Their artists have also done work for most of the Alamo Drafthouse locations and numerous corporate clients around the city. As if that weren't cool enough, SprATX is also the creator of #ATXFreeArtFriday https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/atxfreeartfriday/, a weekly art scavenger hunt in which artists of all levels (from hobbiests to professionals) hide their work (stickers, canvases, screenprints, sculptures, textiles, anything goes) throughout the city. The artist posts clues on Instagram and waits for a lucky treasure hunter to find the stash. The finders post their "I found it!" reactions online, tag the artist and #ATXFreeArtFriday, and the cycle continues. The diverse 30+ member collective includes amazing local street scene artists like ZUZU, Roshi K, G52, Truth, Lucas Aoki, and Drib, whose works you've likely viewed all over town. The collective also serves as an incubator for talent around the country through their Artist Exchange Program, which pairs artists from Austin and other cities to co-create murals which are then created and revealed in the partner artist's city. Part of it called for airbrushing but I don't airbrushing and didn't want to learn it just for this one piece. Then, I came across an airbrushed mural Amy had done on the grounds of Casa de Luz, my favorite vegan restaurant in Austin. Fortunately, she signed it "Airbrush by Amy." I immediately looked her up and a days later, she came to my studio and did the airbrushing -- beautifully! This curiosity led me to West Chelsea Cellars Contemporary gallery on 6 th. Street. They also have a presence in New York's Chelsea district. The gallery focuses on contemporary art pieces, highlighting works of artists such as Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst. They also focus on emerging and mid-career artists. I was immediately greeted at the entry by a gallery staff member. He then told to peruse the art works at my leisure. The building is spacious with a great deal of room between the exhibits. The floor to ceiling windows facing 6th street generates a great deal of natural light. The art works are in a large range of price points, provided upon request.
