She has helped treat and heal me as I have gone through a mastectomy, radiation, and now in my remission phase. You'll be filling out a detailed patient form. The form is also available online to fill out pre-visit. - Get a good idea of what areas you'd like to focus on BEFORE your visit. I was surprised to learn the extensive list of discomforts / ailments acupuncture can treat. From joint aches to anxiety and depression, acupuncture treats more than you think! Give yourself a "health audit" (mental and physical) to really pinpoint the areas that need attention. This will help your acupuncturist develop the best treatment plan for you. - Don't eat an hour before your appointment. - Since this is a school, you will be receiving treatment from students. Don't be alarmed! Think of it like a residency for acupuncturist. Student experience is measured from a level 1 (full physician supervision) to level 4 (minimal physician supervision). Regardless of level, the students practicing in the clinic have already passed several qualifying exams including an herbal test. I felt totally comfortable with student Elizabeth. She was extremely knowledgable and in her 4th (and final) year of acupuncture school. You have the option to request a level 1-4 student. -Visit the website to print out a promotional coupon that will take 50% off your first visit. After my first treatment, I honestly felt a difference. My knees felt more relaxed and the tension was noticeably lower after acupuncture. They have Saturday clinic hours. Just as a heads up, they are very busy on Saturdays and the walls are thin, so you may hear the conversations in the hallways. The acupuncture beds are not the most comfortable. Due to the number of clients that they see on Saturdays, sometimes it feels a little rushed compared to the other 2 acupuncture places I've tried. At each visit, the practitioner will listen to your pulse and check your tongue. They will place fine needles throughout your body's meridians for about 20 minutes. At the end of your session, they will prescribe herbal teas and/or supplements. They informed me that they do not take insurance....although Aetna lists them as in network. They do give you a superbill if you want to submit a claim to your insurance. The out of pocket charge each visit was $105 (on the more expensive side in Houston). They usually recommend herbs on top of that so, expect to spend another $40 - $60 for a week's worth of herbal teas. FYI, the prices on the initial consultation has increased so expect to pay $130+ for that. I didn't have success with my primary treatment, but I had secondary benefits like sleeping better and less stress.
