I sent an email to the listed people on the website (http://www.habanasmokes.com/) inquiring about information posted on the website. I did not get a reply so it made me wonder about the place. I was in Jackson MS about 3 days before I GPS'ed the place and drove over. The shop is located on I55 off the side of the freeway. You can see it from the freeway for sure. I stepped in and a gentlemen at the front cash register said hello. He was pretty engaged in a conversation with what was obviously one of the regulars. Now the good part -- the place is filled with great quality stogies at comparable prices. I would actually say that they are not overpriced from what I have shopped at previously. Brand names include Gurkha, Rocky Patel, CAO, Davidoff, Nubs, Oliva, Fuentes, Romeo and Julieta, Drew Estates -- too many to list but for sure something for everybody. Looking at the $5 menu (it ends at 8pm), I can definitely see why it's a crowd favorite. The restaurant was full, the DJ was playing jams, and the menu options were pretty good. From that $5 menu, we got spinach artichoke dip, which was okay (I think it should be started with chips instead of bread??), and wings which were fire. I got the lemon pepper. They were delicious. That menu also has lemon drops, and for $1 extra, you can get it and then array of different flavors, such as mango, peach, passionfruit, strawberry, etc. I got raspberry at the servers recommendation and it was good. For entrées, my friend got the Cajun pasta, and I loved it. I would order that one again. They also got oxtail, which I didn't try. I got the red fish, and let me tell you it was gigantic! I've never had this, so I was really taking a risk. I found that I don't think I love red fish, as it didn't have the flavor profile I was expecting, however, the sauce on it really brought it to the next level. I got some to go. The greens were extremely salty unfortunately, but the cornbread was really good. I know a lot of people talk about the service and sadly, I did feel the same. It did seem that our server was gone for extended periods of time, and we did wait a while to put in another order for the $5 menu. Initially one of our lemon drops didn't come out either, and we had to ask about it. However, I will say that once we were ready to order entrees, the service did seem to get better. Our server communicated that the kitchen was working on getting out food from the 8 o'clock deadline, and that she would come back and take our order in a bit. I appreciated that communication and didn't mind waiting after. I noticed that within 30 minutes, the restaurant really cleared out, so I'm thinking that a lot of people come for that menu and then leave.. which is surprising because it's a really good looking menu and if I lived in town, I would definitely come back to try more. HOWEVER - I was fortunate enough to find River City Cigars, and Vicksburg hasn't been MORE FUN! The staff is knowledgeable, and the 'regulars' are AWESOME. Great conversation, great people, nice selection. You may not find your favorite (depending on how exotic you get), but I found a few of my other smokes and spent ALL of my free-time there on my last week-long trip (and it was cheaper that 1 night at the casino! ;) ) Even though they officially close at 8pm, sometimes they will have a game on and you can 'hang out' for a while and enjoy your cigar, so you don't feel 'rushed' to get your stick and get out. I observed something here I haven't ever seen before. When folks (regulars?) come in to the shop and are planning on staying, they personally greet and shake hands with everyone in the shop. Then pick out a stick, have a seat and engage. AND, when they leave? They personally say 'goodnight' and shake hands with everyone in the shop. IT'S AMAZING! I have never felt so welcomed as an outsider, ANYWHERE in my adult life. I can't say enough about the friendly folks here, the hospitality is great. The speakeasy bar was decorated really nice with Christmas decorations. This created a nice cozy vibe for a date night or family fun night. The service was fast and we were seated right away.
