Absolutely terrible experience…read more We booked this Airbnb expecting a normal stay, but instead got constant stress and zero transparency. The host never properly explained the noise policy, and suddenly we were being threatened with fines and eviction over things that were never clearly communicated. At one point, random people showed up, claimed we had to leave, gave us a "2-hour notice" with no documents, and even disabled the door access. Completely unprofessional and honestly felt unsafe. This ruined our entire trip. No support, no accountability, just pressure and intimidation. Would NOT recommend to anyone. Be very careful booking here -- what you see is definitely not what you get.

Hiking at 49 palms was a daily activity for me. A perfect 3 mile hike (Part of Joshua Tree National Park) that had ALL you can want from a hike and it was only about 4 minutes from the house. I 100% RECOMMEND anyone and everyone to consider this home as an awesome place to live in the up and coming 29 Palms area and if you are lucky enough to speak with Susan, you can be assured that everything she says is 100% accurate --as it was for me.

The property is far enough from the highway that there is no road noise, and the neighboring properties are zoned to allow privacy when lounging in the yard. Our rep was Susan, and in the evening when we found ourselves a little confused with the satellite remote control, she was just a phone call away. She also had recommendations for dining out in the area, but we elected to use the gas grill that is also provided on the property. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, with a wonderful enterprise running it all. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to our friends and associates.

MY 600TH REVIEW!!!!…read more I wanted to save #600 for someone special and Desert Star is the best! I was looking for a quality, reasonably priced hotel for a quick trip to Palm Springs and Yelp sent me the right way on this one for sure! These are just some of the things we loved: -calm atmosphere without being stuffy -bikes to use while you are there -bungalows with all the cooking facilities to make you feel at home -postcards pre-stamped in the room so we could write our friends -super stylish digs -nicely maintained pool area with fire pit -our own private patio with fire pit and BBQ -really, really sweet hosts who made us feel totally at home I just can't say enough good things about out experience. I have stayed at some super expensive 5 star hotels all over the world and nothing compared to this. This is hands down my favorite place I have ever stayed. When I am stressed out and wanting a vacation, being at the Desert Star is what I fantasize about!

This review is for the "Rio House". The house is in the Monument Manor sub-division uphill from HW 62, only a half mile from the entrance to the park. From the outside the house is pretty non-descript. It sits on a five acre lot and has a fenced in backyard. Inside the house you will be stoked by the following features: *Three huge bedrooms, we're still not sure which room is the "master bedroom". One room has a Queen size sleigh bed w/ feather cover and a patio to the backyard. One has the bookcase, and stereo, and wide screen HD TV, and sofa. Upstairs is the (master?) with it's own bathroom, and craftmatic vibrating bed! *New kitchen with black granite counter top, ss gas range, convection toaster oven, dishwasher etc. All- Clad (copper core!) cook wear, lots of stem wear and assorted dishes. *Dogs welcome *Super quiet, and close to the park. For five nights it cost $900.

Looking back, it seems like Sunset Terrace or Rio House might have been a better choice for us. Quail Crossing is described on Moonlight Mesa's website as their "most secluded rental" so I expected some major seclusion but there were quite a few neighbors within a short distance. I suppose it's like saying I am the tallest of the three Asian girls but it still doesn't necessarily mean I'm tall. Get it? Unfortunately, the weather was not very good the two nights we were there. We were only able to enjoy the beautiful outdoor space the first afternoon when we arrived. After that, it rained and was ridiculously windy. When the rain finally cleared up, it was 40 degrees outside so we spent the majority of the weekend indoors. Parts of the house reminded me a little too much of Ikea. However, I do have to say that the house was very well equipped. It had all the condiments and spices you need for cooking, tons of toys for kids, lots of DVDs for entertainment, and all the miscellaneous items you don't realize you need until you do like extra paper to make shopping lists, tape, and even a martini shaker. Each of the bathrooms had hair dryers and flat irons and although you had to bring your own shampoo and conditioner, they provided body wash. Also, Christa was very easy to work with and responsive by email. I would recommend Moonlight Mesa Retreats to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and clean rental in Joshua Tree.

During my stay, I felt less like a guest at a RV resort and more like a contestant on a twisted game show called "What Will Get Stolen Next?" My bathing suit disappeared while I stepped into the shower after using the hot tubs. The towel I had brought into the sauna? Snatched. At this point I started wondering if I should chain my flip-flops to the chairs. What really seals the deal is the reaction from staff: a perfect cocktail of indifference and shoulder shrugs. Concerns about theft are met with the enthusiasm of someone being told their parking meter expired. It's almost impressive how deeply they seem to not care. There is an element of theft at Caliente Springs from their own residents. The blond "I dream of Jeanie" looking resident thief stole an expensive item from the sauna uses the tubs every day. I was told by another resident woman she saw this Barbie doll take my towel. Reported the thieving person and nothing. The staff didn't care and completely enables this behavior of theft.

It's tucked away right along the mountains, so…read moreyou really get that peaceful, western ranch feel, but you're still just a short drive from downtown Palm Springs and everything there is to do. We came with a big group of families and stayed in several of the different casitas throughout the property, which was honestly perfect. We basically had our own little ranch getaway! Each casita had separate bedrooms, a full kitchen and living room, so there was plenty of space for everyone to spread out and feel comfortable. The kids absolutely LOVED all the animals! There are horses, donkeys, goats, rabbits and more, and guests can interact with, pet and sometimes even ride the animals. One morning, the ranch manager took all of our kids around to visit the animals and gave each of them food and carrots to feed them. They had the best time and thought it was the coolest thing! The pool area was probably one of my favorite parts of the property. The pool was the perfect temperature and the setting is gorgeous -- there's a huge natural boulder right alongside it and the mountains are basically your backdrop. There are cabanas for lounging and a long shaded table where our whole group could sit together and eat meals. It was such a pretty, relaxing spot. And then there's the SALOON! Such a fun touch and definitely a hit with our group. It has western-style saloon doors, a bar area, an air-conditioned game room with pool tables, and picnic tables outside. We spent a lot of time hanging out there. There's also a fire pit by the main ranch house where the kids made s'mores at night, which was the perfect way to end the day. This is such a great place for families or groups traveling together who want something different from the typical Palm Springs hotel experience. You really feel like you've escaped to a little mountain/cowboy ranch, while still being close enough to downtown to go out to dinner, shop, or explore. The kids had a blast, the adults got to relax, and having so much of the ranch to ourselves made the whole weekend even more special. Such a hidden gem in Palm Springs!!

You can definitely tell it's been around for a long time and it was very cool to think about all of the different people that have stayed there over the past century. Apparently, it was founded in the early 1900s by a relative of Buffalo Bill. I stayed in a one bedroom suite, and it was nice as shown in my pictures. The room was tastefully appointed and the bed was reasonably comfortable. It had the classic Spanish tile flooring and Adobe walls, along with a southwestern theme. Everything functioned well and the room was cool even though it was hot outside. They also had a small continental breakfast available in the morning that was actually early enough (7 a.m.) to be useful for somebody who has to go out on business. I enjoyed the Greek yogurt and other offerings. The price was fairly reasonable, and I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a unique place to stay that has all of the normal comfort you would expect from a larger hotel. Five stars!
