They've been slowly upgrading their bus/streetcar/subway trains to more efficient, spacious and even more accommodating for passengers. The new vehicles are certainly an improvement compared to the past. If you need to get somewhere in Toronto, odds are you'll be able to get there via TTC. The service is passable and individual employees are friendly enough, but I still feel there are a lot of inefficiencies in the way it is run, which has to do with management. Constant price increases never seem to be enough as the TTC always seems to run a budget deficit. Pros: Accessibility to a lot of streets in Toronto (coverage-wise) Service comes relatively quickly Navigation can be aided by a GPS-tracking app that updates in real time Runs all day and on weekends Relatively inexpensive pricing Cons: Constant price increases with little to no service improvements Delays on TTC subway lines are frequent during rush hour Lack of adherence to the stated bus schedules make planning a bit difficult (although the aforementioned app above does mitigate this con somewhat) Overall I would rate the experience as average. It gets you from point A to B, and that's all you can really ask for from a transit system.

Also, the bus drivers on this route seem to always stop and wait for me when they see me hauling ass, sprinting for the bus from half a block down the road. It's pretty quick and doesn't stop as much as the Dufferin bus, which is often rammed too full of passengers.

When 63 fails - it fails miserably: no buses for 30 minutes (on a frequent service line), buses bunching up 3+ at a time (resulting in large gaps in service), buses too full to get on, etc. For someone who rides the 63 daily, it works more than it doesn't - however it has a tendency of not working at the worst possible moments (Murphy's Law). Drivers usually are nice and manage the riders well.

Like they say ... Yup, good ol' Christie subway station, home of Christie Pits park and Koreatown…read moreshopping; plus, Tims pretty much beside and a Baskin Robbins, too. This station is foot friendly - there are no endless turns and corridors to make it from the street to your train and vice versa. We have group walks meet here often as it also has a decent amount of interior space between paid fare area and outside. Sometimes you'll even find a staff on duty. The layout is wide and open so that traffic moves well, no bottlenecking. (Not unless one of our infamous Presto machines goes boink and we waste more minutes of our lives, navigating the problem and wondering WTF was wrong with the turnstiles that worked like clockwork, anyway?)

The west side of Koreatown, Seaton, and the Annex as well as Bickford Park and northern Little Italy, Christie serves a very wide range of nearby neighborhoods. Between Ossington, Christie and Bathurst these stations serve me as an individual as being the 3 closest stations with the widest range of local eateries in town. There's only one bus that runs off of Christie and you will need a transfer from another station to use the bus or a transfer from the bus to get into the station etc. The 126 Christie bus is a very short route. It loops at Bloor right in front of the station (east side of Christie) and goes north along Christie intersecting both Dupont and Davenport before turning east along St. Clair Ave crossing Vaughan road and Bathurst before crossing Yonge near St. Clair station (Line 1).

Even in off peak times I rarely get a seat. During rush hour, this thing goes from busy to super packed, which is odd because it's a very short route. The good news is that this baby is frequent as hell. Never having waited more than 7 minutes for a bus even at midnight I am happy to see its congestion might be aided by the route increase. That's right folks..while nightmare routes like the 501 Queen and the 29 Dufferin are decreasing their service starting Feb 2012, this route will be increasing it. AWESOME!!!

So why am I reviewing a bus route... because I can AND because this one deserves praise. There's only been a few occasions in the last 7 months that I've NEEDED to take the bus but each time I've walked to Kipling this bus is like a good neighbour, a good friend, nay like Statefarm insurance - it's there! Even in weekends with reduced service it seems like 10 minutes is the longest I've ever had to wait. For those looking to access the lesser known beaches of south etobicoke from the city center a quick ride across the bloor line to the Kipling station and jumping on this bus will have you at the Humber campus where they begin, in no time. I also feel a lot safer knowing that my fiancée, a regular TTC rider, never needs to wait for her bus when she leaves early in the morning for work. I've clocked it and the express buss actually gets me to Kipling station faster than when I drive. All other bus routes take note. Oh and also.... no crazies in this route phew!

