The restaurant was clean. Staff was friendly on both visits. Prices are very reasonable. We're new to this area of the metroplex. We ate in one day and did to-go the next day. I ordered the Gordita plate - one with pastor, the other with barbacoa. The barbacoa was very good. From what I could tell, they did use the cheek meat. Can't confirm. Pastor wasn't nearly as flavorful as I had hoped for. Used their red salsa to liven it up. Rice was good. Beans were ok. The Gordita itself was very good. Wife orders the taco plate: chicharron, pastor and carnitas. She doesn't normally pour on the salsa, but she was hoping for more flavor. Today, I went back for the menudo. The soup itself was very good. They are very generous with the meat. I've had menudo all over Texas, and this was the first time that it didn't have hominy. It wasn't bad. Just different. Their soup/broth was probably Top 3 in the area. Very generous helping. Overall, we'll be going back. Looking forward to trying their enchiladas verdes and other specials. A non-chain establishment I'd highly recommend. read more

No frills, comfortable little spot with dynamite and authentic Mexican food. Our group of 8 women met here for lunch today. No problem finding a couple of tables to put together for all to eat and visit. Server took our orders and very patiently explained the dishes, over and over again. The food arrived pretty quickly for a group our size, and it was all hot and so delicious! We all got plates that came with rice, beans and fountain drinks included. The fountain drinks are from Oak Cliff Beverage Company, and everything we drank was amazing! We tried lemonade, black cherry, root beer and ginger ale. All were super fresh tasting. The entrees were also delicious. Even the rice and beans, usually an afterthought, were made with care and tasted special. Attention was paid to requests we made, like I asked for no raw onion on my shrimp tacos, so they took it out of the pico de gallo they sprinkle on top! Servings were big and prices were really excellent. There was a line of people coming and going all through the lunch hour, so apparently Pantego people know where the good food is. I think everyone in our group was very pleasantly surprised by the taste and value. I can't wait to return and try something new next time. read more

Pantego has a cluster of restaurants that we are slowly making our way around to try. One of our friends recommended 2 Compas Kitchen while we were dining at a restaurant a few doors down. Compas is a small venue with a casual atmosphere. You walk through an area of seating to reach the order counter. We received attention quickly and were provided with answers to our questions about the menu. After you seat yourself, the items are brought to your table as they are finished. Chips and salsa are a side order to be purchased. The cost of the meal is lowered to accommodate the additional cost. With the meal you receive 2 condiment sauces, tomatillo and a hotter red sauce. We ordered two entrees - Taco Plate consisting of a choice of 3 street tacos. To be simple, I ordered, beef, pulled pork, and chicken. The dish comes with refried beans and rice. The other dish was Flautas, we ordered double rice no beans. There was a steady flow of customers. We enjoyed the meal and would like to return to taste some the other items. read more

Wow! An absolute legit mexican ( not Tex-mex) restaurant. The best I have found to date in DFW. The tacos and sopes in particular are outstanding. Tortas are excellent. Excited to try the huaraches- have not done so to date ( I will!!) I am truly impressed with the asada and pastor. SoCal has a ton of places similar but I have struggled to find that same "sabor" in local food here as it is a very different version. Beans are pretty damn good. read more

They catered a yelp event and boy was it good! Thy had several tacos to choose from and then the toppings to go on them. They are authentic street tacos. the also served some churros that where amazing! They where filled with caramel I think. They where warm and chrispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. SO GOOD. I had eaten here when they were on pioneer Parkway but now they are bit hidden in a strip center between Cajun Corner and Mad Mikes ice cream and Fattoush. That's an impressive row of eating places. Anyway stopped by here for a quick take out. The place was empty as it was mid afternoon. Got a taco plate with a barbacoa, a pastor, and a birria taco, pinto beans and rice. Wife got a couple of barbacoa tacos. She loved them. Mine were fantastic. The barbacoa and birria were similar braised meats, the pork pastor was juicy and flavorful. The beans were great. While waiting for a cantaloupe agua fresca which was fantastic; she even gave me a refill before we left. The tortillas are fresh and great platforms for the tacos. Highly recommended. They have a lot of variety from bistec and pollo rings to liver and lingua. I want to try the tortas, the huaraches, and tortas. read more

It's so nice to have a GOOD Mexican restaurant in this area. The food is so good and made fresh to order. The salsa they serve with the chips is tasty not very spicy, but the two they bring with the food is excellent. The green one is medium heat and the red one is more spicy...yum. Met a friend at 2 Compas & WOW SOOOOOO good!!! I had the flauta platter & a barbacoa sope. The flautas were hot & perfect- I highly recommend you get guac & chips so you can slather some of that guac on each bite! (one of the best guacamoles I ever had at a restaurant & the chips were amazing too- light, crisp, & sprinkled with a spice- maybe paprika.) The sope was perfection as well- VERY flavorful beef & tender. My only minor complaint was the rice & beans- the rice was OK but the beans were pretty bland.
