The owner didn't leave one stone unturned ... you can tell she is a fashion addict in the choices she has made for her store. Clothing's for ALL ages... primarily for women but there are some really cool western style Brixton clothing here for MEN as well. While this lovely store offers an array of home décor and unique gifts, my baby needed the perfect dress! The thing that is striking about the store is that it captures the feel of the high desert--bohemian yet rustic. My daughter, who has very specific tastes, adored the locally-inspired clothing, stylish boots, and the perfect accents that brought the outfit together. The lady running the store was incredibly helpful, offering suggestions without being pushy. She genuinely took the time to understand my daughter's preferences and helped us navigate through the options, making the experience enjoyable and stress-free. Thanks to her, we found the ideal dress, and my daughter was thrilled! I guess this place is under new management. With the old reviews.... I could only imagine what had happened. My experience here was pretty amazing. We saw this boutique as we were on our way to Joshua Tree. We stopped by for food and out of curiosity walked in this this cute boutique. Im so glad that we did! We were greeted as we walked in, was offered a dressing room, and the girls made great outfit suggestions. They have really cute outfits in here. We were there for Stagecoach and I found me the cutest skirt. Overall, my experience here was great! My friend found the perfect hat here too! read more

Stopped by the store on my way into Joshua tree. It has a really great selection of women's clothing, festival type wear, boots, and home decor. I had picked up some really cute candles on my first trip there. I hosted a tea and my mom and friends really liked the candles and asked me to get more on a return trip. I stopped in again and Cat remembered me. She is such a wonderful employee. She cares about her customers and making their shopping experience an enjoyable one. She has good recommendations of items. I STRONGLY don't recommend. Unfortunately if you are a person of color and or LGBTQ avoid like the plague. It's very obvious they have a preferred demographic and disregard everyone else. I was excited and wanted to shop/support local businesses but was greeted with rude, snarky and condescending looks. I don't recommend and will be taking my money elsewhere. I left feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. Note to management, 90% of your customers are from out of town, treat all with kindness or your business will suffer. Stopped in from out of town during Joshua Tree trip, so glad we did. Very cute boutique with stylish Boho options bith their name brand & others I.e Free People. Upon entering we were greeted by an employees who was vacuuming. She welcomed us and provided us a dressing room upon request. She reviewed their current sales happening in store and let us know she's around if we needed any help. Found a really cute long dress their brand (can't wait to wear). When there was nothing like the original item. When I spoke to the lady I received no response. I still bought the item, and wish I had a better encounter. Update on 11/4: I wanted to edit my review to include the phenomenal follow up I received from Desert Nest (moved from two stars to five). After seeing my review, the store owner reached out to me personally to (1) apologize for the customer experience I had and (2) package up and ship the beautiful piece of artwork that I originally wanted. HAPPINESS. I was simply blown away by the very thoughtful and genuine response. I'd like to recognize Desert Nest for doing the right thing -- quickly responding and addressing a customer complaint with grace and humility. And just like that, my faith in humanity is restored. *********** I visited this store when on a family trip to Joshua Tree. I loved all of the items and spent a good hour just browsing -- I ended up spending over $200 on items (and yes, I did sense a little 'gruffness' like the other reviewers did). I was especially interested in a piece of artwork but ultimately decided to pass it up. When I got back home, I realized the artwork would be perfect in our bathroom so I called the shop and asked if it was still available. It was! I assumed they would ship it but the manager said they don't ship household items. Ok, I sadly accepted that. I asked if she could just take a picture of it so I could try to match it somewhere else but she said 'I only have my personal phone so I can't' Huh?! WOW. You can't take a simple photo to help a fellow human out? I hope it was worth the bad review. For all the jesus stuff they have in there, they aren't very nice. read more

My wife spent $150 in clothing in home accessories on a recent visit ... she bought a package of boxers for me as my luggage had been delayed three days by Delta Airlines( another story for another day) My luggage did arrive that evening so some of the clothing wasn't necessary... they refused even in-store credit for the unopened boxers. Unhelpful and not recommended. Sorry. We support small businesses ... but this refusal for return/exchange isn't fair. Our next purchases won't be here. read more

We recently bought a house in Yucca Valley and were looking around for local furniture stores before shopping online. Our house was completely empty at this point and needed a lot of pieces to get it started. Desert Nest has a cute storefront and, right behind it, there was a secondary furniture location with a giant "NOW OPEN" sign flapping in front of it. We walked into the main location in the front, approaching the three ladies at the desk, since the furniture store seemed dark and politely asked if the furniture store was open. I assume it was the manager who responded, but not entirely sure. We were met with a disdainful laugh and a "No, it's not open." I asked when it might be open. She said, "once I can find employees." I responded with, "Does that mean it's closed indefinitely?" just trying to get some piece of helpful information. She said, "No." I asked if she knew when it might be open and she shrugged and said, "Maybe next Wednesday." At that point we just left. It was incredibly difficult to get any helpful response and the general demeanor of the manager was an unpleasant mixture of dismissive and hostile. If you're looking for furniture, Acme 5 close by is a great option. read more