Was heading on a Northbound train…read morefrom St. Andrews to Finch, but due to maintenance had re-routed from Union back Southbound and had to get off at St. George to then switch to another Bloor-Yongye line. Upon getting to St. George, the station was filled with people scrambling all around in different directions 3x more than usual, overheard a lot of the red-vested TTC help attendants getting pretty overwhelmed and tired of the same questions from commuters wondering when the next train would come and how the medical emergency that stopped the first train would be resolved. I think there's real opportunity to consider more service design into transportation in Toronto. This would ultimately prevent situations like these from happening. (Ie. More signs and clearer messaging to inform riders on statuses, map improvements, ACCESSIBILITY, etc.)

How do I review this station without letting my disdain for the TTC get in the way? Hmmm…read more.. How about I just tell you about the station? In case you don't know St. George (I like to call him San Jorge) is the patron saint of jolly old England lad (and lasses). Did you know if the other two saint stations not named St. Clair are also patron saints of Ireland and Scotland? That's right Saint Patrick (aka San Patrizio) and Saint Andrew (San Andreas). Now stay with me because this will make your mind explode if you haven't already fallen asleep... If you were to combine the flags of St. George (red cross over white), St. Andrew (white cross over blue) and St Patrick (red X over white) you get the Union Jack flag aka the flag of the United Kingdom? OK enough of the history BS. I made that all up... actually no I didn't I'm just making sure you haven't lost interest just yet while I play this shell game of writing things completely irrelevant to St. George. So this station is special in a sense that it is one of the main interchange stations in all of the TTC system. In rankings of importance it's right up there and probably 3rd just behind Union (first) and Bloor/Yonge (second) in my personal ranking system of things. I like ranking things don't ask me why but ya I consider this station 3rd. This station is physically on the north side of Bloor Street between Prince Arthur and Bloor directly behind the OISE building of U of T (252 Bloor W). There are 2 entrances/exits while one faces St. George itself and the other is at Bedford. This station is on 3 levels. Ground level is where you enter/exit, buy tokens and such. The next level down is the 1 line (yellow line) which runs on the Spadina/University side (Downsview endpoint) and the Yonge side (Finch endpoint). This line runs right through the core of downtown from Bloor south through Queens Park and down University Ave to Union station before turning back up Yonge Street going all the way up to Finch Ave. This line is basically known as the "north-south" line and has recently been given the designation as "1" in the TTC's elaborate naming system. The next level down is the level for access to the Bloor Danforth line also known as "2" or if you are into colors it can also be called the green line. This is essentially your east west line that runs from Kipling to Kennedy. Really though nobody here calls any of these lines here by colors. This isn't Boston and the numbers thing is new but this isn't New York either. We don't have enough lines to be getting into letters either. Let's just say "3" should be part of "2" and "4" shouldn't even exist. San Jorge station is an important station because as far as interchange stations goes this is one of them and it can get very busy here.

Sure, there's the regular crazies, but every line has that -- #47 is no different. In the past, I've had drivers: * allow me on board with my dog during rush hour (because the bus wasn't that full and I needed to get her to the vet). I like it when drivers -- anyone, really -- use their judgement instead of strictly adhering to "the rules". * ask how my dog's doing (after the previous experience). Good memory! * let me ride without fare, because they recognized me and knew I was good for it next time (I was). * wait for me while I'm hobbling from the subway station with a bum knee, even though they were juuuuuust about to depart. I appreciate these things, I really do, and while the TTC isn't perfect I must say I'm pretty pleased with it. Sure there are exceptions, and there are days I wish I was a gas-guzzling commuter, but those are few and far between. Finally, one useful note: If you're on your way to the subway station and the light is red at Bloor, get off the bus and walk. It's seconds faster, and you beat the crowd! (Unless you plan on getting a coffee at the TCC... in which case you still beat the crowd. Just don't, under any circumstances, go into the Coffee Time. Pretend it doesn't exist. That's what I do.)

Really appreciated the Wi-Fi and the escalators from level 3 to 2 especially after all day walking and exploring Toronto. Recommend the PRESTO card! Load money and swipe and go. Reload as needed. Good for subway, streetcars, and UP Express. Found it a perfect option while on vacation and exploring the city.
