 5 and only one was done by a non-Shaw artist, I was drunk. Yesterday Joe, who has done my two largest, did AMAZING work on my latest. As the oldest tattoo dynasty in the U.S. It's easy to see why their reputation is so good. Joe takes intricate designs and adds additional details that makes every tat unique. How cool is it to know that something you will have the rest of your life is unlike anything else in the world!!! Little Larry has the cleanest studio I have ever seen. Long story short, a few years ago I had in mind for the only tattoo I would ever get. I talked to anyone I saw with a nicely done tattoo. I finally settled on a place that was highly recommend. That's where it all went to hell. It didn't occur to me that they might have someone who was not the best at the craft. My very personal, very meaningful tattoo looked like a fifth grader drew it. Fast forward a few years. I was talking to someone about spending$8,000.00 to get it lasered off. He told me about Larry Shaw at 3rd generation ink. I sent him a picture of what I had. Made the appointment, and went in. Comparing the only two tattoo shops I have ever been in, was night and day. The first place was what one might expect to see in a tattoo"joint". 3rd generation is clean, bright, open and doesn't smell like someone peed in the mop bucket. Larry is bright outgoing, and friendly. When you are sitting there for a couple of hours, that becomes important. He is really a third generation tattoo artist. He is obviously proud of his heritage and his work. I told him a couple of ideas I had and he drew on his wisdom to politely and informatively tell me my ideas were not the best. After about 2 1/2 hours I have something better than I had ever hoped for. Larry is truly a cover up master. I couldn't be happier. My first experience in a joint left me as mad at myself as the stone fingered tattooist. So, all that having been said, I am totally pleased with the whole experience at 3rd generation. If you are thinking about getting a tattoo, or if you have one that needs to be fixed, you can't go far wrong at 3rd generation. The cost? My first response is, if you have to ask, spend your money on groceries instead. My practical response is, I don't know how it really compairs overall. It was less than I paid at the joint, and I am pleased with the results. Mine was money well spent. If you are interested in getting a tattoo, at least go in and talk to Larry. read more

Great first tattoo experience! I went here based off of Yelp reviews and was instantly impressed the first time I walked in. The shop was very clean and Eric was able to look at my picture, set an appointment, and a few days later I returned to get my beautiful cactus tattoo. Eric suggested adding shading to the outline I brought in, which added so much more dimension to the tattoo. I am so happy with my tattoo! I highly recommend this place. Came here for my first tattoo to see Cristian (IG @cristianstattoos) at the recommendation of a friend. He was really patient as we decided on the sizing and placement, which I really appreciated. My tattoo from prep to finish took just about (or under) one hour for $120, which was totally appropriate for the level of detail and time he spent making sure everything was perfect. Cristian is very detailed and surprisingly fast as well, so I will be coming to him in the future for all my tattoo needs! I went to 3rd Generation Ink on a Saturday night as a walk-in appointment. I've gotten all of my work done at one shop in Boulder, Colorado (Bolder Ink), so I felt a bit guilty like I was cheating on them. Bryan, with 9-years of tattooing experience, seduced me with his jokes and immediately started free-handing and sketching out the tattoo idea I had in mind. What a smooth talker that one is. I have to say I was initially turned off by this place because it's literally at a gas station. However, once I walked in, I noticed how clean it was and then felt comfortable to get my work done here. Bryan informed me that the minimum price for a tattoo at this shop is $80, and the price varies from there depending on complexity and time. Once the sketch was completed and I was happy with it, he gave me some paperwork to fill out before we got started. He then told me how he needed to shave the area on my body where I was getting my tattoo. He stated, "Shaving men's chests is why I got into this business, the tattooing part is just an added bonus." He had me and my girlfriend cracking up throughout the entire process, including his one story of a dude from his high school with a tongue ring, but you will need to ask him about the details on this one. After the tattoo was completed, he cleaned it up, spread ointment on it, bandaged it up, and gave me instructions on how to take care of it. I paid what we had agreed on and gave him a $20 tip. Overall, it was a great experience, and although I have never gotten any tattoo work across Houston before, I would recommend this place for its cleanliness and quality. I am 54 years old and have never had a tattoo before. I went in with my 18 year old daughter last night to get my first one. You walk in to a VERY clean shop and very well decorated....not too crazy, but definitely felt like a tattoo shop. Neil Ritter was amazing. I told him I was nervous and he was very thorough in his explanations, estimation of how long mine would take and he stopped every so often and asked me how I was doing. He was kind and talented and cared about my comfort. Everything was sterile and spotless, even while he was working on me. My daughter''s tattoo was bigger and in a more sensitive spot, but she also had an awesome experience. I would HIGHLY recommend this shop and Neil. In fact, I might go back for another at some point.
