Changing lives, one neutral dog at a time. Amani K9 are…read morechanging lives. Honestly, our Nyx (120# Cane Corso) had become a liability. We love her to pieces, but our sole focus was trying to manage her environment. Some of our "management" techniques included: cardboard blocking the slider so she wouldn't see and yell at the neighbors, or the squirrels; a heavy rope martingale harness to walk her to the car; blacked out the back windows of our car so she couldn't see out and yell at every pedestrian (and scratch at the windows); we could not walk her; she had to be completely sedated to be seen by a vet; we could only board her at a kennel an hour and a half away; she could not be introduced to visitors. Our goal was to keep everyone safe, but when we ended up at the E-vet with our Corgi (Lexi) we realized we were not up to the task and looked for help. Every interaction with Amani K9 has been professional, empathetic, direct and effective. From our first contact we felt supported and understood. We didn't know what to expect, but they were clear about what services they could provide and how to proceed. Our evaluation with Marianna and Synclair was so informative, it's clear they know and love what they do and want to help. We left that meeting feeling more hopeful about Nyx than we had been in years. We enrolled in the 8 week board and train, and not everyone in our household was completely on board. (8 weeks is too long, why can't we visit, when can we see her, when can we love on her) We were in it for the long haul though, and Marianna even volunteered to be the bad guy, because we were NOT managing Nyx, we were just delaying a potential catastrophe. The next lapse might be worse than just an E-vet visit and some stitches. Those 8 weeks flew by, and while we had 6 "sessions" to teach us how to communicate effectively with Nyx, it's a steep learning curve. Imagine learning a new language while also learning to tango and having to match words with movement AND remain grounded and neutral. It's a real strain on the brain, and we had some baggage we were carrying around. (How am I supposed to keep #105 (now) of determined muscle from going wherever she wants to go with this teeny tiny ribbon of a leash?) Marianna and Synclair are ultimate "hype girls" though, able to give constructive feedback while still pointing out all the right things that you're doing. At the end of those 8 weeks, Marianna brought Nyx home, walked me through all the important new processes we were going to incorporate, and then said the most helpful thing ever: "I'm not just walking out the door and you'll never see or hear from me again, I'm just an email away." After Nyxy's first day home, our local sceptic realized how relaxed and calm Nyx was, sleeping on her cot. It was inconceivable to him, based on the Nyx of before times, that she could be anything but miserable if she was held hostage in her "place". After Nyxy's second day, he asked when we would be getting a "place" cot for Lexi. It's work, it's constant and forever work, but the Nyx we have now is so much calmer and at peace than we ever could have imagined. In our attempt to "manage" Nyxy's environment, we had shrunk her world so much, it's a joy and relief to be able to expand Nyx's world for a change. Amani K9 changed our lives, and we will be forever grateful.

We enrolled our 15-month-old Dogo Argentino in their 8-week training program after adopting him from the Humane Society. He had been struggling with anxiety, recall, tantrums, and self-regulation. After just four weeks, during our parent training session, we noticed a remarkable difference in his temperament. He was able to manage his anxiety around other dogs and outside distractions, follow commands consistently, and walk calmly on a leash beside us--no more pulling or wandering aimlessly. This program has completely transformed our relationship with our pup. He now trusts us more deeply because not only did he learn how to regulate himself, but we also learned how to help him do so. He stays in place on his mat without following us around or begging for food--it's like having a completely different dog! We're so glad we chose Amani K-9. We feel more confident and connected in our relationship with our dog because we better understand him, and he knows exactly what we expect of him.

