He's 77, born in San Francisco, educated in Marin (his mom was a teacher at a Catholic school), owned his own pipe fitting company for 25 years, then sold it to sail around the world 3 times, got pirated off the coast of Malaysia (ask him about that incident), and decided to retire in Twentynine Palms. He said "where else can you buy a house for 69K?" [not currently!] We talked about COVID, the vaccine, CDC stats, and his friend who was in a motorcycle accident. Rambling conversation about that, border issues, and how he gets his merchandise (estate sales, auctions, etc.). His shop had a string of drop-in's during this conversation whom he greeted in a low-key friendly manner. I bought some jewelry that was in a glass case at the counter, very reasonable and unique. He even gave me a gold paper box for safekeeping. As for the store: each room has a theme: household decorative items, kitchen items, furniture, a book area, and a huge selection of clothing including children's. The place feels airy and well organized for a thrift shop. Come take a look and say hi to Roger or his wife Patti. You won't be disappointed.

From the moment you step inside, the whole space feels effortlessly chic and inviting, almost like wandering through a beautifully styled desert living room. The decor pieces, furniture, and housewares are thoughtfully curated -- elevated, artistic, and full of personality. My fiancé and I had a great time exploring every corner and imagining what would come home with us... and of course we couldn't leave empty-handed. We picked up some amazing incense paired with a pottery ash catcher, I love that it looked handmade but yet refined -- exactly the kind of unique find you hope for in a specialty shop. I live in Los Angeles, but I stop by here just about every month to delve through the treasures. They have a wide selection, and the inventory seems to turn over quite rapidly, so I'm always finding some new treasure to take home. Prices are very reasonable, and the proprietors have a knack for stocking the store with eye catching mechandise. If you are like me and you love the thrill of the hunt, spend your day treasure seeking along Highway 62. After you finish your journey at Desert Bohemian Trading Post, hang a right at the north entrance to Joshua Tree National Park and reward yourself with scenic drive homeward through the Joshua Trees. It makes for a wonderful day.

This very large store shockingly does not offer public restrooms which I find extremely surprising because they offer so much to look at and their prices are a little higher than the surrounding stores but they value their customers so little that they won't offer them a restroom. That is why I am subtracting one star but I'm subtracting a second star because when I asked the owner at the counter if they had a public restroom she was very short and blunt with me and her response of no and that I can go to another business across the street followed by the expression that I was exhausting her while she spoke to the floor. The way she spoke to me made me feel like I was nothing more than a dollar sign and the lack of restrooms solidified that feeling. If I could subtract half of a star further for her lack of customer service in the way that she spoke to me I would also do that but alas I will be leaving three. We did find some really fascinating pieces in the store which unfortunately we had to put back but among those items were vintage bottles, books and a sewing machine. They have such a great variety here. My recommendation is to have you and your children use the restroom before coming to this establishment and to be sure you do not have coffee or any fluids before walking around this labyrinth antique store.
