Then I try my husband's horchata, which has the perfect amount of cinnamon and vanilla. They have good tacos and enchiladas, my husband is a fan of the tortas. But let me be clear I come for the Pozole Verde!! So many people like pozole or they like chicken tortilla soup, and you all miss this delicious herbaceous soup with a little kick. I feel good, I eat it. I have a cold, I eat it. I tried the other food and still took a bowl home. I haven't had a Pozole Verde this good since I left Texas. We came in yesterday. Sunday 6/28/26. It was our first time and when we pulled up to the parking lot we knew it was going to be fire! 2:30pm and packed. The wait was not bad. We were sat quickly and they got our drinks super fast! The mango margaritas were fantastic! Our sever said she would be back to take our oder....10 minutes passed and still no order...she finally came back about 15 minutes later, apologized and said she would be back in "two minutes" to take our order....I was excited to see a lot of authentic items on the menu and had a hard time deciding what I wanted. So I thought I would get the home made quesadillas with corn tortillas and consommé. Another 15 minutes pass and still no order taken. I observe her chatting with another server in the corner and taking several other orders until she finally realizes she forgot us. At this point I was getting a little impatient and decided we should just share some nachos and get out. Well, the nachos were not great. The shrimp was very overcooked, the steak was like rubber bands and there was maybe 2oz of chicken. The peppers and onions were raw and there was barely any cheese sauce on the damn chips. To say were were bummed is an understatement. We had somewhere to be a mile away at 4pm and thats why we changed our minds on what to order. Especially after it took almost a half an hour to get our order in. I really wanted the mole to be honest but I didnt want to have to wait any longer when we ordered and thats why we got nachos. Easy and quick. Now before anyone get all puffy about this review, know that I have worked in the industry for more than half my life at this point and I am expressing all this in hopes that someone in management will see this and address it to help make adjustments in the future. We werent mad, we just didnt finish the food or get what we really wanted because of the poor service and the poor quality of the proteins and vegetables. Our bill came to $37 and some change. We always tip at least 20% when the service is good. Just good. This service was not good whatsoever. The funny part is when she saw her tip. It was $6. Yea thats like barely 15% I know. Again we base tip off service and usually tip well over 20% when its great! We just couldn't justify more in this situation. Well, the woman at the register said some stuff to her server friend that was standing at the register as well.....not knowing that I speak spanish, let's put it this way, what she wasnt nice. Thats OK though, people can think what they like. To the server, do better. To the cooks, take a little more pride in your work that the sloppy overcooked proteins and raw vegetable mess of "nachos" . To the managers I hope you take this criticism to heart and fix the issue. Maybe have more than 2 servers and hire an actual host that isnt 12 years old that can handle the register. At least on busy days. I would love to give it another shot down the road. The menu looked fantastic. 2 kinds of pozole, mole, gorditas! So much tradition. The food of our people. While of out of town, my friend took me to one of his favorite restaurants, which is 3 De Mayo. He has mentioned before about how much he likes the Birria Tacos at this restaurant, and that he thought I would enjoy it as well. We went, and the ambiance of the restaurant was cool! It wasn't necessarily a "hole in the wall" type of restaurant, but it gave the vibes of a small, maybe family owned and neighborhood staple restaurant. Upon ordering, of course we received complimentary chips and salsa, which were good. The salsa had a bit of kick to it, and I don't know if the salsa was supposed to be mild salsa or not, but it was very spicy. We ordered an appetizer dish with chorizo and queso cheese (I can't remember the name). The appetizer dish was good! For the entree, I ordered shredded beef Quesadillas. The two quesadillas were huge! So there were good size portions. The quesadillas did taste a bit bland to me though. And the consommé was very salty in my opinion. Located in Pontoon Beach, Illinois, 3 De Mayo is the place to beat when it comes to great food, great service and great drinks. A short 15 minute drive from St. Louis is all it took to have a very pleasant experience. First , let's talk about chips and salsa. As most know chips and salsa are a staple in Mexican cuisine. Traditionally served while ordering and depending on the restaurant you can tell how the meal is going to go based on this simple dish. Chips were fresh and served hot, but the real treat was the salsa. Perfectly balanced salsa that's got heat and flavor. 