Like Dr. Who's bow tie, it was COOOOO-OOOOL. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? said husband, dropping his laundry basket on the floor. It's cute, it's "anthropologie style". What does that mean?he said. "I don't think it's cute. It's hideous." Software engineers. Go figure. Showing him the Anthropoligie website, he said, "People pay MONEY for that?It's old beat up stuff." After trying to explain to him the virtues of character, personality, patina, interest, charm vs. new, utilitarian, clean, etc. etc. i sort of gave up on him. Yes, dude, yes they do. But I don't like to pay that much. I like funky, fun, little stores with hidden treasures. Speaking of which, I had been driving past this store for weeks, always just missing their open hours. It's in a bizarre place, on the corner of West Union and Cornelius Pass Road, by Allstate. Across from where Sweet Oregon Grill used to be (RIP, sniffle sigh). I finally got in there, and I was so right to be excited, this fun little store is loaded with treasures. Stressed, shabby chic, kitschy, cute, adorable, wonderful, REASONABLE, little treasures. I picked up a wooden book shelf for a pittance. I plan to paint it. It's going to hold stuff. Maybe more stuff from this store? Apparently, the woman who runs it ( wasn't there when I was in) specializes in painting old things and making them awesome. You can tell, there are a lot of awesome one of a kind things in here, including garden art,old jewelry, wall art, painted letters, lamps, pillows, little adorable wooden boxes that are actually CD holders but look like bird houses, you know. NEATO stuff. I saw something else in there I really wanted. I have to figure out how to justify it. Hubby? well, he can go buy some more stainless steel shelving for the garage. BO-Ring.

However, I had to pat myself on the back today because I remembered to come to this funky fun store and wander through the shop and shop. I didn't buy anything today, but I think it's one to keep on my list because I have friends and family who would be very pleased to get something from Wink (and I'd be perfectly happy to buy myself something there as well). There is a melange of vintage and antique items and upcycled items made by the owner. The items made or upcycled by the owner are very nicely done, very professional looking, and prices are quite reasonable. I really liked her handmade jewelry and various painted pieces of furniture. There's an excellent assortment of vintage/antique goodies, and I saw a pitcher and glass set that I think my grandmother had in her kitchen back in the day. Her nice vintage lamps are pretty and in great shape; I have a friend obsessed by vintage lamps, so this is the place to tell her about to feed her habit. One thing I appreciate about WINK is that its clean and well-dusted; I don't sneeze or cough here, an usual state of affairs for me when I shop in a lot of vintage/antique shops. The store owner is very friendly, but not intrusive. I stopped to look at a grouping of pictures on the wall and she told me the stories about how the pictures were of her mom's first couple of stores and then her first WINK store in Lake Oswego. It was pleasant to hear the story. I enjoy back stories and personal histories and it's the perfect way to draw people in without having to do the old hard sell; nothing better than just keeping it natural and going with the flow. She is also very knowledgeable about her items and can answer questions quickly with a wealth of information. I'm sure I will be back to buy from this great shop because of its items perfect for many friends and families, but also because of the owner and her excellent brand of interacting with people turning it into acustomer service art form. The store is situated in a former shopping center…read more While it's not as large as a Goodwill or Salvation Army or Value Village, the store is larger than most single-charity thrift stores. Selection includes a wide range of merchandise such as housewares, crafts, books, furniture, sporting goods, and separate areas for men's, women's, teen's and children's clothing. Clothing is an especially good value when they run "basket sales" for $5. For approximately the first 15 years or so the Top Notch Thrift Store was overseen by woman with retail management experience from the retail store Nordstrom (American luxury department store chain headquartered in Seattle, Washington). Now for the most recent few years, approximately 2022 and on, the store has gone through about one manager a year. Much of the original staff left as well, which is too bad as they were friendly. Some of the new staff are great, some less so. The bargains are always there though. Note: it's also across the street from a coffee and chocolate shop.

It's kinda like a rabbit warren, with a hidden room here, a downstairs area, and you just kinda follow the flow to check things out. I got some stickers (always my favorite souvenir) which I was not expecting at an antique store. so much inventory, beautifully displayed, and cute little things like the wall near the stairs has these holes in the bricks, so they put tiny little mice toys in those holes for you to discover. Getting into the Woodland Action thrift store takes some effort. It's a little hard to find the…read moreentrance, and it may not be clear whether it's even open at first. But once you're in, you'll find a surprisingly big space! They're located inside a warehouse, and the back loading dock is for deliveries. The ground floor is the food bank. For the thrift store, go up the external flight of stairs to the lime green door. Inside, the store is pretty big. Books and jewelry are up front, and in mid-November, they had A LOT of Xmas decorations: wreaths, ornaments, gift bags and cards, glassware and dishes. The majority of the store is housewares, and they even have a furniture section in the middle of the floor. The book selection is also pretty decent. Clothing is less well represented. There's one side room with men's and women's clothing, and it's not a big selection. Kids' clothing is on the main floor, and there seems to be more of that than adults' clothing. Most of the clothes had flat prices by the type of item, and were pretty reasonably priced. They also had a special where you could fill a bag with clothes for $6, so it seems like they offer additional sales and discounts. Prices seemed a bit high on the housewares and kitchen appliances for what they were. But the clothes and books were fairly priced, so it may just depend on what you're looking for. Overall, not someplace I'd go out of my way for, but if you find yourself in Woodland and want to do some thrifting, the Action Center is here for you!
