I have been training with 2SpeakDog since just before the COVID 19 pandemic. Kasey, the master trainer, is amazing at what she does and how she is able to connect the how to do the things with the why they are done the way she teaches. She not only focuses on obedience but how the relationship with your dog is the key to success and when your dog trusts you the two of you can do hard things. Being the pet parent to a reactive dog her methods have helped us immensely be able to be successful out in public, learn how to set appropriate boundaries and learn how to be an advocate for my dog. Love Kasey the head trainer and her methods. Can definitely see that she loves dogs and training them. The major downside to her company is whoever is their scheduler or handles the call backs. I had a family emergency that took us away from continuing puppy training classes. I get their messages to try to attend a makeup class, which we couldn't do at the time. I contact them politely asking them to call me back so I could talk about paying to take a followup class and pay the full amount again. I received no response after two attempts at emailing and another two attempts using their website to contact them. At the same with my other dog, she missed her walking class at this same time, and trying to reschedule this through her website by using the contact form was the same experience. I used the form to state we wanted to reschedule and also that we were interested in private lessons (since we believed in Kasey). We did receive an email saying that we would get a call back to schedule a week later. No call. Two weeks later, we get another email saying that we weren't forgotten and we would get a call. We're now over 2 months later, still no call. Guess we were forgotten. Spent money that we won't get back apparently. Also a potential customer for private lessons was lost. I give this a 1 star only for the fact that Kasey is awesome, else this business would get a 0. Her team member who does the scheduling is costing her business. I initially recommended 2SpeakDog to my vet at Bon Air Animal Hospital, but I'm going to rescind my recommendation at next followup. Again, Kasey is great, but I can't recommend a business like this where they don't contact you after multiple attempts of communication. I love my dogs, both rescues that I want to help become CGC credentialed and myself to become a better dog parent. I honestly felt as if I spun the wheel for 3 months with this company, and it enrages me! 3 months for a puppy is a long time. We attempted to use 2SpeakDog for puppy socialization as well as basic obedience...while our puppy did graduate the puppy class we had zero luck with basic obedience. I feel that the trainers have to have the owners say in EVERYTHING they do and this can take days for you to get an answer. I also feel that instead of addressing what we needed, the trainer/owner was insistent on doing things her way without any explanation as to why our dogs needs weren't being met. Needless to say we went another company and our sweet girl is so much better! Shop around and ask lots of questions before settling with 2SpeakDog. While they have obviously been good for some, they were not for us. I think it's important to make your expectations clear and if they cannot accommodate your needs, you should be told that up front. read more

Update on 7/19/2019 -- We've now finished all 7 sessions of the Basic I class and I can unfortunately confirm that the techniques did not work for my dog and me. My dog has a lot of fear, I think from abuse in a prior home, so he would probably be challenging for any class. I picked 2SpeakDog because I'd heard/read they do a good job with fearful/anxious dogs, not just aggressive dogs. I wasn't disappointed per se that the initial techniques she taught didn't work for us, as I knew he would be challenged. I was disappointed, however, that there was no opportunity to discuss or explore alternative techniques that could work for him until the graduation test, at which point it was too late. I think the trainer, Kasey, is extremely well-intentioned and would probably be able to do a great job with him if he was given the needed attention. The Basic I class just doesn't afford the opportunity to address any dog behaviors that fall outside of the typical examples already planned in the curriculum. 2SpeakDog seems to push all dogs to go through a standard series of classes, but perhaps they should make an effort to individualize their recommendations to the given dog because the standard class doesn't work for everyone. We even did the leash walking class they push so much, but the one they recommended we join was far too advanced for us. I've spent a fair amount of money for the private lesson, Basic I class, and leash walking class, and we did all the homework to a T, but we have very little to show for it. read more

For over 16 months I've tried to contact and set up and somehow never been able to get ANY help from this company, I live 1 street away spoken directly with the admin and owner/trainer multiple times, I sent my information and email to them and they threw my stuff in the junk mail folder. We, unfortunately, have not had a good experience. Our biggest issues were difficulties in setting up appointments and poor communication by the business. Our dog is difficult with other dogs and requires private lessons. We paid $1,000 and only managed to get two lessons in three months of trying. Finally, we had a lesson setup for last Wednesday and both my husband and I arranged our schedules to attend it (we both work full time). The trainer came, but then we received no lesson (she told us she wouldn't charge us, but how could she when we didn't get the promised lesson?). Instead she just talked with us about boarding the dog for two weeks with her for another $4,200. Getting no lesson after struggling to get one set up for two months was the last straw for us and we requested a refund for the remaining four private lessons. Now the company won't communicate with me and I will have to go to small claims court to try to get our money refunded. This is not reflection on the trainer's abilities or her love of dogs. I don't understand the business model as most businesses would either just refund the money for the remaining lessons or try to make things right with the customer. read more

