When my 3 handset developed a fault last Summer I contacted customer services who advised me to go to my local 3 store. When I went in I was greeted with some confusion, and was told that as I was an 'online customer' I would have to go back to customer services. The sales assistant did check the handset to confirm that there was a fault (I think I'd know if it was not a real fault!) and told me that I would be able to get a loan handset while mine was being repaired. This was not correct. I did eventually get my phone fixed, but the sales assistant at the shop didn't seem to have a clue what needed to be done. I must admit that I was put off going in and didn't bother again. Online is much easier! The store is small, so I dread to think what it would be like in there on a busy Saturday.