My sister told me about this place because she loves it. Then when I read the reviews, I found myself a bit anxious to go. Some people made it sound like the people that worked there were awful. I shouldn't have been anxious. Our experience was fantastic. We were helped by Maddie who was honestly total sunshine, very friendly, and helpful. Was super excited to come in here while visiting since the shop looked super cute. But... the staff were rude and gave off super weird vibes. I think this came from the fact that i was there with my partner, who is also a female. as soon as we walked in we got super rude looks and whispers, and not even a welcome in. If you are LGBTQ+, go shop somewhere else. there are so many amazing welcoming spaces in the area. read more

We live local to the store and have enjoyed shopping there for all of the many unique gifts, even though they tend to be pricey. We are still in shock over purchasing wood votive candle holders that came with the little votive battery, but when we got home, we discovered, the LED votives had been removed from our bag with our many other purchases. When we called the store and talk to the manager Stephanie, she told us that they were only for display and that we did not purchase those with the base. I was shocked because there were no signs saying for display only , as she indicated, so somehow we should've known that? No one said anything at the time of purchase at the register at all. When she asked how she could help me, I said I would have someone stop by to pick those two LED lights up and she said that wasn't an option. When I then asked for a return for both of these items, she said everything is final purchase. So we weren't sure how she could help us when she was providing no resolution. When I expressed my dismay at how silly it was for them to lose such a valuable customer over something that wasn't our fault, she promptly hung up on me. So for small businesses, who have a great store in this economy, it seems like you need to value your customer over any non-disclosed policy that you don't make clear to your customers at any time before during or after the purchase. I really like the store, but this was handled very poorly and the week of Christmas makes it even worse. I would have never purchased the base without the votive candles that were in them at time of purchase. She admitted there were no signs posted anywhere in a store that all votive LEDs inside of products do not come with the product. I'd like to think they would call me back to make it right but I'm not expecting that. read more

I tried to return something in under a two week window and apparently there is a 7 day return policy which I was not aware of. They give digital/emailed receipts when you purchase and I did not read the fine print. The shirt was not worn, still had tags and I even had the original bag I was given when I purchased. They would not return, or even exchange. As a working mom w a two year old, I find this return policy to be very unfair, and their unwillingness to even make an exchange was very off putting. I would love to support small business owners but this left me w a bad experience and will not be returning. read more

Such a bummer. We found this store last year and have since been three times. Last two times, I spent several hundred dollars on clothing, decor, hats, cow heads and jewelry. We came in today, intending to drop all the spending money possible. We had our two kids with us, who are very well behaved and also had their own spending money. We were browsing around and my kids were looking at jewelry to buy. My daughter came running up to me crying say the owner told them they couldn't be by themselves and had to be with their parents. As a parent, I will tell you DO NOT reprimand my child. If you have an issue with them you come tell ME. Not a problem if that's your store rules but no need to be a crotchety lady and scare a couple of kids. We left immediately and won't be back. Such a shame to handle your business this way. Desert Nest Ruins Moms Christmas! I live locally in Yucca Valley and have spent thousands of dollars at this store. A few days before Christmas I was there shopping for Mom. Picked out some cool clothing for her Christmas gift. I was told by the manager that I could return/exchange/store credit if needed. I would have never spent $500 otherwise as I'm Xmas shopping. Then tried to exchange for a credit... not only would they not give credit they wouldn't even allow me to exchange for her correct size. Way to go desert nest ruining Xmas for my mom! read more

