Saw smoke rolling - great sign

We found 2nd Hand Smoke on Yelp driving from Chi to Det. Fairly close to interstate. Always love to search out small places in out of the way places - almost always pleased. Saw smoke rolling as we arrived right at 7pm on a Friday, great sign. Place was empty, not so great sign. Ordered pork belly burnt ends and wife ordered pulled pork sandwich. The pork sandwich was really good. The pork belly burnt ends were terrible. I imagine they had been sitting around all day long - couldn't get my plastic fork to stick into the small hard nuggets. Very chewy and tough. Sauce helped but VERY disappointed. Sides were good - really enjoyed the corn nuggets (mostly hush puppy balls with a few pieces of corn in it). I'd give Second Hand BBQ a second chance (see what I did there?) if I was a local but would not return as a traveler.

stopped by on the way into kalamazoo and so glad i did ! it was empty on a sunday afternoon, but don't be fooled. the food and service is fantastic. we ordered a 3 meat platter (comes with two sides and a soda). it was plenty of food for two people for around $25. they also have four bbq sauces that you're welcome to try. there was only one employee but he answered all of our questions and even checked on us after our meal. the restaurant is quite small and has both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a clean one stall restroom. there's a dirt parking lot out front as well. it's a little off the main road/freeway but worth the drive if you're in SW michigan. would eat again !

Killer BBQ coming out of this truck! Everything was great, especially the ribs, Mac and cheese, and the pickles onions and jalapeños are the perfect side to cut all the richness. Can't wait to try more of the menu next time I'm in the Kzoo area

We had them cater an event of about 100 people. The food was some of the best BBQ ive had. Loved their beans too. Friendly people.

We were under the impression that it would be a half pig but turns out it was cut up in pans ready to eat and it was all dark meat so I'm assuming it was all pork butts that he roasted. Don't get me wrong, I love pork butts I just thought it was going to be a 1/2 pig so there would be some loin in with the rest of the dark meat. It was served with buns (just average store buns). The house-made corn dip with chips was really good and spicy. The cowboy caviar with chips was also good. It was corn, beans, peppers and tomatoes. It could've used some salt and it was a bit watery but I still liked it. The baked beans were alright, nothing special. Small beans with pulled pork, brown sugar and bbq sauce. They were also a bit runny but they seemed to thicken up a bit the longer they sat on the burner keeping warm. I wasn't a fan of the mac & cheese. I liked that they used cavatappi pasta, but it was very bland and was really soupy. I later read the menu to see that my assumption of it being made with cheese sauce was accurate. There was no baked cheese on top that I think would've helped maybe. The potato salad was made with quite large chunks of potato (larger chunks than I prefer) and they were a bit undercooked in my opinion. There was also black olives and carrots in it which I also did not like. Most of us questioned if it was store bought potato salad with added olives in it. The cole slaw was nothing special. It was very large pieces of shredded cabbage & carrots and seemed like maybe it came right from GFS and into a pan. They did bring 4 different kinds of bbq sauce that they make that were great. I personally wouldn't be ordering from here when I see them at a fair/festival/event nor will I pay to have them cater an event I'm hosting. I am glad I was able to try it and form my own opinion. I've even world class bbq and this was not it. I've attended Memphis in May a few times and also been to the Carolina's and Texas for bbq that have won many awards so I do feel like my opinion of this is accurate.

The guy hands me my bag and this was such a disappointment to see (see photo). I was going to walk back and ask him about the lack of pico but there was a line and I didn't want to cut in line or make a scene. First, there were no smiles from either staff working in the truck. If anything, they appeared annoyed. Second, if they were running out, just tell their customers and either charge less or offer another side. We've ordered from 3 trucks in the area and 2 out of the 3 were a similar experience (no smiles, appears annoyed). For a food truck, even though it's lobster, it's overpriced and overrated. I refuse to order from them again.

Cousin's truck is a luxury motor home tricked-out with all the latest bells and whistles of high tech. I ordered up their Me Lobster Roll and a cup of lobster bisque and headed home to shelter from the rain. Food was a bit pricey and, in my opinion, fairly bland. There were big chunks of lobster in the sandwich but little seasoning or taste, I have had the Lobster Roll at Cove in Portage which was really delish dish with a great view for the same price. I probably will not try Cousins again.
