Save your hard earned money. Joe and his team installed a seam (I had seamless granite and was…read morejust sprucing up the look - did not change footprint) with two unmatching colors. Looks awful - cost 7k. Didn't fix and didn't offer a discount for their poor work.

We will most definitely be looking elsewhere for the rest of renovations. This was our awful experience: It took a week for Joe to get a hold of the template guy to schedule an appointment for which he never showed up. Joe, of course, did not take the blame or apologize for the no show. When the measurements were finally taken we were told by Joe that it would be less than 2 weeks to fabricate. Four weeks later and after countless unanswered messages from Joe, we finally got the word our counter was ready (by calling ourselves- don't expect them to do their job). We scheduled the install and they showed up without the back splash because, according to the installer, they broke it while cutting (when we asked Joe why we were told it was all done if it had broke while cutting he changed his story saying it broke while loading onto the truck). We were underwhelmed with the product and installation. There was a large gap left between the wall and counter top. We complained & Joe said the side splash (which we did NOT want or order, but apparently paid for) would cover it- we had no choice but to use the side splash at this point. We just got the back splash and side splash installed and they are too short for the counter top. I expected everything to be perfect considering it took a month for a 60" vanity top. Precision is important in this industry, but apparently not to Gem. The polish on the stone is not good, the measurements taken were not correct and Joe was an absolute horror to deal with. They take no responsibility for their mistakes and they did not reduce the price for our troubles and the poor quality of their stone or offer us a corrected back splash for their measuring error. Save yourself a lot of stress, wasted time and money... go elsewhere.

It took me literally months of interviewing contractors to have our kitchen cabinets refinished. We…read moreexperienced those people who didn't return phone calls nor did they show up. Others claimed that they were legitimately licensed and insured however, when asked to provide the proper information, they magically disappeared. There were those who did show up and were licensed but handed us a crumpled piece of paper with one line literally giving us a price. Being a homeowner, when I hire someone to do work in the house, I always deal with licensed and insured people. I want others to know that it is very easy to call consumer affairs to check on the status (or lack there of)of a contractor's license. I don't necessarily go for the least expensive either. I found that those who could not provide me with legitimate licensure were the ones who gave the lower figures. There's a reason for that. My husband and I were very pleased after our initial meeting with John Strahle and his son Justin. Unlike many of the other people, whom I would not have even considered, they didn't just ask me to send them pictures of the kitchen merely because they were too lazy to come to give an estimate. They made the appointment, showed up in a timely manner and explained the entire process concisely and clearly. They didn't just throw a number at us to see if it would stick. Thought went into it before I was presented with a very professional and thorough contract in a timely manner. Justin has been working diligently in our house this week. He has been extremely careful in prepping and sealing off any area that was not to get painted. We went from having our main cabinets a sangria brown finish with a white island to having the cabinets painted in off White and the island and amazing shade of blue. Wow! It really pops. Now I can understand why the references that I was given were so pleased with the job that John and Justin did in their homes. I had spoken to a gentleman with a very high end home in Bridgehampton and others in East Hampton and everyone was very pleased with the work. I am now pleased to endorse their work and serve as one of their referrals. Thank you so much for doing such a stellar job!

He was prompt with appointments and had to use his expertise in solving problems that exist when you are working with a pre-existing kitchen. I highly recommend him.