Before training, Simba had zero structure -- he pulled hard on the leash, barked at everyone and everything, and even bit my 2-year-old daughter. He was always a house dog, and I'll admit I let him get away with a lot. But after that bite incident, I knew something had to change. From the very beginning, Jamal really took the time to understand our household and what we needed, especially with a toddler in the mix. When Simba came home, I could not believe it was the same dog. He's now calm, obedient, and responsive. He no longer pulls on the leash or nips at anyone. He listens to commands, doesn't bark excessively, and has such a better sense of control and focus. What really stood out to me is that Jamal didn't just train my dog -- he also trained me. He gave me the confidence I needed as a dog owner to trust my dog and to trust myself. I now feel like Simba and I truly understand and respect each other. Our bond is stronger than ever, and I finally feel like I'm leading him in the right way. We can now take him to off-leash parks, and he plays nicely with other dogs but comes right back when called. At home, he's relaxed, respectful, and fits beautifully into our family again. I'm beyond grateful to Jamal and his team for giving Simba the structure and foundation he needed -- and for giving us peace of mind as a family. Highly, highly recommend K9 Timeless Training and Boarding!

I can't give Canyon Crest K9 high enough praise as my dogs behavior improved dramatically after even just a few lessons. I took their full course and instructions were clear, easy to understand and easy to use. I really like their combination of abundant praise and mild correction. My dogs actually seem happier as well, and visitors to my home have stated they are so much better behaved. I intend to take further courses from Canyon Creat K9. I had taken two other courses from another large dog training facility that uses food rewards, and positive reinforcement only. That training was confusing, critical of my learning and tied to food rewards being high value to the dog and often changing those rewards to get the response that was needed. My dog actually reverted to the behaviors that ended up with my broken arm. in other words, the training didn't stick with either the dog or me. My dogs with Canyon Crest K9 respond to my praise, treats are not involved and I feel like I am communicating with them on a much higher level. With the instruction Canyon Crest K9 supplies an illustrated book written by their founder, provides access to a video that directly links and repeats the exact instructions that are given during the one on one training sessions. I believe they've been in business close to 50 years and it really shows they know what they are doing. I am over 70 with two large dogs that now are a pure pleasure to be around!

A really nice lady answered the phone and invited me to watch a lesson at Canyon Crest K-9 Training. Right away I liked what I saw. The trainer was calm, clear, and direct in her teaching, and she was easy to understand. I signed up for the 10-lesson program, and by lesson three I could already see a difference. My dog was paying attention and actually making the choice to respond to what I asked instead of ignoring me or doing whatever she wanted. One of the things I really appreciated about the training was learning to read my dog's body language, and watching my dog start to read mine. While I was taking my lessons, I noticed some things on the wall about a program called Dogabetics. I told the trainer I was pre-diabetic and didn't need my dog to alert me, but I was interested in watching a lesson where they train service dogs to alert their owners in case someday I might need one. They let me sit in on a service dog training lesson, and it was really interesting to see how they work. By the end of the program, I had a solid working relationship with my dog. I later went on to do personal protection training with Ron Pace, the owner, because as an older woman I wanted to feel safe walking by myself and know my dog could help me if I needed it. I would recommend Canyon Crest K-9 Training to anyone looking for real, practical training that changes how you and your dog communicate."

While Duncan was in their care, he was bitten by another dog. We were never notified that the incident had occurred. We only discovered the injury after picking him up. Afterward, we asked the facility what treatment had been provided. We were told that Duncan's ear had been treated by the owner using a cautery tool. When we asked for clarification, that explanation was reaffirmed. When we later spoke directly with the owner, he denied that any cauterization had occurred, said he did not know why we had never been notified of Duncan's injury, explained that he "doesn't really work there" because he is just the owner, and said he guessed he would need to retrain the employees. Wanting to understand exactly what happened, we requested a written explanation, copies of any incident report, treatment records, photographs, and other documentation. The owner's written response was simply that there was no documentation and that he had nothing more to add. The part that concerns me most isn't just that Duncan was injured. Dogs can unfortunately get injured while playing. What concerns me is: We were not notified when our dog was bitten. We received conflicting explanations about what treatment was performed. There was no incident documentation available. The owner could not explain why their own notification procedures were not followed. The facility's website states that if a dog is injured, owners will be notified promptly, basic first aid will be provided, and dogs needing further care will be taken to a veterinarian. That was not our experience. Every owner has to decide what level of communication and transparency they expect from a boarding facility. For us, learning after the fact that our dog had been bitten--and then being unable to get a clear, consistent explanation of what happened--has permanently damaged our trust.

