Mind if I gush for a moment?…read more Going to the dentist can be pretty scary for little kids. And for kids with autism, going to the dentist is often something that only occurs with sedation - yeah, I'm not even kidding there. I've spent the past year putting off finding a dentist for my 6 1/2-year-old son, after he had a terrifying experience at the dentist a year ago. Lately, though, we've gotten to the point where we needed to make some decisions about what to do with all these baby teeth that aren't coming out, even though they have permanent teeth cropping up right behind them. Soooo, I visited Saddle Rock Pediatric Dentistry, and asked them lots and lots of questions. Andrea, who works the front office, reassured me that they have lots of experience with special needs children, especially kids with autism. She was super helpful in helping me figure out my insurance coverage, and set us up an appointment for the very next day! I really talked up the dentist with my boy, but still fully expected our visit to be a nightmare. My worry was all for naught. He did SPECTACULAR. Our hygienist, Karen, was absolutely amazing. She was unbelievably patient, kind, gentle, and very soft spoken with my son. She explained to him in detail every single thing she was going to be doing, and he responded by lying still in the chair, only squirming occasionally. He had a cleaning, x-rays, and a fluoride treatment - without any tears, shrieking, or trying to run away. The whole thing turned out to be exactly the opposite of what I was expecting. After his cleaning, Dr. Foster came in and examined his teeth. She had nothing but good news for me - no cavities, and no need for any extraction. Woohoo! We were supplied with lots of goodies, too - way beyond just getting a new toothbrush. I could not be more pleased about all of this - believe me, when you have a child with autism, you seek out people to be "on your team" - those hairdressers and dentists and pediatricians and grocery store cashiers who GET IT. The ones who understand that not every child will respond to the same methods. The ones who take the time to make things easier for you and your child. And every single person I encountered at Saddle Rock Pediatric Dentistry was a ROCK STAR!

She was awful, talking very disrespectful in front of my kids , she even told me she is not a specialist (her words). She treated me very poorly, attacking me, and not explaining the dental issues my son was having. But then she tried to pressure me to see their orthodontist and got angry when I politely declined. I am done taking my kids there, plenty of nice dentists to choose from!

On Wednesday, December 24th my 10 year old woke up and complained about his tooth hurting. When I…read moreinspected him, I could see his lower jaw was swollen and his bottom canine loose. I called and left messages w/multiple dentists but all were closed due to the holiday. We thought we had a long and painful weekend ahead of us, until doctor David Hayutin called us back and offered to see our son on an emergency basis! He ended up having to remove an abcessed baby tooth, and was so kind and caring the entire time! He even went so far as to try to not charge me the $100 after hours fee (which I made him charge for his troubles!) Great doctor and a great person! Bring your kids to him! He took time out of his Christmas Eve to help my son!

I looked down to see blood gushing everywhere and his front tooth sticking out at a precarious angle. Why do these things ONLY happen after business hours??! I was so grateful when Dr. Hayutin picked up the phone (after the first 5 googled "emergency pediatric dentists" did not). Despite the late hour and us being an additional 45 min drive away, he amazingly agreed to meet us back at his office!! There was a $100 after hours fee which I thought was very reasonable! My relief was curtailed during the drive when I started worrying about having done zero research on him and not knowing the area his office was located in at all! But I was put at ease when Dr. Hayutin greeted me. He was very friendly, patient, and just had a great bedside manner! His office was clean and inviting with fun stars and shapes to distract my son. He ended up having to pull my son's tooth out (which we were expecting). Dr. Hayutin was efficient, professional, and provided us with clear expectations/explanations/and follow-up care (including a phone call in the morning to check-in!) We are only in Denver temporarily, but if we have any more dental needs while we are here, we will absolutely be going back to Dr. Hayutin!!! We feel incredibly lucky we ended up in his office for this experience!!

Dr. Chris Patterson is a wonderful dentist, and we are so grateful for how he supported our son…read more Our 5-year-old is autistic and has been seeing him for two years. This was the first time he needed cavities treated, which felt overwhelming as a parent because unfamiliar environments, people, and equipment can be especially difficult for autistic children. Dr. Chris was incredibly calm, patient, and compassionate. He met our son where he was, spoke to him in a gentle and reassuring way, and used playful interactions to help him feel safe and comfortable. Because of that support, our son was even able to tolerate an X-ray, which was a huge milestone. We love the TV screen with cartoons on the ceiling which engages kids quite well! I was also very nervous about the anesthesia, but Dr. Chris was so understanding and reassuring throughout the process. His experience with autistic children truly shows, and it made all the difference for our family. We highly recommend him.

During our last appointment this same dentist performed our exam. Again, zero introduction. He walks in the room and asks my 9 year old "what questions do you have for me?" Not sure how a 9 year old would respond. My son is super proud of not having any cavities but this dentist only provided negative feedback, commenting on something my son might be missing. After that appointment, I called the office to provide feedback, and they assured me that the next appointment would be with Dr Patterson. Fast forward 6 months and I get the reminder for our appointment in a couple of days which states that our appointment is with the dentist we do not prefer. I call the office about this, and the staff member begins throwing out new times that do not work for children in school. I ask if I can have someone call me back so I can understand how our original request wasn't honored and she stated that she could "try to have Tara call me back." Unfortunate that this was our experience. I recommend proactive communication when deciding to switch patients' providers to they can make informed decisions regarding their care. We won't return.

My 3 yr olds like her and her assistants and they painted on sparkle glitter to their teeth (polished), which they were very excited about! We took them there for their first appointment at 2 and they made my kids feel very comfortable and focused on a good experience to help put them at ease. She seems to be very up to date about current research and holistic aspects of teeth and their impact on health, including things like tongue ties and how they'll impact breathing and interventions for kids that help their health down the road. Yet she's also when the case merits it, open to watching and seeing a bit before making big jumps. We really like her and are so thankful we found them!

It's great to see how my kids have never resisted going to see Dr. Kaelin because she does a great job making them comfortable and expressing interest in how they are doing overall. Her staff is always friendly and professional as well. I highly recommend Dr. Kaelin as a pediatric dentist and suspect we may add to her credentials as a family practice dentist since my kids don't want to transfer to another dentist now that they are no longer in the pediatric age group!
