First time visitor. Went twice (once on a Thursday, then returned Saturday morning) and wow:…read moreThursday was quiet, with good selection but fewer fresh products, and Saturday was VERY busy, with everything stocked plus additional items in refrigerated carry-out and produce. Some items I noticed on Saturday: Pork belly, quail eggs, duck eggs, fresh beansprouts, fresh lemongrass, mint, cilantro, culatro, Thai basil, taro and jicama and purple potatoes, coconut, bok choy and cabbage, pork buns, bags of frozen shredded pork skin, fish cakes, bags of fresh refrigerated Pho noodles, frozen squid and shrimp and various shellfish and cuttlefish, at least a dozen brands of fish sauce (including Red Boat 40°N and MegaChef 30°N), shrimp flavored peanuts, frozen meatballs with tendon, dried shrimp, fresh papaya, frozen durian, fresh dragonfruit......... If the musty scent when you first walk in makes you nervous, don't worry; it fades quickly after you get used to it and, more importantly the foods and refrigerated cases are clean. Very friendly and helpful staff behind the counter, too. Seems like a wonderful place with an impressive selection.

Moving from Miami to rural Ohio has been a real shock to my palate, especially considering my…read moreCuban/Spanish heritage. The variety of restaurants or ethnic food available for purchase at grocery stores is laughably low. So i heard about George's International Market and checked out their website. I was really excited to try it because it gave the impression of being "International" and i love a wide variety of foods. I decided due to this to make the long drive into Fort Wayne to check this place out. My first impression of this place was confusion. Just inside the store you find a statue of a lion holding a shield, a statue of Elvis, and a third statute of Marilyn Monroe in her famous skirt scene. I am unsure what this has to do with a supermarket. I then walked into the actual market and was surprised at how much smaller it looks than in the website. I also discovered as I began exploring that its "international" designation is a bit overstated. It does have food from one or two European countries but its mostly hispanic and really mostly Mexican. Was i a bit disappointed? Yes. That said, i did find a lot of food that my culture also loves in here that overlaps. Firstly, i found actual green plantains! Usually in the supermarkets near my home they sell plantains but they are rarely green. To be able to fry some up and have tostones! Yes!!!!! I also found other products my family and I would love including plantain chips, malta, yuca, tamales, Jamaican patties, and croquettas. The croquettas were of the frozen variety and sadly only in chicken, i prefer ham. I was also very happy when I found Pineapple Nectar for my mom. She loves the stuff and hasn't had any since we moved! So i did end up buying quite a bit when I came here and i will likely come back again. I hope they continue to expand what they have available for sale here, though.
