I called up David just after the holidays to see if he could clean my carpets before the new year (there is something nice about starting the year with clean carpets!), and he was able to fit me in the next day. He gave me an approximate estimate on the phone, which was pretty much exactly the price he ended up charging... no extra costs added on! The price was absolutely fair for the great work he did! The carpets turned out nicely and dried quickly. David uses organic products, which is important to me since I have a little girl who thinks eating off the floor is the way to go! There was no chemical smell, and the carpets turned out looking fluffy and smelling nice and fresh. David even spent some extra time removing paint stains that I had made when painting my apartment 2 years earlier (I honestly did not think anything could be done about them, but most of them vanished... yay security deposit!), and he propped up a mirror that could not be moved to another room on little styrofoam blocks so it wouldn't get damaged by the dampness. Well, I am sorry I can't share all the excitement. I called on Friday, March 7th at 8:00 AM and left a Message. I left my Name, Phone #, Time of Day, and Message. I needed some Carpet repair and cleaning done since I just got through with some Remodeling. Needless to say, several Rooms needed to be cleaned, Traffic areas taken care of and most of all, some Areas needed to be re-stretched since I added a Wall and had to cut the existing Carpet. Anyways, it is now 2:17 PM on the same Day, and no-one has called me back. How long should I wait? 2 hours? 4 Hours? Over 6 Hours? How long would you wait? The reality is that if you live in your house, care about your stuff and are willing to pay a fair price to get a good job done, all Carpet Cleaners are NOT Created Equally. 1st Choice Green Clean just did an amazing job stretching and cleaning my carpets! Now, I'm spoiled and will never use anyone else. Dave Trager, the owner did: - Exactly what he said he was going to do. - Exactly when he said he was going to do it, and - Exactly for the price that we had agreed to. Dave carefully explained each step of the process and provided us with a clearly written and professional estimate that was broken down so that we could easily pick and choose which services we wanted done. No judgement or pressure tactics when we opted to delay some upholstery cleaning. In addition to using "green" cleaning chemicals (safe for dogs and kids) he used a full set of professional tools and a high powered truck mounted extraction unit which sucked all the excess water out of the carpets. We were walking on them in just a few hours, and that was in February! He used a power stretcher to pull the carpet tight. He carefully inspected the tack strips to make sure that they were properly secured and added support where he could see that they had failed in the past. Sure, I'm always looking for a deal, but the carpet cleaning industry is filled with con-artists, bait and switch tactics and companies that will just take your money then subcontract out the work to some guy in a pick-up truck with a broken down, grocery store rental unit, who soaks your carpets, padding and sub-floors leaving you with a bigger problem than when you started. The horror stories that you hear about carpet cleaners are real! David returned my call within the hour and we set up an in home cleaning estament the following afternoon. I did my research on carpet cleaning in the LB area - calling and interviewing 5-6 of the top rated cleaners in the area on Yelp. I heard the speech every time - "we have the best machines, blah blah. Heard some hard sells, "if I come out, I want to make sure I do the cleaning or otherwise its a waste of my time. Of the short listed three, 1st Choice Green (Dave) was the only one that came out more once (three times actually), inspected and measured the square footage of the place and gave me a written estimate (1st visit). He also did not over promise, suggested he come out again (all on his dime and time) to do a test on the carpet to see if he could actually clean it to my expectations. After the second time coming out to do the test, (and with pretty remarkable results) did I agree to hire him. Dave spent over 3 hrs cleaning for bedrooms - almost 900 sq/ft of space. I was there with him every single minute, driving him crazy with a ton of questions. I observed that to clean carpets well, the cleaner has to be very deliberate and spend time going over the dirty spots in a slow and measured way... I don't believe it can be rushed if you want to get the desired results. Please keep in mind that Dave's rates are NOT the lowest, in fact they were the highest. However, he was by far the most professional, thorough, and deliberate of all the folks I spoke to. I am not one to over pay for products or services, and even though his rates were over 50% more expensive, I do believe he was worth it. Believe me, I never, ever pay the highest price for anything I buy, but in this instance, I was impressed with the overall level of professionalism Dave exhibited throughout. 1st Choice Green Clean (Dave Trager) has cleaned my carpet many times, and he always does an amazing job. About a month ago he came to clean just my entryway which takes the brunt of dirt and grime being tracked in from the outside. My carpet is a light beige and shows the dirt in that area first. Also, since it is the first footfall in the house, it tends to mat down in that area as well. Dave has previously used the truck-mounted steam cleaning method which has always been very effective, and sometimes, necessary. Like, for instance, last year when my dog had several "accidents", Dave used the steam method to remove the odor and sanitize the carpet. Perfect. This time he offered a new "low moisture" process he does now in addition to steam cleaning, which not only cleaned the carpet, but actually lifted the pile back up nearly to its original texture (this is an old carpet), AND - here's the best part - it dried in 20 minutes!! Oh, I've also noticed that the carpet is more resistant to re-soiling with this new technique. Dave said that it would be since this new process leaves a protective coat to prevent re-soiling. Total professionalism! I called on a Friday and left a message that I would like to get my carpet and furniture cleaned. Within an hour, my call was returned by Dave, the owner. Recently had both my home and a 2 bd rental done. Dave recommended the "dry" system. I was initially a bit concerned about "new fangled" stuff - but results were great. He worked a the full day. Carpets and stairs look great - i liked that he got in and "scrubbed" the stairs,,, results were great. Couple of evaluation thoughts: (1) he was very responsive to a number of calls and emails explained the options etc (2) showed up on time as planned (!), (3) Dave did not try to "upsell" me on stuff. Dave had to return to his shop for extra hose and even than just barely making it.