We have been so thankful for 2SpeakDog and Kasey's expertise and wisdom throughout our new puppy journey. Everyone in our neighborhood recommended them, and we're so glad we tried them out! The techniques are spot on, classes are great, and she's awesome about answering your individual questions and unique problems. I've googled some of her techniques to share them with others bc of how great they work, but quickly realized they're truly her own (I couldn't find them anywhere!). Even gave us great advice outside of class when we were taking our pup on our first road trip to meet our family's animals. Always quick to reply to emails, and very responsive when we've needed anything. It will take discipline and commitment on the owner's part, but if you stick with it, you won't regret it! I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. We've done the basic obedience one class, the walking workshop and a private lesson. We've had Amy and Jen as trainers. Amy was awesome in the basic class. Jen came for the private session... it was awesome. She taught us so much about our pup and gave us so many tips and tricks to help make our home life better. Our dog is great, and so smart, but we needed help with some things for sure. This place is worth every single penny. We're doing the agility class and trick classes next! read more

It took a great deal of time and effort to get a call back to schedule an appointment. When I finally did it was expensive and I don't feel I got much out of it. Seems designed for dogs with in home bad habits instead of developing a good working relationship. Then getting the write up and review sheet from the trainer took another few weeks. By that time we had both forgotten a lot! I wouldn't recommend them unless there is one bad habit inside the house you want fixed and can do multiple sessions. We contacted 2speakdog when one of our 4 dogs started attacking another of our dogs. We could not figure out the behavior or how to control it. Kasey came to out house for a 2 hour assessment for $200. We learned we were not challenging our dogs or leading them correctly. She was right and we followed everything she said to do. We also paid for 2 additional private trainings with her. We started really controlling things and making them earn every reward- food, affection, activities. It was a lot of work, but individually, the dogs have been better. The aggression, however, did not subside. Kasey is a great trainer, but I am not sure if they have bitten off more than they can chew (they just got a new facility and offer classes, etc) but she was very lax in getting back to us or following up and she told us we would get our written assessment within a few days but we didn't. I emailed her and then emailed her and the main email address, she said she sent it but the file was possibly too big. We eventually received it but some of the sections were written for a dog named Oscar and didn't apply to us so it was clearly a template used for clients but not thoroughly reviewed for spelling, grammar, or prior client names and info. I guess my biggest disappointment is that i was really looking for someone to help us continue to work on the problem until it was better resolved. I emailed and texted her 6 weeks ago and never heard back so I guess we are on our own. We have been doing some of our own things researching it, living with gates and the dogs on leashes in the house, and are going to try prozac on the aggressive dog. To be fair, Kasey is good, she knows her stuff. I had also contacted other trainers who were either too busy to meet with us or who questioned me like i was abusing the dogs to cause the behavior (this is absolutely not the case) and then didn't get back to me so I could explain what happened (Brandy @ Spot on Spot). We just felt let down because this is an expensive service to invest in and not get a resolution. read more

2SpeakDog is amazing! The trainers are fabulous and are exceptional at working to give you the confidence and tools that you need to train your dog so that it responds to you. We have worked extensively with Kasey in several classes, lots of workshops and private lessons and we LOVE her!! Our dog has made so much progress with her help and just passed the Canine Good Citizen test! Kasey genuinely cares about her clients and goes above and beyond for them - after one class she took an hour of her time to work us through some issues I was concerned about with loose leash walking and meets and greets. She has also gone out of her way to meet us on her own time outside of class at dog-friendly events or places around town. She is so incredibly talented and passionate about what she does and has been there for us in and out of class/lessons to provide encouragement and support. We would not be where we are with a very well-behaved dog about to start therapy work without Kasey's help. In addition to helping and training with clients, she spends a lot of time working with dogs in various shelters helping to increase their chances of being adopted. I am so thankful that we ended up in Kasey's class and continue to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing trainer! I am really shocked that there was a bad review even submitted on Yelp regarding 2 Speak Dog. The price of classes are great compared to other facilities in Richmond and you don't have to wait for months to get into a class. Plus there are tons of workshops and classes to choose from. I have taken my dog to 3 classes so far and he has improved tremendously. He would pull on walks, jump on everyone, and could be down right stubborn. Basic Obedience I and II have really helped me learn how to correct his bad habits. Not only is my dog better all around I feel more confident and less frustrated while working with him. Kasey is truly amazing. She seeks each dog and dog owner out each class and literally teaches you what you should and should not be doing. You have to be willing to put in the time and effort. You can't take these classes and not do the homework with you pup. I feel I have learned so much while attending these classes and I truly don't think you will be disappointed at all. read more

My puppy and I have been working with 2Speak Dog for over 4 months now. Jen Kaiser helped me with my adoption and taught me the basics of crate and potty training. I adopted my puppy at 6 weeks and she has rarely made any potty mistakes (under 5 times), she also loves her crate and gladly enters on her own. Kasey has helped me and my puppy, Finn through puppy socialization and obedience I. She is uber enthusiastic and her passion translates into a very informative and entertaining class that pays off with follow through. They are organized and give a print out reminder and homework assignment with each lesson to help you stay engaged. My vet recommended them to me and I would recommend them to anyone who asked. read more