Shoppers beware. Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews on this place before going in and was so excited when I first opened the door into the shop. Unfortunately, while the selections are good, the service was horrible. And when I say horrible, I don't use that lightly. From the start, as my good friend and I walked around the shop it felt odd and like I was being followed. I'd look at something and next thing you know someone from the staff was not far behind almost bothered that I touched something. While trying on clothes, I opened the door so my friend could assess the outfit I chose and an employee came up, without warning told her to move and closed the door in my face. When I asked what just happened, she said she needed to let someone else in the other room. No warning, no excuse me, no just a moment while I move past you. Just a door close in my face. Trying to be unbothered I went to the front with my selection. There was a woman at the counter so I said "I think I'm good to go". She rudely said "someone else will be back to help you". Still thinking she may just be busy or distracted, I waited for another girl to arrive back to the counter. We exchanged what I believe to be pleasant words and when done I went to check on my friend who was still trying on clothes. She was still in the room, so I started to look at more items. Found a pair of pants I liked and with a store associate next to me, pulled them over my shorts, as I had a sundress on that didn't require me to reveal anything. They weren't the right size, so the girl politely said she would go look for what I needed. Seconds later from the front of the store that same woman who wouldn't help me earlier yelled "she's gonna put you in a room". Referring to an employee walking towards me. I told the girl "oh I'm waiting on another size from the back" and she said "well you need to go in the room". I told her I was still looking at some other stuff while I waited (shorts in hand). She rudely responded "you have on our clothes and can't wear them outside of the room". Which I should add was only steps away from the mirror set up to look at the outfits, which was also not in the dressing room. I quickly responded by saying in a very low and calm voice, but direct... "there's no need for you to be rude with your tone, it's unnecessary". She rolled her eyes walked to the room to unlock it". While this was happening I saw the girl coming back with the pants I'd asked for so I actually still thanked the girl who let me in and went inside. She literally slammed that door in my face once I stepped foot inside. I opened it back up abruptly and in shock and saw her walking to the front and the girl with the right size pants now hiding them and saying "I guess we don't have your size". At that moment the woman from the front said "if you guys are done you can leave". I told her I'm still wearing their clothes so clearly not done. She said well you need to leave. At this point I had all I could do not to make a scene, but the friend I was with lives here in Joshua tree and I would never want to make things weird for her. (Though she has since made it clear she will not be stepping foot back in this store). I instead asked the woman, who had now come from the front of the store to across from my dressing room "do you want me to leave with your clothes on or...". She said I want you to use common sense. WOW! All this because her sales associate was rude to me and obviously went up and told her that I didn't allow her to continue speaking to me that way. Long story short, I went into the dressing room, took off the pants I actually really liked and wanted to buy but couldn't even if she'd let me because I wouldn't want to give another dollar to this store, and walked towards to the front door. She followed behind us to make sure we left. When I got into the car with my friend I told her what had originally happened when I was checking out and concluded maybe it was a race thing. They were 4 white women/girls. All but one rude, and I am a mixed race woman. She then pulled up the reviews and that's where we saw the only other review this store had was saying almost the exact same thing. I am not one to write 5 page reviews, but if I can save just one person from having that same experience, then it was worth it. read more

The employees follow guests around as soon as they enter the doors. Their behavior is not welcoming, instead suspicious. Personally, I feel like I am being watched as a possible shoplifter. It is a very unsettling feeling. The manager at the place has an unkind tone at anyone that asks for help. Let me start by saying I truly loved this store. I shopped them to be supportive to our local businesses and they had stylish clothing and decor. I frequented their first location quite often, shopping for a wedding outfit, date night etc. I was thrilled when they announced they were relocating and expanding their store. The two original ladies who were often there and were great and helpful. Customer service was excellent which made me very happy. Unfortunately as the new store opened things changed. I no longer saw familiar faces, only attitudes, unwillingness to help with sizes that weren't labeled just an overall unsatisfying experience. Despite this i still enjoyed the store so I overlooked the poor customer service. Prices weren't competitive, probably priced more for tourist but didn't hinder my shopping habits. The last and final straw for me was when my lovely 70 year grandmother came to visit me from Palm Desert. I was so excited to show her around and bring her to this store. We had a lovely time looking around until we realized we were basically being followed. Everything I touched was immediately fixed or straightened. We spent a decent amount of time shopping, had assortment of things I loved. My grandma spotted a very unique planter holder made of I guess twigs which she loved so much. Now mind you it wasn't cheap costing $130. We were briefly told at one point there were various sales 20 & 30 percent off of things. So we asked the sales clerk if this particular item was on sale. She told us she would have to ask the manager which at that exact moment came from the back area. We asked her politely if this was on sale. She stopped us mid sentence and said no. We laughed and said darn ok, she was very supercilious in her responses which really threw me off. The price really didn't matter and I told my grandma of course I will buy it for you. When she went to bring it to the check out area she asked the manager if she will hold it back there while we finished shopping. I was listening in the distance and she very rudely said, "are you going to buy this?" Not in an informative way, but in a disrespectful, raised eye brows, judgmental kind of way. I was furious when I saw the way she spoke to her, as I am constantly asked if they want to take my items to the front till I check out. In the fitting room area I was trying on a dress, a top and a bra. I wasn't comfortable coming out to show my grandma the bra so I asked her to come in with me. That was met with a pounding knock at the door, saying store policy was one at a time. I can understand store policy and I of course wanted to follow the rules. But I can tell you it wasn't an enforcement of the rules type of interaction. After basically being followed at every table I said let's just go, I felt entirely uncomfortable however my grandma was in love with the planter. I wanted to pay and leave the store. During the transaction my grandma wanted to let the manager know how I felt and how our experience was there. Ultimately I just left I had no intentions of giving this business anymore of my money especially with the managers smug look. I can only imagine if I would've been treated better if I had dressed differently that day, wore my jewelry etc. If this is an across the board treatment than It's really disappointing. I am a 14 year local who really enjoyed supporting small businesses and I still will with the exception of this store. If your intention is to sell for your owners business then you need training because quite frankly you did the opposite and lost a customer. read more
