AVOID USING THIS COMPANY!!!! You can verify with other posts that I really never post negative reviews but I promise you that the extra time to drive into Evergreen or Denver will be worth it. And I'm big on using our local businesses. We've had minor issues with these guys in the past (we've lived up here 20 years), but nothing major until we rented an excavator from them. The story is long and tedious and riddled with lies from the owner Joe and his daughter. The end result was $250 for 3 hours of use, 2 wasted weekends (was told we'd get it as soon as it was repaired, so we didn't reserve one elsewhere...only to learn that they rented it to someone else and of course then too late to rent elsewhere), several exasperating conversations with a smug and arrogant owner and a promise that we will never use this company again. read more

This service here is not good. The owner is rude and doesn't help homeowners find what they are looking for. Home depot down the road has better equipment and more helpful people. It's a-shame too because it had so much potential. read more

I rented a large chipper for the day. With all the fees it was $600.00 . The chipper is well past its lifetime. I used the same one 10 years ago. It worked fine then. Now you have to stop several times putting anything through or it will stall out. It took twice as long to do the job this time. read more

I've had a few experiences over the years with 285. I prefer to give my money to local and small businesses over big box ones like Home Depot but in some cases I would not gamble here. If the tool is not too expensive or broken down I'd go there only because the city is far away. A few years ago I met them at the door while returning a box trailer. They said that they were closed so come back in the morning to do the paperwork. I came back in the morning a few hours after they opened and although the trailer sat in their yard, ready to rent they charged me an extra day since the paper work was not closed out. I helped out a neighbor that rented a skid loader, when they declined the insurance 285 went ahead and doubled the rental charge on their credit card until it was returned without notifying them of that policy. When confronted about billing practices their response was "what do you do for a living"? After the response, "That's nice, I don't tell you how to do your job, don't tell me how to do mine." A neighborhood kid that worked there doing small engine repair told me they teach them that the customer is always wrong. Also, if you are in a hurry never tell them that because they are deliberatly told to take their time. The owner works every day of the year. When asking for time off during the holiday he got the response that work should come before family. I rented a Kabota tractor and had no problem other than snide remarks about how I "attempted" to clean it (after spending 20 minutes hosing it down at the carwash). I rent the big items from HD just to make sure I don't get shafted when thier old junk breaks down on me. I take a gamble on the small stuff. On the flip side of it all I hear they do donate to charities and local causes. I'd just be cautious and understand where they come from in thier business practices. read more

Went to rent a log splitter. Get it home and it won't run. End up taking it back. The owner said it was fine. I wanted another machine. Ended getting into a shouting match with owner. Don't rent from these Sob's !!! read more

I can't imagine why anyone would do business here. I called ahead. Showed up down to the minute when I said I would. The guy throws his stuff across the desk and a tantrum because I wanted to rent something at 5:01. Then told me to go rent it somewhere else. Totally unprofessional. I'll be driving down the mountain to rent equipment. I'm a contractor, I'm used to people being direct, but this was way out of line. read more

Called to find out about renting a item and the guy answers and says 285 rentals and I started talking and he hangs up. I called back and said don't hang up so quick and he smart mouthed me snarkily telling me it was my fault for not talking fast enough. I told him never mind, he apparently doesn't want my business. I was treated very poorly by this company and would NEVER go back. Sad part is, when I am doing work in Conifer, I try never to go down to Denver for anything and try to spend my money locally for hardware and supplies...but that ended with tis experience, so other companies are paying the price for this situation. If I have to go to Morrison Home Depot to rent stuff, then I certainly will buy things there as well instead of making multiple trips. I rented a floor pad sander that wouldn't even put a dent in the floor and even with 20 grit (yes, 20 grit) sandpaper it went nowhere. I spent hours (yes, hours) trying to make it work (different spots, keeping it in the same spot, different grits) and finally started to use my own hand belt sander to take down the high spots on my hardwood floor and then try to reuse the pad sander. My hand sander worked so why not the pad sander? So I worked the high spots with my hand sander, and then tried the rented floor pad sander again and again, the same result. VERY FRUSTRATING. After hours I gave up and returned the floor sander, explained the situation, and asked if I could exchange it for a drum sander. He said no because I had wanted the pad sander, so if I wanted the drum sander, I had to rent and pay for BOTH sanders. I even showed the guy the sandpaper that looked about brand new because it didn't do anything, but he refused. Not only did the equipment (floor pad sander) not work, I got beat up on the price because I had to rent both sanders to do one job! I did because I needed to finish but it was brutal work and getting ripped off sucked. No thank you. I don't need to be treated like s*** and get ripped off. I hope they go out of business. read more

I rented a skid steer from them and will do so again. They were great to work with and there were no extra charges. The skid steer worked great for the weekend that I rented it. read more