3De Mayo was on praised on Yelp for its mangonada margaritas and boy did it deliver, what a delicious treat. A blended margarita with fresh mango that definitely hits the spot. They also serve plenty of cervezas if you're looking for a cold one with your meal. 3De Mayo's menu is a diverse selection of tacos, burritos, scopes and everything you can expect. One of my favorite Mexican dishes is menudo, and 3 De Mayo's version of the dish is one of the best. Next we ordered 3 De Mayo taquitos, 5 birria tacos served with consommé a broth used for dipping. Another knockout dish and was a healthy portion and could easily be a dish for two. Finally we ordered a Quesadillas 3 De Mayo platter of birria quesadillas also served with consommé and another home run! 3 De Mayo has plenty of seating and can accommodate large groups. We visited on a weekend and was busy, but we're able to find a seat to enjoy our meals. Tables were serviced quickly and restrooms were very cleaned. They also had great music that wasn't too loud that it took away from our experience. 3De Mayo is a great restaurant and anyone in the area who's looking for a excellent meal should give this a place a try. Immediately walking in you just know the food and ambiance is good because each table had groups all enjoying each other and their food complimented the conversations. We sat down and immediately got served chips and salsa and our drink order was taken (we opted for two Jamaica agua frescas - which were delicious). The food: Rice and beans - while they may look like anywhere else you go, I promise you they are the best. The beans were fresh and light, as was the rice. Just enough of everything - I wanted to eat it all but my 11 month old tore it up! Chili Relleno - I love a good relleno that doesn't have sauce and this one was incredible. It was fresh, it had an even temperature throughout and wasn't too heavy on batter. Quesadillas 3 de Mayo - they were two very large homemade corn tortillas stuffed with barbacoa, grilled cheese and the consume didn't make them soggy. The side of consume was excellent for dipping and just enhanced all the flavors. Caldo de birria - *the star of it all for me* Absolutely delicious. Here lately I've noticed a lot of places have used too much cinnamon in the caldo and this one was perfectly spiced. I am a fan of adding the fixings because it enhances flavors (be careful crushing up the chili de árbol because it releases natural oils when toasted and it'll stay on your fingers). But without the fixings the dish is equally as delicious. The birria was tender, and plenty in amount - I was full about half way through. Homemade corn tortillas - were fresh, tasty and if you've never had homemade corn tortillas this place does it right. My 11 month old loved them with her rice and beans. Overall 10/10 we will absolutely be back. It was a fun environment, felt lively with the guests, they had a beautiful wall with a neon sign that we didn't get a picture of, our 11 month old was comfortable and cried a few times and none of the other guests minded or the staff. Yelp is allowing 2 reviews so I will! This is the best Mexican food east of St. Louis. I found the Mexican food in Edwardsville over priced and bland. Mostly marketed towards the college crowd. In collinsville they opened a new Mexican restaurant( where the steak And shake is ) and I t was good but I had to delete my review of them on Yelp because there is no better place than this. The homemade tortillas make you feel like a little old grandma is in the back making them. They are soft, chewy, and flavorful. I didn't know that tortillas had flavor before! The quesadilla birria was my absolute favorite. If you order just the birria they will give you a huge delicious bowl of stew and tortillas on the side. Which is amazing. They offer an incredible array of different flavored popsicles and flan for dessert. I can't say enough about this establishment. read more

Placed a pickup order on a Saturday night for their quesadilla 3 de Mayo and steak asada tacos. The order was ready in no less than 15 minutes and was able to pick it up quickly. The quesadilla was huge and had great taste. The red and green salsas that come with the order were unbelievable and an absolute must to add with the food. The steak tacos were also very juicy and lived up to that very traditional street taco. This is a must go to and i will be coming back very soon. read more

So glad 3 de Mayo is getting the attention it deserves! I am visiting for the 4th time tomorrow and I'm so happy I'll be able to check-in A friend of a friend took her there and I met them, but had already eaten dinner. However, when I set my eyes on their quesadillas 3 de Mayo (traditional birria tacos), I fell in love and quite literally immediately planned a trip back here! I could only make room for a popsicle on the first visit, but boy did it hook me on their popsicles! I knew my kids had to try them. Once I finally got to taste the quesadillas 3 de Mayo, I was in Heaven. I mean it. Homemade corn tortillas marinated in a beef stew, then covered in cheese and thrown on the griddle and filled with more cheese and barbacoa and served with limes and beef consommé with lots of onions and cilantro, it will knock your freaking socks off! I drizzle the lime all over the tacos and then dip them in the consommé and the salsa. Don't forget to drink the consommé when you're done! The salsa is another stand out. It is smoky and fresh. I generally don't love a smoky flavor, but this stuff is amazing and a smoky salsa is also traditionally served with birria tacos, which are all the rage across St. Louis right now. If you are wanting to try them, stop here! Also, grab 5 popsicles with you to go. The cappuccino is mine and my son's fave! I told many friends about this place and they in turn told their friends and I personally know at least 10 couples that have tried it within the last month and everyone has raved about it.