Though I was successful training my now-13-year-old doggo with socializing, basic commands, tricks, and becoming a CGC, the main reason I signed up my older puppy was for the continued socialization and help in fine-tuning the foundation I had with her--as well as possibly getting her into a variety of fun activities! I'm only 3/12 weeks into visiting Argus and attending classes with Sarah Forde and I can positively, hands- (or rather "paws-") down say this was such a fabulous decision! Though I was initially intimidated by how huge the property is (and there must've been a competition going on because there were a TON of vehicles), it was super easy to find where I needed to go. I've met a lot of trainers and dog-sports enthusiasts (it's common when you're in the veterinary field) and this place is super welcoming, supportive, fun, and informative. Sarah is such a gem. I love the metaphors they use in class to help us silly humans better understand our dogs, the mini victories we celebrate together, the strong focus on positive reinforcement, and the full support we receive in class. All of this which strengthens the human-animal bond. I'd highly recommend Argus and Sarah for any training you're thinking of pursuing with your furbabies! The place appears to be pretty clean and well-maintained, too. They have a cute little shop with a small selection of food, training treats, toys, AR merch, etc. for decent costs. I've already spoiled my pup with a few things from there. You will not regret or be disappointed in choosing Argus or Sarah!

If you are a new puppy owner looking for a class that also includes puppy/dog socializing skills…read morethen go elsewhere because this business does NOT offer socialization in that manner. Their website states "We will focus on engagement, relationship, socialization, and basic life skills." As a new puppy owner it is safe to assume with that description that socialization skills with other dogs will also be covered, but as I found out 2 nights before the class started it is not. According to them they only focus on "engagement, environmental socialization, and other foundation skills". I suggested that they update their description because it is very misleading if they are going off of what they told me is their dog sports prep community definition of socialization as "exposure to lots of things and establishing happy feelings to those things,". Being told that I need to do puppy/puppy socializing outside of the class with no real instruction or training as a new owner how would I know the proper way to introduce my puppy to other dogs, identify negative behavior with other puppies/dogs and steps on how to correct it? It's surprising to me that they would even suggest that. I also recommended that they email the class information not 2 nights before but a week before so owners have the opportunity to cancel should they wish as they only have a 7 day cancellation policy. This is not ethical business practice to wait until the last minute to share these details. It's a complete bait and switch. I asked for my refund 3 times given that I didn't receive the details until the last minute and they completely disregarded my last request and I have yet to hear back from them. Very disappointed on how this was handled.

When we came and met with the owner he seemed to know his dogs well and gave us a good pitch. A few months after receiving the dog we were told he had Nystagmus. Due to our ignorance of dogs we didn't see the signs when purchasing the dog simply because we didn't know what to look for. This is something the breeder should have known and in my opinion did know about. He sold us the dog anyway. The vet, specialist, and other people in the industry we have talked to have confirmed they would have saw the signs. He has been around dogs his entire life and I would expect the same. When I called to ask the breeder about it I was blown away to find out he didnt know which of his dogs even had our puppy. I realized that he was likely breeding litters from multiple dogs (which he has at the kennels) and selling people on that they came from one of the dogs there (who has a better bloodline). He was very rude on the phone, talked down to me, and did not take any consideration. Out of consideration for his business I waited a long time for him to follow up with me about the concerns. He did not follow up and didn't show us he cared about the situation at all. As a customer this is frustrating. We have a puppy that we are stuck with. We are now are stuck with the issues it has and the medical bills. I wanted to share our story so that someone else doesn't end up where we are today with our dog.
